  • Oh. That's excusable then. I'm doing a quiz on English grammar and this is bloody difficult. Finite subordinates, gerunds, indicative or subjunctive mood... my brain will probably explode if I don't get this soon.

Grammar is the one part of English I hate. I'm good with the whole construction things, but the names just don't stick or make sense to me.

I have to do lots of corrections on a Japanese test. As in, LOTS of corrections. My wrist is going to hurt after that.
Gah. I should stop procrastinating...

I haven't seen this thread in a while!

Good job to whoever gave it medical attention before it was too late.

  • Up to a point, I think grammar is interesting and usually it helps understand the language on another level, sort of. But English is just so irregular, it's weird learning its grammar. And it's really complex and different from most of the grammar I've learnt from other languages. Blah. I think I've sort of got it. I have a home exam tomorrow I'm trying to study for.

Are you teaching Japanese? Or just helping someone?

    Procrastination = <3

Anna, I understand the thread disappeared for a while. I hope it's given everyone the chance to store up on Phoenix Down's? :3

Meh, my grammar is pretty decent when I want it to be, it's just the names which annoy me. At least Japanese grammar isn't insanely hard even though remembering which particles go where in which situations with what noun or verb forms is kinda annoying sometimes.

Currently learning. In Japanese 3. :o

Hope your dinner is nice. I'll be getting lunch soonish.

  • Back!
Yreka, my grammar is also pretty good for someone with English as a second or third language. But yeah, we have to learn the names for everything and know what they do. I'm not so good with rules, really. I get a pretty good feel for languages, but even in my own language, which is almost as full of grammar as Latin and German, I couldn't explain very many grammatical rules for you. Apart from the really really basic common sense ones, of course. I just know how they work.
I only took one course in Japanese, but the little we got to know of the grammar, it didn't seem very difficult at all. I'm very bad with particles in general. xD
I wish I could take more Japanese, it's such an interesting and beautiful language. I should start drawing up the kana sometime soon, to refresh my memory. I'd learned all the katakana and almost all the hiragana as well, but I've forgotten most of it now. And I know.. four kanji! xP I draw the kanji I know on the glass wall in the shower everytime I shower, to remember them, heh. I got a beautiful writing set from my brother last summer I haven't really used at all, I feel sort of bad but I just haven't had the time.

Dinner was nice, thanks. Hope your lunch is nice.

At least they've pretty much toned down the amount of grammar excercises we have to do in the high school...

Yeah, I think Japanese is a beautiful language. I started taking it after going to Japan on an exchange trip and ended up loving the culture in general. Besides, it's kinda fun to start talking to someone who thinks they know a decent amount since they've complete anime fan-girls/fan-boys and to watch them try to decipher what I just said. xD

  • I've always loved Japanese culture. I got a Japanese penpal some years back and talking to her made me realize even better how much I love it. Sadly I've never been there, but I intend to go there at least once in my lifetime.
Haha, I can imagine! Stupid fangirls! xD

xD I want to learn Japanese, but I only know a few words I throw in conversations. I can't even say a full sentence in it, unless you count 'Sorry' or 'Thank You'.

  • I only know a couple of sentences by heart, and a few words. It's been a while since I studied it, so I can't really put together a sentence on my own. Sad. :/

I should take a few Japanese classes one of these days. Then I can watch anime without waiting for it to be subbed!

  • I didn't think it was as hard as everyone said it would be at all. Not saying it's easy-peasy, but it is fairly easy. It's just that it's from a completely different language family than the rest of the languages I know, so the vocabulary and everything was somewhat hard to learn for me. But yeah, you should. It's fun. :3

That would be years of classes then. I've been taking it for something like 5 years so far and I can only understand a quarter to a half of what is said in song or in an anime if I concentrate and pause every so often to go back over what was said...

;.; But I'm a fangirl! A rabid one, in fact!

@[email protected] Maybe if I'm lucky, it'll be easier for me since I can already speak a little bit of Korean.
