I love Pride and Prejudice - such a beautiful plot.
I’m actually a big fan of both the BBC series and the new movie with Keira Knightley, although I’m finding that not many people like both. I think it may be because the BBC version did such a good job that people aren’t really that open for other adaptations? I don’t know, that’s the way some of my friends view it.
However, I think the movie version is beautiful – absolutely fantastic cinematography and a wonderful soundtrack. I know it’s hard to follow in Colin Firth’s shoes but I think they did a great job in casting – especially for Mr Bingley teehee…I think it kind of gave the characters a new life.
What do you guys think?

The BBC version is really the only one that I can stand to watch. I think that you're right in saying that no other production can really compare. Once you've seen that, everything else just falls short.

I do like the 1940 version with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier, though. It was the first that I ever saw, and what originally got me hooked on Jane Austen. Not the best, but I believe that they captured the mood of the writing perfectly.

I've only seen the new version with Kiera Knightly... I liked it, but have nothing to compare it to besides the book.

I really really love the new version, and I cannot remember the BBC version very well, as I have not seen it in a very long time. I am pretty sure that I would really like both though, since I love Pride and Prejudice so much that I'm happy to see more versions of it.

i have only seen the new movie version with keira knightley, i love her <3 xDD but i thought it was really pretty movie with the gorgeous scenery and lovely acters & actresses. However, i had to watch the movie a few times to understand all of the things that were happening throughout the story and it the plot moved kind of slowly. I think i've seen pieces of the bbc version ><; i bought the dvd though haha <3

I haven't seen the new one yet, but I am really reluctant to. Colin Firth will forever be the only Mr. Darcy for me, and anyone else is just ... not... right. Ha ha! I'll probably give in and see it at some point, but the BBC version is the romance of my heart.

The only pride and prejudice I liked was the book. I found that both versions of the movie were lacking something that the book had. Its hard to explain but only the book really did it for me.

The one with Keira Knightly has a hot Darcy. Although, I find all men in period costume incredibly attractive. xD

Excluding Mr Collins, though. o.o;

The BBC version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth will forever remain the best in my eyes - I've watched it sooo many times.

I could have enjoyed the movie but I really dont like Keira Knightley

Nothing beats the book, period. But out of the various productions I do have to say (and agree) that the best version yet so far is the 6 hour long BBC version with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. It was best able to grasp the intricate character relations and allowed the plot to move at the proper pace instead of trying to cram it all into a two hour movie with Kira freaking Knightly. Yes, she's pretty but to me she is no Elizabeth Bennett...I maybe buy her as a Jane.

Rock on BBC with your bad self! <33

Yeah, Keira was in no way believable as Elizabeth.
Jennifer Ehle just made the character her own in the BBC version.

I have the book as well, I re-read it every so often ^_^

Oh my gosh I know!! Mr. Darcy was so amazingly gorgeous in the movie with Kiera. she was ok in it, but I'm not a big fan of her acting. She just seems adequate to me. But yeah, I havent seen the BBC version at all. And I tried to read the book, but it seemed a bit boring and drawn-out to me. Which is suprising, since I love to read and I read hecka long books all the time. This book just didnt work for me though.

I love the recent remake of it! The acting is excellent and I have never seen a better Mr. Darcey.
The BBC one is okay but the characters just don't pop the way the do in this more recent film. Even if the tv series was more in depth.

I have seen them both, and I have to admit I am torn. The BBC version is beautiful in every way, but very long, and a bit dreary at times (not sure dreary was the right word, but it's the best I can come up with right now)... The new one has some so-so acting in it and they sorta crammed it too much, but the scenery and music is so fitting, and it really is a joy to the eye.

Both versions have all the amazing qualities, and I don't think I could choose a favourite one, they're both splendid ^^

The BBC version was....amazing. The acting, the sets, everything TT. I dislike all the other versions I've seen T_T.

The book was wonderful too, though! It's rare that I'll find a story where I like both the book AND the movie ^^ <3 <3

  • I actually really like both.
Hot darcy in the movie one helps. xD
Though I won't admit Colin Firth to not be attractive either. :D

Though I also like Bride & Prejudice [don't know if any of you know it].
It's sort of like Pride and Prejudice with a modern [and Indian] flair. Although it's not quite P&P, it's entertaining to watch [and laugh at.] :D

Have yet to see the BBC version or even read the book (I really need to get on THAT.), but I loved the new version Keira Knightley. She is beautiful and has been wonderful in every role I have seen her in and the newest movie version really does have some beautiful scenery and gorgeous music.

One thing that I kind of liked about the BBC version was that everyone wasn't glamorous. I mean, everyone was pretty/attractive, but it wasn't like everyone was too ethereal to connect with. :D

I loooove the book and I reread it all the time, and I just got the BBC DVD for this past christmas because someone recommended it to me. I watched it as soon as I opened it and I really loved it. I've seen it several times since then. I hated the Keira Knightley movie with a passion. XP It doesn't even have the right to call itself Pride and Prejudice to me, it swayed so heavily from the actual mood and point of the book. I just sat in the movie theatre, horrified. XP Maybe my expectations were way too high. I saw it before I saw the BBC series, though, so I thought better of the movie at the time than I do now XD I was like, "Maybe it just isn't possible to make a good movie out of such a great book." Enh. I think the movie was okay by itself, but I'm the kind of person that doesn't like a movie if it strays too far from the book, so that totally ruined the movie for me XP I guess if you've never read the book it's good, or if you don't care it's good.

This is my favorite movie. I love the version with Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen. I actually had never seen the old one but after seeing it, I found that I also liked it. I think that they are both equally good movies and that the actors did a good job portraying their characters. I have read a few chapters of the book but never got around to finishing it. From what I've read, I'd have to say that Jane Austen was an incredible writer and the book was one of the best books I have ever read.
