I've never been hacked, and I don't know anyone who has been. I'm really careful about entering my login info, but some of those fake login pages can be really good, so you never know. I think it's stupid that people will do those type of things for fake money and pixels. The work that they put into these hacking techniques is silly, if they put that work into doing stuff around a site they could probably earn just as much gold.

I think i'm too dumb to be hacked. I'd probably forget my password and write the wrong one...
Hey, that gives me an idea. Everytime you log onto a website with any sort off username or password, first, write a fake password, then when it says it's wrong, put in the right password. It sounds harder, but at least you can be 100% sure.

Ugh, I know the feeling. A few months ago the same thing happened to me only I lost about a million gold worth of items. It also was a legitimate looking request to vote in the arena and I was also redirected to a legitimate looking page. I would have taken more care to notice had I not been tired and checked the tab while doing other things. I simply assumed that Gaia logged me out like it occasionally does and then fell for the scam. =/ Lesson learned.
They're definitely a lot smarter that I initially gave them credit for, so I guess I'm glad to be able to fully sympathize now with other hacking victims. It's become a stigma now almost that you're some complete retard if you get hacked and therefore it's your own fault. I never went on a limb to complain about my hacking, since I knew such backlash would incur, but I still think people need a greater understanding of how conniving new scammers can be and it's not just the victim being stupid.
PS - Good for you to act quickly and get your items back. :3 I wasn't as lucky since it took a good half hour to find an active mod to help (it was around 3am west coast time, when few people are online). Also, I was instantly booted off my account as soon as it happened, so I couldn't protect myself that way. =/

You felt like you lost apart of your life?
Do you even have a life then?
If you say all these things and such. Just forget about it if its "just a game."
Move on. Life's unfair and people can be complete jack___ well you know.

But I will add that all the talk of killing hackers is a bit extreme. ^^; Behind all the cheating and muck they cause, they're people to.
In all likelihood, they probably view hacking as a game as much as we consider the site to be the game. Personally, I prefer the one where less people want to kill me.

What happened to you is a hacking con that has been is use for a while now. It is very common knowledge to me that if it ever says that your logged off after clicking a link and it asks for your password you should check the URL and open a new window for that site to see if any sort of log in is required.
In a sense you did give the hacker your info. A hacker can only get into your account if they know your info. They can now guess to break in unless they know a lot about you and your password is very simple like your name or birthday.
There are a number of issues with any hack attempt. The best thing to do if a situation like that arises again would be to send them false information, report them, and/or let others know about the hack attempt.
I tell you to give false info cause gaia will ban the account however if they fail to log in on enough accounts often times the IP address they are using can be banned. Not always or necessarily a permanent thing. However Gaia is really unable to handle all the issues that are draining out its fun and usefulness.
I may seem bitter towards gaia but I feel I am in the right. For I was banned for "profiting from a botted account" If you are unclear as to what that means it is rather simple. A botted account is an account that is run souly by your computer. It is set up to earn gold while the owner of the account is not around. It is said that around 200k a day maybe more maybe less. However it is easy for them to log on a large number of accounts and set this up.
Where this comes in to effect me is a lot of these people are selling and or giving this Botted gold to other users. I had given over 3 million in gold and items from my start on gaia in 5-5-05 to the time of my ban 1-16-07. A small number of the people even donated back. One of which was a "friend" who gave me gold for a quest I was on. A 300k donation to be more accurate. To pay me back for some of what I had helped him with. That gold was Botted gold. Normally people will have the gold removed from the account and the situation will be explained. However gaia does often leave out the explanation. Due to the amount of gold I received they decided that I was either a person who botted gold myself. Or a person who was buying gold from an off site.
Losing an account worth over 16 million that I had made a nice reputation on made me a little angry. However the spotty workmanship of how gaia handled it made me outright furious. The only thing that brings me back to that site would have to be pming some of my friends.
Sorry for the useless rant.

Ouch @[email protected] *hughug*
That really truly sucks >.<
The other day while I was browsing the GCD I found a thread about the hacking and scamming on gaia and I panicked about the Keylogers and rushed to find some kind of detector of it and see if I had any on my computer.
I too am scared of losing my account on gaia! I have a nearly 4 years old account there (will be 4 years old in february) and around 4mil in items o.o so I'm always extra careful with my main o.o
I've had some of those log in links myself but I always look at the address bar, I've had scam pms but I always report them and my main is the only account with a nearly unique password o.o though I have two other people who know my password and who I know would never hack me.
I really feel for you as I can imagine the pain @[email protected] ...
Though, I'm curious for one thing, that friend who gave you the link was she hacked or she was the hacker?

I am sorry to hear that happened to you. I greatly despise hackers and cheaters and jus bad people in general. Thankfully I've never been hacked, but my husband and I are very careful. I've gotten a lot of hacking PMs on other sites, but I think the worst was a hacking E-mail for my paypal account. Just becuase its real money. That one was reported immeadiatly. </3

Hackers are such horrible people. You are right, it is just a game and people should realize that a few items on gaia, or any other site, are just pixelated things that aren't really worth anything in the real world.
But.. the people that I truely feel sorry for, are the people that are hacked and they where the ones that donated some money to get more items and money.
But then agian that is probably why I won't donate, for the fear of hackers taking my REAL hard earned money.
At anyrate, that really does bite, man. I haven't been hacked before, but I bet it really sucks. I would hate it, after working and spending hours on those sites and getting neat items.
I really hope you can get your gold back. You are lucky you got to save your items.
