Eesh, I don't have the best stomache, so it's probably not the greatest idea to view that video after other people have been posting about how it's disgusting and it makes them queasy and such. D:
But I will say one thing, if the food has such a fancy name like that, I usually turn down getting it. It always seems like those sorts of things are delicacies and such, and when that's the case, more often than not I'm sure they've done something horrible or disgusting to whatever the animal is that's going to eventually be killed for the meat that's set in front of you, because they claim that's what gives it the "great taste", or that's why it's so tender. So I tend to stay away from things like that to begin with.
While I'm thinking about it (the picture made me think about this), I must admit that I can't say I really ever understood why cooks will make something like that, and charge a lot of money for it, when it's such a tiny little piece of meat, either. I've seen so many cooking shows and shows about "great" restaurants where when you get served, it's this piece of meat that looks like it's only one bite, and then they go off and charge you like twenty dollars or over that for it. Can someone explain to me why that is?

Ishoku it's all about status.
Look at me, I'm so rich and important that i can afford this tiny piece of meat that people have climbed into inaccessible areas for, or nearly killed off a rare breed for, or have broken 20 different laws in 5 different countries for, or have tortured helpless creatures to be able to put it on my plate..
Have you also noticed that the really rare and expensive food is often said to taste disgusting too? Caviar being a case in point..

When you analyze most food, you'll find some disgusting elements. It's inevitable. Even the simplest cheeseburger came from the slaughterhouse. Conditions are terrible, animals are needlessly tortured, and the producers are the ones who reap the monetary benefits. And yet we all continue to eat the food. Why? Because it tastes good to us. As long as that video isn't playing right next to us while we eat at the restaurant, we're good to go.
And honestly - It doesn't make much difference to me in specific cases like this. Animal treatment when making fois gras is no different from animal treatment producing any other food on the market. Even "humane slaughter" is no better. I see no reason to look down upon this one dish just because it holds the reputation of being upper class, expensive, and disgusting. Word to the wise - It's not half bad. I've eaten it many times before, and I plan on going back for more.

Didn't watch the video, but generally my thought is that I don't really have any desire to eat the meat or organs of something that eats junk itself. Especially not the filtering organ where all that unhealthiness is gonna collect. Though I'm a vegetarian now anyway, so problem solved. xD As for the treatment of the animals, I don't condone the bad treatment, but it's hardly the reason for my vegetarianism. Animals ain't people too, sorry, mate. D;

I've never seen that on any menu of any resteraunt I've ever been to... Duck isn't a very common meal in my area. We stick to the basics (beef, pork, chicken).
I'm not a vegetarian. I try to follow a pretty balanced food pyramid, which includes meat. And wait, what's all this about meat being unhealthy? Meat is an essential part of our diet, it has a lot of fats and proteins we need (especially in early development). It's not so much about taste, either. Ground beef's texture sometimes gets to me, and I hate finding those little veins in chicken. It's just natural for people to eat meat.
I have a friend who's a "vegetarian". I put it in quotations because although she's a vegetarian, she'll tell me "Oh, yeah, I feel bad because I ate bacon for breakfast, a turkey sandwhich for lunch, and a hamburger for dinner. I guess I could have gotten something else but it just looked soooo tasty!" It's a little hypocritical in my opinion, and I can't refrain from rolling my eyes when she tells me this. *shrug*

Don't mean to sound cruel but, if it's already happened, might as well eat it and not let all it went through to serve you, go to waste. Just my personal view. :lol:

- :/ I have never heard of this before this post...
While I love duck meat, mainly Chinese barbeque, enlarged liver doesn't sound all that great. I saw a picture on Wikipedia on what they do instead of watching the video. Not very nice.

- I stopped watching when the employees just picked the ducklings from the table. The way they picked the poor things up made me sick already.
I never ate Foie Grass before, or at least I think I haven't. Hmm..
Geh, it sounds torturous though. :|
Not entertained pshu~. :C
