I haven't had mine yet and I'm 14 years old.
Is this a problem?

Have you had yours yet?

If so when did you have yours?

Does your dad talk bout it.

Does your dad freak out about it?

I don't think its a problem. My mom and aunt didn't have theirs till 17. I won't say if I've had mine or not yet, but...
I think most parents will freak out about it. Telling you this and that. To be careful because if you get raped you have a chance at having a baby. But you won't have to worry alot about that. I think parents will tell girls that though. Sadly, I think they will.

It's like an unwritten law. Freak when you child changes.

  • I got mine at 12 years.
    Everyone goes through puberty a little differently though, so don't be too worried. Periods are a pain sometimes anyways. xD It can be influenced through your diet though.
    My dad never talked about my period. I've asked him to buy me some tampons before though [usually as a joke, but twice it was for real] and he said "NO!" right away. One of those two times that it was for real though, he actually did go to the store to get me some. It was nice. He even got me the same brand and size I hadn't mentioned to him previously...and I doubt he even checked. xD

I'm moving this to life issues, it's better suited for that forum..

14 is a pretty average age for them to appear i'd say, i wouldn't worry that they haven't arrived yet, they're nothing but a pain anyway..quite literally :?

According to "kidshealth".
Quote:
Some girls start puberty at age 8, and others may start as late as age 14 or 15. Each girl goes at her own pace. So don't think you're weird if you start puberty a little earlier or a little later than your friends.

I started puberty around nine, and got my first period a few months before I entered the sixth grade. Which means I got it around eleven. Luckily, my mom talked to me about it about a month or two prior to it. Plus, I had some informative books.

It's not much of a problem. Your body just develops at its own pace, that's all.

Mine started when I was about 11...Hm, my dad doesn't talk about it, but it won't really matter if he does because he's an ex-doctor. xD Occasionally my mom would talk about it and see if things are going the correct way, like if I have it normally every month, ect.

I'm fortunate in the fact that my gender doesn't experience such a thing, so I cannot really add in that much of an input from your side of the issue.

However, it does seem to be a touchy subject for males as well. Especially for those who have girlfriends who happen to be going through their periods...*shivers* the pain...the unbearable pain...

And by that last bit, I meant pain on us...by YOU girls as you beat the tar out of your loved ones and are able to get away with it scot-free. T_T;

Puberty doesn't necessarily inflict pain on the body, though adolescent humans can go through growth spurts which can cause muscle and bone pain, however, it tends to be temporary.

The female's menstrual period...well, if I may have one of our Ladies here give an accurate report on what it is...I know, but I don't feel as though it is my place. ^^

  • I got mine when I was 11-12? U:

    Puberty usually happens around 13-14, probably. But it's not problem if it comes late. I think it's actually normal. I know some people who had it around 16-17, so don't worry about it at all. My dad doesn't talk about it -- but he keeps track of it (lol). My dad doesn't freak out about it either. I don't see a need to freak out about a natural occurance in women. A random fact; I know of someone who got it around 8-9. XD;;

WHY do people WANT to get their periods?! I can NEVER understand this. Rejoice that you don't have yours yet! You're the lucky one who doesn't have to deal with the pain (yet). Really, though, if you're worried- ask your doctor. They should know you well enough (unless you recently changed doctors) to tell you if it's normal or something that should be looked into.

Cramps... hurt like hell for some people. For others, they practically don't exist. And then for us lucky few, we get both. You better hope that your period comes regularly, unlike mine that seems to be on a three month cycle. One- normal. Two- 15 ish days late. Three- doesn't come at all. But it's more random than that. And it only hurts a little bit when it's late, doesn't hurt when it doesn't come and KILLS when it's on time. Grrrr.

My mother is always asking me if I need 'supplies.' I'm old enough now that I just go buy them myself if I need them. So it's a little awkward when she's asking me in front of my little brother and father. =\

Silver; Maybe because they feel that they've grown up and has become more..mature in development of the body? xD Or maybe because they feel that they are one step closer to being a woman. =]

I don't have much cramps though, but when I do, they hurt...a lot. D;

Nope, you're just a late bloomer. :]

Have you had yours yet?
-nods- Mhmm.

If so when did you have yours?
12 or 11...can't remember. ^^;

Does your dad talk bout it.
Noooooo. My mom does though. xD;;

Does your dad freak out about it?
Not really. He's just like "o.O" whenever my mom talks about it.

I first started when I was 16-17 (can't really remember exactly) and then.. It stopped again when I was 19. I just started getting it again a little over a year ago.

I was severely underweight which delayed it and then my anorexia stopped it altogether.

Usually it's delayed for people who are underweight.

The average age for when girls start having their periods is 12, but girls can start having them 11 to 16, but some start later or earlier than that. There are different factors that can effect when you start having them, such as diet, stress, and, according to Wikipedia, even family life (which I doubt).

I myself started at eleven.

Don't freak out. Rather, be slightly glad that you don't have to deal with the blood, cramps, PMS, etc. But, if you're really that worried, you can see a doctor, perhaps a female one, so you can feel comfortable talking about this sort of thing. XD

As for my dad, I don't talk to him about it. I don't even live with him. XD

  • Is this a problem?
    Nope, some girls don't have their period until they're 18. Or even after that. But then I would suggest going to a doctor. C:
    But anywhore, you not having your period yet is really normal.

    Have you had yours yet?
    Pitiful enough, yes. Right now. D;

    If so when did you have yours?
    Er.. gee. Somewhere in August when I wasss.. -thinks- Hm.
    11? Yeah, it was in the last week of summer vacation. I already noticed this weird smell hanging around. So when I went to the bathroom I screamed "MOOOM! I'M HAVING MY FIRST PERIOD!".
    Then the neighbors screamed: "Congratulations."
    = o =;;

    Does your dad talk about it.
    Sure, he likes to joke about it. Then I hit him. C:

    Does your dad freak out about it?
    Nope. (maybe he will when I push some of my tampons in his nose.. hmm)

Hmmm... I got mine when I was 12... But I have an aunt that didn't have her's until she was 15... I think any time between 11 and 16 is all right... but if you're worried about it you could ask your parents to get you an appointment to see a gynocologist.

And as for the dad thing... I never mentioned it to my dad... I guess he probably asumes since I'm 19 that I have had some visits from aunt flow.. :lol:

Its not a problem!
Are you really thin though? If your BMI is under...13 I think... your body can't start the ovulation process, being underweight is equivalent to an immature body. But seriously, you'd have to have like 1% body fat. And thats not healthy -_-
If you're not that thin, then you're just a late bloomer. But not really late late. If you don't have it within the next year or so, then I'd probably ask your doctor. Its probably not serious, but you could also just not be eating right, or enough.
Me, I got mine a week before my 12th birthday, but I've always been a big girl, and my mom got hers younger too.
That could also be another factor. Ask your mom when she got hers! And then ask if she knows when your grandmother got hers. Ages for periods tend to be genetic.

I probably wasn't much help.
Anywho, best of luck!

No, it's not a problem at all. Everyone gets her period at different times. I got mine when I was twelve, but I know a girl who didn't start until last year, when she was fourteen.

And no, my dad doesn't talk about it at all. We tend to avoid talking about things like that.

I got mine at 12. My friend got hers at 14... I think 16 is the time when you should get worried.

Besides... having period is... frustrating...

  • You are just a late, that's all. I know a girl who started at the age of fifteen.

    I think you both are very very lucky, I started mine just a few months after turning eleven when in fourth grade. I had never been told what a period was so I screamed and cried running to my ma. She laughed at me. I got my period on December 25th, 2000. What a great day to get it. My ma says it's mother nature's 2000 xmas gift to me. What complete joy.

    And to be honest my father had no clue I had my period for three years. It's funny really. We never talk about it, but when he does bring it up he jokes like ccrazy about it. I guess since he's the only male int he house since my brother died. My cats and dog are even chicks. Haha. So I guess he doesn't freak out...

Not htat I can add a whole lot, but one of my friends didn't get hers till almost 19. Although that is getting really late; but she was very underweight, and her dr told her as much when she got checked.

As for dads--I think it's the whole idea of their little girl growing up--they have obviously had moms and girlfriends, so should at least be comfortable enough with it to help out if you really needed it. Mine pretty much ignores mine except fo rthe fact that we go through more toilet paper that week :? (I live with my dad, uncle and brother--not exactlly big users of the stuff on a regular basis).

And cramps--it's different for everyone. I used to get horrible cramps then I stopped for a number of years. Now I get them again, but they are usually bearable except for every few months or so.

i havent had mine yet, the range is 9-18 but the range for most ppl is 12-14, but still, dont be in a rush 2 get it! I havent gotten mine, and im glad! But have u showed other signs of puberty (im NOT going 2 be specific, u know what i mean!) cuz if u show no other sign, that MIGHT be worth going 2 a doctor for. And NO i will NEVER talk about it w/ my dad. when i was 6 i asked him what a tampon was (i heard it somewhere, i forget where) he almost went into cardiac arrest.

I got mine when I was 12, but a friend of mine got hers at 16. The age tends to vary.

My dad tries his hardest to avoid the subject, though... I started when I was stuck at his house during the summer with Mom out of town... I never told him, though. I walked to the store and bought my own stuff. He just assumed by the time I was 15 that I'd had it already.

He's only been in the store with me once when I had to buy them, and that was only because I was desperate. He called them 'sanitary napkins' and I wanted to laugh. Poor guy was so awkward.
