I'm glad it exists, especially when signatures have character limits.
Example:
http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x...a/SMbutton.jpg (69 characters)
becomes
http://tinyurl.com/yuvf63 (25 characters)
The way yanyan's link works, is that her image's tinyurl ends with the filename and .jpg. It seems that the "[img]" tags do not accept a tinyurl unless it ends in an image extension - like .jpg.
If you take yanyan's link code and change her URLs with mine, it should result in an image showing up. You can click the image to go to my quest thread. However, it doesn't, as shown in the above post.
The reason why I am so adamant to use tinyurls instead of Photobucket and Menewsha URLs is because regular URLs make the page stretch when showing them in a "[code]" box. You can avoid stretching the page using regular URLS if you put a space and tell users to remove the space when linking you, but you still end up using a lot of characters. If you use the "regular" coding in your signature, it is a lot of text.
Using tinyurls, you cut down on the characters significantly, whether it be for your signature, or in a "[code]" box. With the URLs in the "[code]" box being shorter, you end up having less to copy/paste - it is supposed to make things easier for whomever wants to use that link.
EDIT: Oh jeeze, I took so long to type this - I didn't realize you posted, yanyan. THANK YOU so very much for the lesson - I know what I did wrong now.
To try and explain what I did wrong: I took the entire image's address and put it into tinyurl. At the end of the tinyurl, I attached the filename and extension (being "SMbutton.jpg"). So, the tinyurl already pointed to that image, but adding the SMbutton.jpg just nullified/pointed the url to nowhere. I hope that made sense. Even if it didn't - I know where I went wrong, and now know what to do. ^___^
Also, yes, you certainly can use that image - just make sure to save it; I don't want the 1337ness to get lost! I actually took that image specifically with the intention of giving it to you so you could use it. XD So, enjoy and thank you again! Now I must fix my mistake!
