The Umbrella Academy is a six-issue limited comic book series that will be released on September 19th of 2007. Oh, Did I mention that The Umbrella Academy is the creation of Gerard Way, vocalist of My Chemical Romance?

The plot, as quoted from the Umbrella Academy article from wikipedia:

Quote:

When news of a world-ending threat is made public, the former team members must put their differences aside and unite to save the world.
The characters, which I find fascinating, include:
  • The Monocle (Sir Reginald Hargreeves) – He is a wealthy entrepreneur and inventor who adopts the member of the Umbrella Academy. He is also of alien origin.
The Horror – He possesses monsters under his skin from other dimensions.
The Kraken – He has the ability to breathe underwater.
The Rumor (Allison Hargreeves) – She has the ability to make lies come true.
The Séance – He has the ability to communicate with the dead and levitate.
Spaceboy – He is the leader of the Umbrella Academy. His body is that of a Martian gorilla's.
I think the characters are amazingly original :] Plus the fact that they're the brainchildren of Gerard Way make me squirm with joy.

The entire article on The Umbrella Academy, posted on wikipedia, can be found here.

The Umbrella Academy was interesting and fun. But confusing at times. I think it will be better once more issues come out.

The art isn't that bad either.

My little sister recently bought the full collection of this.
She's a huge Gerard Way/MCR fangirl, so it was kind of a must for her.

I LOVE THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY!

It took me the longest time to figure out what the Rumor's power was though...

I've been loving the Dallas arc. The villians (sort of) are hilarious. I loved their conversation about girl scout cookies.

I have the first one. It's a good series but I never really got into it. I think at a point, the super MCR fangirls ruined it for me.

Try not to think of the fangirls. It is a really good comic on it's own merit and the fact that the lead singer of a popular band wrote it shouldn't ruin the story for anyone. That just seems kind of petty to me to skip it for something that has nothing to do with the story or art style or even the genre of comic. It won Eisner awards. That should say something about the skill behind the making of it, fangirls or not.

I just finished Apocolypse suite, I thought the characters were really interesting, especially the time traveler stuck in a boys body. It took me a little while to get into it but now I can't wait for the next story line. the defined the characters really well and made me want to get to know them even better. I can even picture who should place certain parts if they ever make a movie of it.

Apparently they are making a movie.
I would rather they didn't but of course they didn't ask me.
I actually think the Dallas story line has been even better that the Apocalypse Suite so far.
It is funnier at least.

My favorite character is the Rumor I understood her power right away, i didn't realize that it was so confusing to some people but it's even wrong in the first post so I guess some people found it confusing.
I think it's weird that they would want to make a movie so soon. It seems like Hollywood is on some sort of comic book kick right now. I'm living away from home right now so the new issues are stacking up at my old comix shoppe waiting for me to visit home. It's so hard to wait!

I love the Umbrella Academy, not just because Gerard way wrote it (I am a My Chem fan girl though) but because in some way, you need to think about it before it clicks. At the Forbidden Planet, the comic book shop where I live in England, they had this rather epic Umbrella Academy umbrella and coffee mug, I have never wanted an umbrella so much before. :)
Out of all the characters, I think Vanya would be my favorite character. I really feel for her and the fact that because no one understood her, she let herself be pulled to the dark side because she had nothing else. She was turned against her family, which in my case, has happened to me before, so Vanya is like my favorite one. I love her hair colour too.

My favorite character is Klaus. I'm not sure why, but he's just awesome.

In Dallas #5, Klaus and his Vietnamese Friend/Wife/Mistress have a conversation in Vietnamese... does anyone know what this is?

Also, just to clarify: AS = Apocalypse Suite, HO = Hotel Oblivion.

What Is HO?
Hotel Oblivion is the third installment in the Umbrella Academy series. Although I'm not sure when it will be released, it was been hinted in AS 2 or 3, I believe. After the Academy defeats the termonauts, spaceboy deliveres this mysterious line:
"Dad said no one could ever escape the hotel."
There is no context around this line. Keep in mind the fact that this is AFTER the Academy finds out about Monocle's death.

Well, there's my rant. xD
