And I'm sorry for engaging you in a sort-of debate. I understand your predicament now.
I'd say that, if you like something, like it. D: You shouldn't have to worry about whether or not it's what a feminist should like.
The thing I don't get about feminism is that they're trying to force women, often times (Not saying you are, or most are, but many still do) into being like them, or looking a way that they feel many women should look like. Because it's not what men want, or something. I'm not sure. And many of these women say that they are fighting so that women can be free from male oppression and whatever. How? By being oppressed by our own gender?
It just doesn't make sense to me. Though I could be biased. I live in Portland, Oregon. Everyone here is like that, and they get on my nerves. >_>;

Ehh. I do like Lolita. I'm not worrying about whether a feminist should like it so much as worrying about what messages I'm displaying when I put my clothes on, and whether they're internally consistent with my beliefs.
As much as I don't think women should be shunned if they don't follow certain beauty standards, I don't think they should be shunned if they
do either.
I just am not sure of what do do personally, and I guess I'll sort myself out. I do love lolita, and I think, regardless of my beleifs, having a hobby like sewing will be good for me.
It's the first hobby I've been interested in for a long time, and seeing as how I get depressed a lot and I don't have any hobbies, I reckon that's a good reason to keep doing it in and of itself.
Women who try and force women to do things... I can see why they'd do it, I guess it's like a Christian who wants to force non Christians to follow the word of god. They really think if every woman resisteed and subverted the status quo, that patriarchy would be eliminated and then we could all go and make our own free choices.
I think that's a very simplistic view. Not only because I don't see how every woman not shaving will really get rid of patriarchy, but also because it's unfair to assume all women want to give up the things they do, or want to change.
When people say not to dress a certain way because it's not what men want, I'd say because it's not what society wants. but yeah...
(This is my closest argument making lolita okay actually. The one that seems the most internally consistant. Society doesn't like the lolita look, and lolita's aren't aren't a part of 'raunch culture' they're dignified. I like that.)
I think feminists who tell non-feminist women what to do... I don't know if they really 'get it' or maybe they're upset and wish the world would change faster.
I think they are to Feminism, like the guy who tries to force the bible down your throat is to Christianity. >.<
I've only met a few real life feminists, and we never really get to talk about feminism much. I think I know one of the feminists who lives in portland though. Her net name is Sam, and personally, I think she's amazing. ^^
I wonder what it would be like there for a gal like me....
[edit] Awww, Santa Claus is amazing!
