- When you go to restaurants, do you...take a little more than necessary? xD
My sociology professor brought up an interesting story about what he observed in the university's Taco Bell. Students would go back to the soda machine and refill their drinks...without paying. There was a sign that clearly said, refills $.50. But no one paid. He asked us what we thought about it. Were we being deviant?
Most people thought not. After all, it's only two quarters. Taco Bell is a part of a huge corporation so they're not really missing anything. (But it adds up! ^^; ) Some rationalized that since they had to wait so long for their food, Taco Bell owed them.
Okay, so I don't really have the balls to take refills without paying. But whenever I go to restaurants, I take a lot of napkins. I get pretty messy with food, but hey...they're useful for more than just my meal eating experience. xD I use restaurant napkins to clean with, to put under stuff I stick in the microwave, so on and so on.
But...it is costing them money so...homg, I'm a bad person. D:
No sporks for you. Go swipe one from Taco Bell. XD

I'm a napkin thief too *holds hand up* i admit it
plus those wet wipes that you get in places like KFC, those are very handy to keep in your handbag, and if someone seems to think that i want 4 packets of sugar with my pot of tea then i'm quite happy to take them home with me.
But i wouldn't sneak a free refill when you're meant to pay for it.
but in places like Pizza Hut i will pile as much as is humanly possible into my bowl at the salad bar

I know I do, lolz. I do take a lot of napkins too. Mweh. -not really STEALING- is it? :o They're useful as freebies. And, usually if they have a refill -you got to pay- type o place, it isn't out in public, its inside the kitchen area where they make all the fast food and stuff. xD So no, never heard of that sort of thinf of refill pay sneakits. (But I would do it)

I take more napkins than I need (I need a lot, too), I give myself free refills (but all the places where I'm able to do that, it's not marked if they're free or not, so I assume they're free), I take straws, forks, and spoons, and if they have sporks, I take all of them. I also take a ton of food at buffets and salad bars and have a tendency to take more than one piece of free candy.
I don't eat out much, though.

If I was meant to pay for a refill, I would.
Napkins, wet-naps, and things like that though? Whoo boy. I can't get enough it seems. xD Especially the wet-naps. Like Jelly said, they're very convenient!

The wet wipes things and napkins and stuff are meant to be taken, so I don't feel bad about that.
I wouldn't give myself a free refill, though. I just don't do that. >.<
The other day, we were in Subway and my friends took some cups. We had a couple liters of pop in the car, so they thought...let's just get some cups. My mom and I were like... >.> You're not supposed to do that, are you?
It's not like we got chased by cops or something, lol, but it still felt wrong.
Even so, I seem to have no trouble taking a bunch of those lovely temporary tatoos that my favorite band scatters on their merch table. But considering that my friends just walked off with about all of my tatoos, including the purty ones that I haven't seen at -any- shows so far, I don't feel so bad. -grumbles-

It doesn't really matter to me. I think, yeah, it's only some soda, and if they really wanted the extra 50 cents, they shouldn't make it so easy to get more soda.
xD What's really funny, is that once this guy I know was at a Diner with his friends, and one of them had an apartment or was in a college dorm or whatever.
Anyways, the girl is stuffing the SILVERWARE into her purse, and the guy who owns the Diner sees and says "It's okay, you can take it."
And silverware is costly, so, it's weird how she got away with it.

I generally try to be honest - but at the same time charging for refills on fountain soda is a complete ripoff - restaurants charge way more for soda than they pay out - but that still doesn't make it OK to steal soda.
I'm guilty of napkin 'theft' - I take more then I need and keep them in my car for emergencies - like messy sneezes, small spills, and window wiping

To be honest, working in a restaurant does give a person lots of perspective on things.
Those napkins are probably a penny a package. Places like Taco Bell, who sell messy food, practically expect you to take as many napkins as needed. As long as it brings you back to buy more food.
In essence you pay for everything when you pay for the food. If the company is doing everything right, then they shouldn't be losing a considerable amount of money. Though that doesn't mean that people shouldn't pay that 50 cents for the refill. If you don't want to pay the 50 cents, go to a damn water fountain.

When possible, I always take more refresher towels than necessary. When I was a kid I had a whole plastic bag full of them at home, I was very proud of my collection! It came in handy when we used to go out to places like farms and zoos.
Though I've noticed these days, they are being more stingy with their refesher towels, like they give you two rather than you being able to take as much as you want from the dispenser
I don't drink soft drinks so I don't ever need to refill.

A long time ago when my kids were still really young, actually I don't even think my son was born yet... anyway, we would take extra ketchup, salt&pepper, those BBQ things, napkins, sugar packets, etc and put them all in a plastic bag. That way if I didn't have money to buy a big bottle of ketchup or equal packets we would at least have a few to make it through our meal.
The napkins are great to keep in the car just in case.

- n-n I keep using way too much napkins or just steal them to use later *xD Thief*. However - once at my school - someone stole ketchup on Chicken Nugget Day and put it on the Toilet seat. I felt bad for the person who sat without noticing them.

I hardly ever eat at fast food places that tend to have soda machines like that, or the displays of condiment packets and such. I used to like to get a few extra packets of whatever was offered, like ketchup or sugar, but not much other than that.
Along those lines though, one thing I'm a total culprit with is bathrooms. There is this one coffeeshop in town that I only buy things from occassionally, but since you don't have to ask for the bathroom key, I use it all the time.
Another thing I'm totally shameless about it wireless access. That same coffeeshop offers wireless and has a daily fee, but they have no password, so I just use it whenever I like. They've never checked on me, so I've never paid.

i always take too many napkins. xD;
not on purpose...i just do. xD;;
then, I usually end up stuffing the napkins into my purse, or a bag. eheheheh.
At Taco Bell, I always grab too many sauve packets...just to read what they say on them. xD
I also always grab a spork, just because I want them.
My twisted yet logical reasoning is that if they wanted to limit people from taking the items, Taco bell wouldn't put them out there in the first place.

- Nope. XD I don't do anything like taking refills, unless I'm being rebellious.
Also I don't care much for ketchup packets or napkins, or anything like that. Though the only ketchup we have at home is from fast food places and the only napkins we have at home are from fast food places because my parents always get the whole bottom of the bag filled with them. DX

Lmao, I've actually thought about that before. My mother always takes more than enough napkins and put them in her car for just when ever. I mean, if you've eaten in a car, you understand. But my old science teacher is horrible. The school paid to take us to McDonalds for a lunch, and gave us all $5 to spend, any more and we paid for it, but when we got there the Shrek event was going on, and she took 27 straws (I counted when she was in the restroom) and said she was just going to use them around the house and then she said, "I mean come on! They're green! Have you ever seen a green straw before?!"
But uh, I guess the resturants around my town have caught onto this. Most resturants that want us to pay for refills, have the drink fountain behind the counter. And there's a resturant where the napkin holder actually says "Take only as many as you need!" But most resturants don't care and let you drink as much soda as you need. Oh day I ordered a small coke, and spent like 3 hours just refilling it and typing on my sisters laptop. :]
