I was reading something about the gas chamber thingy <__< And.. i'm so confused about it. Whhy do you have to be gassed?
Well, I took four years in classes and one and a half of my own studying, but I haven't been focusing on it in a while So I'm pretty rusty ... I need to cram some over the next few weeks so I can get into a decent level class and not have to start all over XD that would be so annoying.

@Tetsumiro: It's training. We have to put on the gas mask in 9 seconds. And the whole MOPP suit gear in 8 minutes. It's the hoodie, pants, boots, and gloves. Except, they don't call it MOPP gear anymore...forgot what they came up with this time. It's just to prepare us if we ever get hit by chemical warfare. *rolls eyes* And I'm guessing to build some tolerance to the CS gas?
We had drill sergeants in the gas chamber back in basic who didn't wear the gas mask. And it was STRONG back then. x_X;;
Hehe, but your Japanese will be awesome after living there for awhile. ;D
My Korean conversation is improving...but...I still struggle with vocabulary. x_X;; I really need to buckle down and study on my own...
@Zephiyr: Hi there!
*laughs* I bet Airborne tends to be more hardcore about...anything compared to us. xD Supposedly the Army requires you to go to the gas chamber once a year. Meh. =_=;; Torture!

It's your NBC gear. And it's dumb. The only thing you are supposed to do if you do get gassed of some sort in war is out on your mask and run downwind. The filters on the mask only last so long and lots of gasses eat thru them. A waste of money I say. Drill sergeants were hardcore, but they did it all the time so they had a tollerance to it. I myself don't want a tollerance. lol
When I was in korea we had to do the chamber twice a year. We would run in the chamber before it started and go to the back, staying in there as long as possible just for fun. Dumb I know. We were bored. Had to make it fun somehow.
Yes, everything is "hardcore." My CO is a douchebag who used to be infantry but now he's medical (weird) and wants us all to be to that insane standard... we're not dudes. We just don't do those kinda things. I don't think it's that bad though, I just don't want to be airassault or airborne. I think it's dumb. It's bad for your knees and back and the people running the classes are like gods in their own worlds. Whatever!!!
I'm a medic. You get hurt, I save your life. Ariborne or air assault isn't going to make me save soemone better >.>

Where were you stationed in Korea? I'm in Area IV right now. I was supposed to be at Camp Casey, but they changed my orders in my last day at 1RC. And I'm a medic too. xD How long have you been in?
What I don't get is...what is it about Air Assault and Airborne that makes those people...crazy?

I was in area... uh.. 3. Camp Humphreys. Area 4 was really nice when we went down there. I've been in 3 years now. Spent 2 there. Don't let them trick you into AIPing if they still have that option. They might not be doing it anymore. I'd do my one year and get out. O_o
What is it that makes them like that... hmm... the people running it are experts in their field and they can do whatever they want, so they do. I think the best part of korea was the pt, only 1 hour. lol. I was such a shammer. Stretch for 15 do pt and cool down stretch for 15. lol.
I did the EFMB in korea. You should go if you get the chance. It's really good. I hated it while I was there but I got it, so I'll make all my soldiers go when we are actually in country for one of the cycles O_o

*coughs* Well, I submitted my AIP paperwork, but for some reason it's just sitting around doing nothing. >_>;; I would love for them to just say YES OR NO...so I can plan my leave and try to see if I get to work with them on getting a good duty station.
I personally really like Korea. The food, the prices, the places. I never get time to travel though. :/ Not with twelve hour shifts and them constantly changing their minds on whether or not we can actually HAVE an off day. I dislike my unit. I stress dislike. The clinic's providers are amazing. The NCOs bite. Now that a certain medic has PCS'd, my coworkers are awesome.
Our PT is from 0530 till 0610 because we have to be at the clinic at 0700 to relieve the night medics. Whenever the first sergeant talks, we usually end up with fifteen minutes of "PT." And they questioned why most of the company kept bombing the PT test...
WOW! Congrats on getting the EFMB! I'm personally...not ambitious enough....to want it...<_<;; They're definitely sending all of us though. >_>;;

@Tori: Whoops <__< I'm so slow tonight.
Anyway. that's... strange o3o I understand now though! I didn't know they did that, because the only connection my brain makes to gas chambers is from the Holocaust. x__x;
I'm sure it will xD but I don't want to have to take a lower level class just because I'm a slacker. Once I reviewed it, I would get so bored again D: I'm looking forward to being able to be there though XD
Hopefully eventually I'll be able to afford to visit you.. XD I don't think I will be able to this first Semester though. MAYBE if I can get a job, but I really don't know D: *SIGH*
We'll see, right? hehe!
I want to learn Korean D: They have a class there, I might take it.
I was learning Chinese this year. I must say I'm not too bad at it XD though I'm sure people would die laughing when I speak. I should probably stick to just writing :'D hahahahaahaha

I was forced to go too. I was a PFC. Do you know what I missed out on!? A free concert of puddle of mudd and saliva. I couldn't even bomb it and purposely fail in time to get out and get to the concert. So I stayed and grumbled the whole time. There was only two others from my unit that made it. An LT and a SSG. It was ok. My plt sgt sent me because he got sent. So I'm going to do the same to my soldiers :P
Korea would have been ok if I were single. But I wasn't, I had a long distance relationship and I spent most of my time on the computer. I went on leave 4 times and every time was back to the US. I had never been closer to australia but I still didn't go. There is a lot of... stupidness in korea. Everyone does whatever they want and there is no real SOP. Are you in 65th med brigade? That's the last one I was in. It was 52nd and then 75th and then 65th. So much wasted time there. I did get adopted by a nice korean family though. And I miss teh Katusas. They were so funny and cool <3
My unit was a field unit, but we would rotate out to the clinic. 12 hour shifts were the shiznit compared to being in the field for a month for stupid stuff! Enjoy it. Of course... you don't get holidays or half days either... sucks but.. there is nothing perfect over there. Watch out for the creeper NCO's that try to take advantage of the new people. Arses.
I could go on and on about that place....
Is it your first duty station?

@Tetsumiro: I didn't know what to expect when I went to basic. Back then, it was an actual brick building or something. (Recalling things while half awake isn't good. xD)Here, it was a...I guess I can compare it to a trailer. xD Most people were freaked out by the gas chamber....I think I handled it alright. I just can't stand two things: the BURNING sensation and the mask itself. I think I hyperventilate when I wear the darn thing...
I know what you mean. =_= When I took certain courses, I would tune it out if it was something I've already done. Like all the introductory classes...
D: Well, if my extension goes through, then I'll be here for your second semester. If not...then I'm leaving Korea in April...*hugs*
But oo! Take Korean! I promise, it's easy. xD I struggle with learning foreign languages, but so far...I'm doing okay. ;D I wish they all came to me easy like they do for you!
@Zephiyr: D: Aw man! They timed that concert poorly...
Our company supposedly sends all junior enlisted and KATUSAs...The funny thing is, all of them failed...oh gosh, which one was it...I think the first trauma lane?
I'm single...but I spend pretty much all my time on the computer. xD I just...don't enjoy the thought of partying and drinking every weekend/holiday. Not that I even get many of those. ^^; Plus, I'd rather talk to family and friends...draw...be on Mene...I just can't relate to young soldiers nowadays. I'm their age, but still. >_>;;
And I know what you mean. People keep breaking regulations, they make up stuff and just overall...annoying me. =_=;; *nods* And I'm in 65th Med Brigade.
The very first day I came to Korea, the NCO of the barracks was hitting on me. Found out a couple months later he was getting discharged for that kind of behavior after two complaints. The guy had his wife and daughter here too! *shakes head*
Yup, my first. Some of the NCOs keep telling us not to judge the Army based on our experiences here. *rolls eyes* I just can't see how it can get better....
Where are you stationed now?

Wow... I'd watch out for a guy named Moreno, previously sgt. That guy.. is nothing but trouble. Got in troubel for lots of stuff in area 3 and got sent down to area 4, don't know if he's still there but he's evil.
I'm in Fort Campbell now. It's ok. Better in ways. Deploying in Feb. Can't wait to get that overwith and get back. I'm going to Afghanistan and hubby to Iraq so yeah... that part sucks about the Army. And don't judge it by korea. I love my job, I hate the idiocity that goes with having dumb leaders.
Did you know an LT Gonzalez? She left from area 4 I think.

OMG. Like.. push him in front of an FLA or something. He is dirt. Like worse than the devil. A lot of people wished that he would roll over and die or something. He is just that bad. I can't believe he is still there. I can't tell you how bad he was... he drugged people and took advantage of them. People in my unit. Wow... I hate him, for them. He'd even try stuff with me, his short stupid self. Ugh! That makes em angry.
I'll be in afghanistan for a year starting in Feb. Out on some little FOB with the infantry. It should eb fun except for the cold! lol Too bad you didn't knwo her. She's awesome :heart:

D: *cry* You might be leaving in April?? Do you know where you might be going from Korea? If you leave, I won't have a good excuse for spending a few hundred dollars on going to Korea! XD ahahhahaha
I actually have to return to the US in April xD; hahaha. That's going to be my summer break before I get back over there in August.
Sheesh I'm so tired tonight and I dont' know why *complain* I slept a lot o_O;
I hate taking basics (and retaking them) xD Chinese was fun, I plan on taking the basics over again when I get there, because our course was cut shorter due to too many people not studying hard enough =__= that class drove me insane!
I want to take Korean, I wonder how many language classes I can take at once.. XD! hahhahaha The writing intimidates me a little (though not as much as Thai O_O; ) because it's a bit different than the Chinese/Japanese scripts.

@Zephiyr: OH GOD. That's sick! I can't believe him! That explains why he was so aggressive about going downtown and drinking. Then every time he saw me he was like, "You lied! You said we were going to go!" And to think the Army kept him after doing all that? I'm pretty sure my last roommate said he's been discharged. Because I was wondering why he wasn't our barracks NCO anymore. She told me he got in trouble for sneaking into people's rooms. Even when they were in there.
Wow, a year! Good luck to you. Most of my battles from BCT and AIT are in or coming back from Iraq. Starting next month, a ton are headed for Afghanistan. o_o Just wondering what their experiences will be like since I'm sure they'll send me there soon...
Was she a nurse?
@Tetsumiro: Nope, no idea. I want them to either accept or decline my extension already. Just so I can start planning. :/ Swing by home, travel a bit, SOMETHING!
They cut the course short? O_o;; Wha? They can do that?
The writing is actually easy. It's just lines, boxes, and circles. xD And you put them together like puzzle pieces to make the sounds. I'm far too intimidated by Chinese characters in comparison. xD

I'm glad that you never got tangled up with that creep. He was the worst creeper ever. OMG. My husband wanted to hurt him so bad for the crap that he tried to pull. I hope that he's out. He doesn't deserve anything. So, watch out for guys like him! There are so many there. Korea is a breeding ground for them I think.
Anyway, I'm going to head to the showers and then to bed ^^ Have a good one. I'll be back later :P Probably tomorrow for me, might still be the saem day for you... hehehe... :P Peace!

@Tori: XD Of course you don't know yet. Darn them!
well, not like, we didn't have class, but the instructor decided that instead of trying to get to lesson ten, she would spend more time teaching everyone each lesson and we would only go to lesson seven. u__U It made me sad. I can carry out a very boring conversation in Chinese now though :'D hahhahhaahhaha I need to improve my vocabulary. We didn't learn that much >_< It was just too hard for everyone else I guess o3o; that and too many people just weren't paying attention. They thought Chinese would be easy =__=;
Well, I mean xD what makes Korean writing intimidating to me is the fact they all look fairly similar to me--where as Chinese characters are all usually quite different xD

I can't stand how they wait till the last minute on all these things. I like knowing things ahead of time so I can prepare! Not SCRAMBLE. *makes a face*
Ohhh, I see. That pretty much happened in my Spanish class too. Others weren't getting it, so I just completed the work on my own and chilled.
xD It works well with how simple my mind is. Just by looking at this, you can see how they piece the characters together: http://www.learn-korean.net/learn-ko...article-5.html Reading it is fairly easy. Actually knowing what any of it means is another chore...

Wrap kitty in a blanket and smuggle it in! 8D
@Tetsumiro: And you said you got a lot of rest. o_o *shoos you outside for some fresh air?* xD
The only ones that frustrate me are some of the vowels are kind of close. Like the eh in air confuses me with the eh in bear. *coughs, couldn't think of other examples* ^^;;
