All happy childhoods have to come to an end at one point or another. When it is happily played out and grown out of or when it's shattered by some almost tragic event.
Mel's chubby bare feet thumped against the cold floor as she rain through the large house, laughing and shrieking as she went. Her family needed a large house for all the kids they had, over half a dozen, 8 to be exact and Mel was the youngest by far.
"Come on Melly." She mother called after her. "You need get out of those filthy pajamas!"
"NO!" Mel shrieked! "Bunny doesn't want to be washed."
"Yes Bunny does, Bunny is usually nice and pink but look at her now." Mel's mom said staring down at Mel in her filthy pajamas. The pajamas were pink with a hood that had bunny ears sticking out of it and a not so fluffy any more tail. "She looks like a brown bunny with lots of coloured spots. Don't you want your pink bunny back?" Mel's mom said hoping this would get her daughter out of the fifthly pajamas.
"No." Mel said running away again and this time she hid the the one place no one ever found her, in her mind she called it the rabbit burrow.
"Mommy will give you some candy if you come out Melly." This trick always, almost got a peep out of Mel but candy was only the second most important thing and bunny was the first.
"Whats all this shouting about?" Mel's father shouted angrily as he came into the house from flirting with the girl next door who was only a few years old then his oldest daughter.
"Mel wont take that stupid bunny off again." Her mother sighed.
"Thats because you spoil her too much." Her father growled, "you need to give her a good smack and I will the next time I see that little brat."
"But she's only a baby!" Her mother protested.
"She is three years old!" He shouted as some of his older children hurried off to hide in their rooms.
Tommy, Mel's oldest brother, walked into the bathroom a few ours later to find Mel siting in the tub filled with bubbles and she was still wearing her bunny pajamas.
"Mel what are you doing?" Tommy asked.
"Giving bunny a bath so mommy doesn't have too." Mel smiled up at him.
"Get out of there before dad finds you and gives you a good smacking!" Tommy said lifting her out soaking wet. He set her down on the bath mat and closed the bathroom door. "Now Mel," Tommy said in a whisper. "I got a job and saved up enough money to get my own place, so I am not gonna be here to look after you an mommy any more. So you have to try extra hard to be good."
"Ok." Mel pouted.
