Yeah, I'm an illustrator/conceptual and graphic design artist. I work at a small studio downtown and from home. =P Deadlines are killer though.

I haven't really been drawing a lot. -___- I've got a lot of manga ideas swimming around in my head that I need to draw out at some point though.

LoL, am I really that uncommon or something? I do children books and conceptual work for small time game and animation businesses. The graphic design stuff I just do on the side to get extra money, I hate that kind of work though... xP

Thanks, the children books are alright work. I tend to pick up those jobs because most of my clients like my watercolor work and want illustrations I do in that media for their stories. I really do like working in watercolor just because it's faster for me and I get paid a ton for something that's easy for me. I'm actually trying to get with a bigger gaming studio right now, they asked me for seven new digital paintings just to see how fast and how good they come out to be, which is why I have work to do right now... xP But out of everything I love being a creature conceptual artist which is why I'm going with gaming. :)

How does the conception process work? Do they give you a general idea of what they want and you draw it out for them? ^^

I LOVE watercolor. I've been practicing with it lately and I can't wait to get time in my schedule to take a watercolor class. I want to get better.
over the summer my dad told me that if I wanted money I needed to find some way to convince Taco Bell to hire me or start selling my art so I've been trying to get better so that I can.

I worked with a small studio that was going to make something for aniboom but that fell through, I still got paid though. I'm currently going in on a project with atomic boogaloo, and the bigger game studio I'm talking with is Sony Online Entertainment. The conceptual process is your employer giving you ideas for the project and then you make a billion (more like maybe 20) rough sketched out ideas. Then your supervisor (art director or senior art director) approves the ones they want. Then you make model sheets of those for the 3D designers (if it's for games or animation). For books you make roughs for the illustrations, author tells you what to fix, you show them the revisions, they approve, then you make the final illustration, goes to layouts for print. I think I summed everything up in a nutshell there... xD

That sounds like an awesome line of work Usagi....fascinating.
