I Googled the song to find the lyrics of it, and when I saw the link to it's Wikipedia entry I went ahead and clicked. I thought it was so funny what was under inspirition.

Linkage Long story short, the guy wrote the song for the girl (it took over a year to write it) and even after he wrote it she refused to go out with him. It is one of my favorite songs, and honestly, if a guy ever wrote a song like that for me, I would automatically go out with him, even if I didn't like him that much because that is so sweet. Dammit, I'd have his babies.

O:
Wow.
xD
That's weird...
>>;

I kind of feel sympathy for Delilah, though, because she's got all that pressure on her now; this super-popular song written about her, but she doesn't want to go out with him or anything. This is like the pressure of...a whole nation!
D:
Or more!
O:

But if someone wrote a song like that for me, I'd feel grateful for it, but I wouldn't go out with him just because he wrote a song for me, as sweet as it may be...

I wonder if any other songs have strange inspirations + stories behind them...

I guess I feel the same way, okay I wouldn't have his babies. And I have a feeling that he didn't feel the same way about her after he finished writing the song about her a year later.

Yeah...probably.
It has been a year...

But then again, it's been ONLY a year.
xD;
Er.

I wouldn't have his babies, either.
I'm not even legal.
xD
>>;

But back on the topic -ahem- xD

If he still had his feelings for her, do you think he'd go all-out with the song?
I mean, he's probably on tour, singing that song across America and all, and he made the music video, etc.

Maybe he does still like her, so that's why he's still continuing with the song and getting the most he can out of it?

It's funny because when I first heard this song, I didn't really care for it. I had gotten the myspace CD and they had another song that I became obsessed with and I guess I didn't leave too much room in my mind for their other songs.

However, now that the one song is out of my system, I like this one so much more. It makes me happy and sad all at once.

  • I feel the same way, at first I didn't like the song but now I'm obsessed with it.

    @tetenpuff; Maybe he does, or maybe he just likes the song. It is possible to continue to sing a song after the feelings for that person aren't as strong.

That's so sad. If only she'd at least given him a chance.

I love that song so much.

That's where i got my name from .. i'm not called Delilah but i think it's such a cute name.

I'm trying to learn it on keyboard and guitar too. It's so simple.

Ahaha. That's one of my most favorite songs. My whole family makes fun of me for it, though. They changed words in it and such. Like

"Oooh, what you do to Jaaaammmess. Oooh, what you do to James."

And I'm like;

;~;

But I still love this song.

  • The song is really representative of long distance relationships and stuff. About how two people going two seperate ways but still trying to make their relationship work.

    Even though the guy who wrote it never even got together with Delilah.

D': Poor Tom. Now I feel so bad for him.

I love the song. It's so sweet and never fails to make me smile. But has anyone listened to the first version (the one on All That We Needed and the second version (the one that's on the radio / Every Second Counts) and noticed how different they are? I'm not sure which one I like more; the first one's more simple and pure acoustic and really brings the voice of the song out (not the literal vocal track, but it sounds like a song that ought to be played that way), but the newer one is prettier and more refined, with all the string tracks.
I don't know. :]

The song is so, so very sweet. I honestly teared up the first few times I heard it. Because it's so emotional, deep, loving, and basically, sweet.

If a guy wrote that for me, I'd be truly touched, but... I'd have to see how I really felt about him before going out with him. Despite the sweet song.

One of my most favorite songs ever. I can relate, because I was once in a long-distance relationship. And even with the relationship I have no, I'm still not able to see my spouse much. When I first heard the song I had to find it and listen to it over and over again. It's an amazing song.

"Our friends would all make fun of us and we'll just laugh along because we know that none of them have felt this way." is my favorite line.

It's such a pretty song. :C I know it's quite overplayed, but I still love it very much. It's just so catchy, agh. xD

Not one of those relating songs for me though.

If a guy even sang a song for me, I'm sure that would be enough. But writing a song? D: Oh man. That would be SO awesome.

I cannot stand that song. It's annoying and gets stuck in your head, and it's not even a GOOD song.

Not to mention it's highly overplayed.

It's sweet that he wrote that for a girl-but it's still annoying.

I’m not a big fan of the song because I don’t like the singer’s voice. I do however think it’s a very sweet song because of the instrumental part and the lyrics. If a guy wrote a song like that for me I’d be flattered, but I would never date them because I’m married. If I wasn’t then I’d at least consider it to at least get to know them better.

I hate Plain White T's. I really do.
Their other song... that I Really Don't Like You one... it's terrible! Absolutely terrible! What kind of lyrics are those?

But... I cannot resist its uber cuteness. It's just so sweet. Makes me think of my boyfriend. I feel bad for that chick, though. If a guy ever wrote a song about me and it got played on the radio over and over.. I'd want to scream and break things.

I occasionally hear people singing that song. Last summer, in my Psychiatry class, the teacher decided to have some American Idol thing; a group of 5 girls and one guy sang that song--it was really damn choppy, but nonetheless, they sang it. Then I see this thread, thinking it must be a neat song and the story behind it is "cute," in a way. I finally convinced myself to listen to it--but I, personally, just don't like that song. >>; Maybe it's the guy's voice (not really into Plain White T's music), but it just didn't click with me.

It's a fairly cute song, but it has been way over played that now I'm kind of sick of it.
I won't go out with a guy if he wrote a song for me. I'd be flattered but that would be a silly reason to date a guy IMHO.

Ahh...good song, but definitely overplayed...I don't need to hear it twelve times a day, you know?

Anyway, I don't think I'd go out with the guy just because he wrote me an overplayed song...and parts of it, honestly, strike me as kind of arrogant...

Ew, ew, ew, ew, ew. I hate this song. Like, you have no idea xD Its so just.. whiney and stalkery and I cringe every time I hear it. I don't think the artist is very good, and I just don't like the song.

My little brother plays it to torment me. So do my friends haha.

I liked this song the first 10 times I heard it xD

After 50, I tolerated it.

Now, I turn the volume way down.
