That all depends on what you're using to create that color. Are you useing markers, photoshop? It looks like you used a Tablet, but, I'm not quite sure. If you did, use different brushes to create different effects. But, it all depends on what type of look you're going for.

I'm using Photoshop.

Though I have a bunch of traditional media. Color pencils, paints and multiliners. Maybe I should just go to artist and ask them how they do specific things.. *contemplates*

What are the advantages and disadvantages of markers?

@Shake Solidarity sister. Don't worry... we will learn, eventually. ;__;

Markers are very nice things. It's much faster than, say, colored pencils, and it's not as messy as paint. You can cover area very quickly. The only thing is that once an area is covered it can't be uncovered. It's the same for darkening things--once you darken, you can't lighten.

But they're still very nice and easy to use. Even coats of solid color may be a bit difficult, and you'll need white out for a mistake. The only other thing is the cost. I love copics, but they're on the rather pricey side, as are prismacolors. I suppose there are other good, cheaper markers out there, but I don't know about them.

For coloring in photoshop, try using a fuzzy airbrush. Another thing I do is just scribble the shading with a pencil tool, like I'm just shading on paper, and then use the blur tool to smooth it out.

As for cleaning up... well, those people are just talented. I'm lazy, so instead of cleaning up, I just make my style rather messy so it looks like it's meant to be that way. xD

Fuzzy airbrush? What do you set the flow at? Explanations/elaborations are <3.

Smug tool to blend. @[email protected] That's a good tip. Thanks. :3

I'm lazy with the clan up to~ sometimes I think it's just better to draw and paper then scan it. But then, when you scan it, there is no way to just take the black outlines and make the white transparent or is there?

Drawing with a wacom is just~ slipper? I don't know. Feels like I have less control.

You should be able to just select the fuzzy brushes when you select your brush type. The fuzzy ones are the ones that have sort of blurred looking edges.

There is a way! It is the most wonderful miracle in the world because it saves hours of work. All you have to do is set the layer with the outline to layer mode MULTIPLY. And voila! The white is gone! What the setting does is take all the white out of the layer. The setting SCREEN takes out all the black. ...the only thing is that if you've drawn on old paper with that sort of yellow-ish tinge, the yellow-ish tinge stays. ...You could probably just tweak it your level adjustments or something though (under image -> adjustments -> adjust levels).

...Yes, I'm a photoshop geek. xD

Well, it takes awhile to get used to. ...but some people like drawing with their mouses and touch pads. I actually do like my good old oil paints best. But it's a personal preference thing.

  • For coloring, you could try just coloring it normally with 100% opacity and 100% flow using a skinny brush and then go over with the blur tool later. Or you can try using 100% opacity and around 10% flow, it takes a bit longer but it gives it a nice blended almost painterly look which I really like. But whichever you do end up using, it often turns out better if you shade gradually, for example white => light gray => gray => dark gray => black, know what I mean? x3

well about coloring.. you have only flat color xD what kind of coloring you would like to have on your art? more "painty"or more don't know how should I name it.. that mangaish type of coloring where everything is shiney and looks like made of plastic xD;

about tradytional media.. the FASTER way is coal I think xD

but everything depends on that what efect you would like to have on your art. sometimes it's easier to use watercolor, sometimes just pencil, sometimes markers.. you must try everything and check what is YOUR way. we all are diffrent and it's hard to say what will be the best in tips.

anyway. if you want some tutorials, check DA just click this for some Photoshop tutorial.

I use the airbrush tool in photoshop when i CG. It makes things soft and pretty - it's the soft brush with like...a low opacity - it's pretty :D XDD beautiful - i like your style and anatomy!

I just use the blend and smudge tool in my Photoshop, lol. You should definitely do some shading, it'll really bring out the picture.

Yeah~ it's like when I use the computer, I've gone retarded. At least with photoshop but 3D max makes sense to me (what shit... I don't know.) I've colored with other media. Also, I'm decent at shading... I guess I'm impatient when pick swatches and color gradients. D':

*downloads tutorials* I never use deviant art... I don't know why I avoid it. ^^;

So that's the secret! Image just one layer mode saves hours of clean up. xD Thanks~<3
