people are cool in my book by their communications with me. and thusly incorporating their personality. I dont like jerks. they are uncool (according to me) I dont like people that call their friends 'hey bitch or slut etc' that is uncool to me. Respect is cool. Acting like you have everything anyone in the world would ever want is uncool.
I dont think posessions make a person cool and an insurance company targeting the 'cool' factor seems kinda stupid. You would think just being able to say hey, if anything happen we got your back is enough instead of coming up with a stupid gimic. I wish places would just tell you how it is not try to pretty it up. like uhaul. they are uncool. oh yeah its only $20 to rent a moving truck! (plus taxes and 14 other random fees which will make your total out to be... $100+ THAT is uncool.) (ok so im a bit bitter but meh...)

Cool by look is generally as Hyde put it,
"Aloof and Zen."
Coolness by group is due to those around you and how they as a group see you.
Coolness from a single though is maybe those who agree with you.
Coolness is relative generally. Fun though.

I don't think cool matters. I've never been cool, nor do I want to be. If you're that hungry to be accepted, you have issues.
But then again, cool can be looked at in different ways. There's cool where you are the popular, stylish, rich, outgoing kid in your school. But also you could be the cool person who is looked up to by your little sister or your little neighbor boy, or whoever. There's cool where you are generally nice and let people off easy.
So cool can be good in some ways, but usually it's looked at as the first option I stated.

Cool is just a word. xD
The main point to this argument, I think, is that there is a difference between stuff that's cool and stuff that's "cool". "Cool" is pretentious, obnoxious. Cool are the people and things that you think are interesting.
I personally think most things are cool. One of my friend's little brother started college and is working as part of his professors research team... And they made a discovery. That's cool! People who are artists, who know sign language, who crochet, who scrapbook or rubber stamp... Those people and those activities are cool. Cool is not stupid pretentious snobs who don't care about anything but the "right" clothes, and the "right" everything else. That's not cool, it's moronic.
I'm cool, my friends are cool, my family is cool, and all the awesome stuff we do is cool. :D
Cool is what you want it to be!

I personally believe that everyone is cool in their own way. I mean, we all have talents, idiosyncrasies, quirks, details, interests and things that at least one person will find cool. For instance, I find anime/manga, and animation in general, cool. But, someone else may come along and say "Anime is lame". My brother finds wrestling cool, but not playing Gaia.
My point is, it's a matter of perspective. Another example is that I've been watching Excel Saga recently, and I find it amusing. One person could say "Excel Saga is lame". But, I like Excel Saga, and would watch it. Again, matter of perspective. Someone out there would find it "uncool", while someone else will get a kick out of it and find it "cool".
I personally don't find what the media considers "cool", cool at all. Like, for instance, drugs, sex, booze, flashing yourself for the public, money ("Screw the rules, I have money!". I couldn't resist. XD), objects, fashion, anything. I usually don't like it when people say things are "out of fashion". Because, fashion isn't going with the crowd. In fact, fashion trends begin when one individual wears something, then more people decide to wear it, then more people, until a celebrity wears it too, and then it becomes a fashion trend. Therefore, in order to be truly fashionable, you need to unique. I know this is an online example, and thus probably a bad example, but I remember one of my better avatars on Gaia looking more like a character from a magical girl anime, and had a lot of yellow. Most people I've seen on Gaia usually don't try yellow. I was proud, and felt that my avatar looked good.
So, be yourself. That's the only way to be cool. :3

- What makes someone cool?
If they're not hot or cold.
Just kidding.
Whatever the individual values is what they'll perceive to be desirable or admirable. I respect talents, hard work, uniqueness, strength, good moral character, and stuff like that in people. When it comes to technology, it's anything that makes me go, ho snap, I want that! >D

- Fuck "cool." Society has defined it in such a way that I do not comform to the whole standard of it and such. So I pretty much say screw this to society and become a social outcast. In itself, I find that fine.
It has no true substanance. Then again, nor do any words out there until we define definiton in my opinion, but that's getting into a few linguistical philosophy paradoxes and such so I shall not go there.
In other words, i'm not "cool" as current society defines it. I am just out there and one of the few people who knows that it has absolutely no rational meaning. 8D

I've never felt 'cool' in the slang sense of the word... Nor do I believe I could actually define the word correctly. I believe it's all really relative... What's cool to one person may not be to another. So because of this I don't think it is really so important to pursue being 'cool' at all. No matter how hard you try, you'll never appear acceptably 'cool' to everyone.

Instead of cool, Id use awsome, or OMGYOUARETOOAWSOMEFORWORDS. Either one : D
And, someone is cool, as many others have said probably, a friendly outgoing person, which is how I am [ Lolz, Im not trying to say Im cool~ Im a dork : B AND being a dork is AWSOME. ] Although when I try to be outgoining Im usually thought to be stupid cause of it. Anyways, a person who cares, and is understanding, mostly understanding, is cool to me.
and and, being a dork is awsome because you get to meet people with more along you intersts, and such. If you arnt a dork, youll meet a lot of fake people, and such.
I rant too much xD

There are something within everybody which makes he/she cool...although you may not always see it. People do have their own special way of making themselves attractive or...ignorant. It will depend on other people's own individual opinions. Some people find being energetic, talkative, and friendly is cool, and some may find being passive, aloof, and quiet is cool. There will people who will like you no matter what, whether you are "cool" or silly, that is what really important.

I think that there aren't any people that are actually cool and that it is just a state of mind.
My personal perception of cool is of people who manage to be friends with virtually everyone without making anyone feel uncomfortable. There are also the people who beleive themselves to be cool (people who only talk to those they perceive to be cool.)
I guess it is difficult to define people as cool and what not, much easier just to leave it with just clothing and accessories. Though that is all in a persons personal opinion.

Having cool things does not make you cool. I remember in elementary school there were ALWAYS trends. xD; The cools kids had whatever was cool at the time, but there was always that nerd who had it too, but no one noticed or really cared because they weren't already cool. x3 If you play your cards right, having cool things can give out a cool impression, though. :3
You can't really be born cool either. You can have a cool family with a cool lifestyle, but you can still be a dork even when you got that stuff. xD
...I am definatly not a cool exspert, though. xD; Though many people tell me I'm cool. 83

I don't really like using the word 'cool' to describe a person.
I use it more in situations, usually sarcastic ones.
For example:
Someone; "Heeeey, I totally failed my French test!"
Me; "Oh, that's cool!"
Ya know. ;D
I usually call people awesome, or neat, or something.
And I guess their personality is what makes them cool.
They may have AMAZING clothes, or something, but they could have a horrible personality.
I won't think they're cool...
