I was talking to a friend today about some sort of nonsense about these items, and this thought ran accross my head. While those v-day items are so beautiful and gorgeous, it seems next to impossible to afford.

When I first came to this site, I was naturely drawn to these items of course, but they were too expensive even then (March) for me to even dream of getting. While I hate to make comparisons, at least on Gaia every item seemed like it was possible to have(at the time I joined), but these items ALREADY are next to impossible to get? And six of them at that?

Of course, I have put away any nonsense of ever actually owning any of these items long ago.

However, I find that so many of our offsite trader problems stems from these very items! So I have to think, what would Menewsha be like without these items?

So my friends, what do you think?
What is your stance on these items?
Do you think perhaps they induce so much greed?
What would an Menewshan world be without them?

Please talk about any other things about the v-day items, and their rarity.

Edit:

I also want to point out something that is being repeatedly addressed:

I know for a fact that there are plenty of crowns around, because so many hoarded them for future money. As for the St. Patty items, their scale would be greater sure, but not to the OBSCENE extent as these items.

It has been guesstimated that how many sets exist on the site? Perhaps 250 or so. Counting all the hoarders and those who are banned, that doesn't leave many for the people - in March there were a GREAT many more people to buy crowns and St. Patty items, so supply and demand suggests that the obscene prices on the v-day items is well warranted.

Especially because our numbers do keep growing. The offsiters wouldn't be as bad if the need wasn't that bad.
Keep this in mind before you post. ^^ <3

They're like a beautiful dream to me, there's no way on earth i will EVER be able to afford even one V-Day item. but i've come to terms with that.
I'm just hoping that next year's will be just as gorgeous..

Exactly. It isn't as if Valentine's Day is a magical holiday that only appears once in our lifetime. We'll see gorgeous items again. They're not going to be exactly the same, but we wouldn't want them to be.

I don't really understand all the attraction to the Valentine's items. The only one I would even consider buying is the belt, but there are other ways to fill in that gap on my avie. The Pirate belt is just one, so it isn't as if the item is irreplaceable. It seems to be more the prestige of owning a Valentine's item that people are after.

  • I have thrown the thoughts of getting one long ago as well. I can barely make 1k in a week so it is way impossible for me to get any of them. I wish next year would be just as good! And I thought the crowns would rise higher before the Pins! ='O

I was very lucky to be given a boa when I joined here.
I was doubly lucky to have Azure want my boa for part of a trade for this sash.
It is the item I've most wanted since joining Menewsha.

What is your stance on these items? I like the v-day items (mostly) and I would love to have at least one but unless I win that lotto in the exchange then I probably will never get one.

Do you think perhaps they induce so much greed? No. It's not the items themselves, it's the person behind them.

What would an Menewshan world be without them? The same as it is now....except the crowns or some other item would be in their place.

You can't have inflation not exist...yes at times on sites like these, it seems to get out of control but these v-day items are not that hard to get right now still. Not to compare to another site BUT look at inflation in other online worlds...we're lucky to be here while it's still low and obtainable.

I like the belt and the pendant the best, the sash is lovely too but it's a bit like the angelic sash on Gaia, it covers a lot of your clothing and really looks better over underwear. the boa is weird, the lovelypop is lovely! but it's a lot of money for a simple handheld item as opposed to an item you can wear..
oh i forgot the hairpin, that's awfully glam! i do like that too.
But it is the belt and the pendant that i moan about never owning the most..
but it's never about prestige for me, they're just very pretty items :)

It's kind of ridiculous about how so many people are selling them off-site, or trading other things off-site to get them, and I think it's quite unfair for us who are poor and can't afford them. They are some of the reason why the items are getting so expensive, because they ask for high prices and they end up getting banned and locking the items up on their accounts. :?

I like all but the lovelipop, really. @[email protected] xD

I like all of the Valentine's Day items, but by the time I joined Menewsha, they were already so expensive and hard to find that I decided to quest for other items first, such as the crowns. Now, of course, the items are even more out of reach. There are a bit more people selling them in the exchange, but the prices are so high that I doubt I'll ever be able to get one. Also, now that Descender has been taken down, my gold income is even slower than ever.

I think the Valentine's Day items were released too soon, since there were so few users on Menewsha at the time, and it was only one set per account. It was bad timing that Menewsha started in January, and not many people had heard about the site by the time Valentine's Day came around. None of the event items after the V-day ones will ever be even nearly as rare, since there were so many more users on the site.

It's a dream to get at least one Valentine item...but true, it is nearly impossible, unless some really generous person donates. D: I think maybe Menewsha would actually be better without them.. many people love those items because they're so beautiful, but many can't even afford them. And if there are sellers, they usually auction them off and everytime they get super high offers that start inflations...not very good is it?

What is your stance on these items?
I really think that despite how pretty they are, they are overrated. They cost a ridiculous amount of gold, and even though they're rare and from an old event, people value them solely for the prestige they'll get for having it. Though, I have no intent on ever getting them, as I don't really think that they'd look pretty on any outfit that I would design.

Do you think perhaps they induce so much greed?
Indirectly. They inspire people to become greedy, and those people will sell pixels for real money, or they'll hoard them in hopes of becoming Menewsha's richest person. The one with the most pixels wins. Though they also inspire hope into others that they can get the items.

What would a Menewshan world be without them?
There would still be ridiculously priced items. Without Valentine items, the crowns would probably be at ridiculous prices. The Valentine items are good yet bad at the same time, I guess.

  • Actually, it's really only the VPin and maybe the sashes and boas that are unattainable.

The others, with time, patience, and safe and calculated (so as to not be extreme) hoarding, you WILL be able to obtain because they are traded more often.

    I think they're beautiful, and I adore them. <3
    But the offsite trades make me even more frustrated because every time one is purged, more Vday items are lost. ;-;

    My stand, though?
Leave them be. I hope to obtain my VPin and my Boa, and that would satisfy me because the others are beautiful as well, but not quest-worthy in my opinion. xD

And, like Jelly, I do wish we continue to have beautiful items in the future. <3

If we didn't have V-day items, the St. Patty items and crowns would be the focus of off site traders.

Personally I love most of the items, epesically the belt and pendent. It is too bad that people are greedy enough to sell them off site and for so much gold, especially with how the gold system is here. Part of that could be fixed if people didn't actually buy them at such high prices to begin with,t hen again they aren't the easiest things to come by.

You have to keep in mind that there was less than 300 people participating on the site at that time. We have more than 7000 users now.

Add onto the fact that scammers were the ones who ended up hoarding the majority, and there's your reason. :c

They're pretty, I'll say that much, but I haven't particularly found them completely awesome as I know a lot of people view them as. But then again, I really hate the colour red, so I wouldn't get those items anyways, even if they were cheap. xD I've found that I'm much more interested in getting the Easter set than anything else here, which is nice because at least they're still pretty affordable. I just hope that I can still get a bunny hairpin for a decent deal after I finish up my current quest, but I swear I won't get it until I'm done with what I'm questing for right now, honest! xD

I have to disagree with people who say people who vye for V-Day items are doing it only for the prestige. Granted, I'm sure that's motivation for some people, but for many more, they just think the items are gorgeous and really love them. I know I'm a collector of all (I have that attitude on other sites I play on as well), but at the same time, there are a few of the V-Day items that really rank up there as my favorites among all the Menewshan pixels, both commons and rares. I do wish that people would be willing to spread the love to others if they had multiple items to their name, without demanding the high payments. It'd be nice if they donated or at least offered them for a fraction of the price. But unfortunately, on sites like this, gold is an important thing if you want goods (pixels) or services (art and whatnot), so people do what they must. And I admit, I understand that completely. I know it'd be hard to have an extra V-Day item and generously just give it to someone when you could get 50k out of it or something.

Do the items fuel greed? I think they have the potential to, as do any of the other rares - mainly the St. Patty's items and the crowns. When things like this become so valuable in these virtual economies, having them - having multiples too - can be a very valuable asset. So that's where the offsite trading and selling comes in.

What would Mene be like without them? I'd say probably the same. There are several other awesome items that have come out that I think are pretty comparable in beauty to the V-Day items. Like others have mentioned, there'd probably be more of an emphasis on the crowns and St. Patty's stuff, but at the same time, it would't be so crazy high due to the fact that more were obtained and are in circulation.

I just think it's unfortunate so many of the V-Day items are locked away in banned accounts. I do wish there were a solution for releasing them into circulation somehow.

How about they just use the same ones next year.

I mean this site is about the community and not the items that's what I hear. No one should be mad if that's the case let's just have a massive re-release next V-Day.

While, yes, like you, I love the items. Aside from 3 of them, 2 which I already sold, I adore the items and will never be taking them off. I count my blessings that I was here for the event. I could not imagine being these newer folk, and seeing these gorgoeus items that I could never sell.

When I did sell, the Boa and Sash, I tried finding people who wanted them. And Under sold, because I wanted the items to go to people who would wear them when i did. They went to Orange and one of Valendia's friends. I'm glad I sold them to people who love.

I really do not regert it, even with how much both of those have gone up in value, I'm just glad I got them to people who wanted them and would wear them at the time.

That said, it does suck. It's like the newbie's who join Gaia and want a Halo, and then get sticker shock. The V-day Hairpin is Mene's Halo's Something so few have, and will be a defining mark of the Oldbies versus's the Newbie's.

The problem is people will be mad.
There will be those who are pissed about all the off site trading, even worse, the people who saved and scouraged even last bit of gold since getting here, only to have it shoved in there face later that they did not have to do that and here's a new set, just like the one you wasted months to get.

While, I really do not mind and not really care, I will feel bad for those who felt like they waste so much time and effort, only to get them all again, and take down the value of what they so desperately worked hard for.

But people say all the time this site isn't about the items and getting rich so no one should be mad and upset if they come out again, just like if any previous items come out again as well.

Unless that's not true which everyone knows it isn't! ^ 3^

  • I would love any piece of that set, its something I've wanted wanted since joining, but like others have thought to just give up on. I join all the lottos possible for a slight hope of getting one but eh, haha don't think that'll ever happen. My favorite is the belt, easy to use and i've always liked it.
