I was prowling around the net.
Searching for Statistics for my Senior English class and I can across this site.
Hope
(Click down to "You are NOT alone")

I was reading the statistics, -this is exactly what I need to finish this assignment! muahhahaha >.>;- and at the very end of the list I find this...

Quote:
A Unique Answer
The problems are not unique, but the answer is. Regardless of these startling statistics, the solution to the problem is Jesus!
Jesus!? :o
Oh lordy!!
I understand that Religion can help some people who are in need of well..help but this made me laugh.
I don't care for Christianity, I actually loath it. -Another story-
But for those who are like me and don't believe in Relgion then how the hell do you expect them to go to this place freely? :o
I would never step foot in a place like this, even if my life is a crashing train wreak.

A-ways.
Discuss.

Homework.
Interesting Statistics.
Exc exc.

Just wanted to post this because I thought it was strange and hilarious. :3

People need things to believe in. They don't want to believe life might be purposeless and everyone is looking for the easy answer. Like a lot of people, I see it as a crutch for those who seek reassurance. -shrug-

I don't think it's okay to hate a whole religion over it.

Sure, there are plenty of hypocrites, but some of the morals are good. (Not all, like some people might claim. I don't personally think homosexuality is as big a crime as murder and should be punishable by death, even if the old testament says so >< I think homosexuality is perfectly acceptable, but that's me.)

I was once Christian, for the past three years I've been agnostic.
By my own choice with no other agnostics around to influence me. I was an agnostic months before I met another agnostic who put a name to my beliefs. Both of my parents are religious. I am proud and happy with my own choices, and that is all that matters to me.

I think that some people need a religion in the same way that they need a scapegoat for things. They just don't know who to blame all the bad/good things on, I guess.

I don't believe in god.

I don't hate any religion. I just can't stand it when I tell people my beliefs and they get in my face about it. A girl at work overheard me say I don't believe in god to someone else and she just had to come over. She said, with an attitude, "What do you mean you don't believe in god? You see him in the mirror every morning?!" WTH? I also heard her saying that she's not a mammal and that she's smarter than every "animal".

I usually don't talk about it cuz people can be very confrontational.

I believe in a lot of things and nothing wrong with that... However to say a religion can help someone who has a physical and mental problem is a little extreme. You almost have to both physically and mentally believe in order for anything like that to work. Even Mother Theresa had doubts and that is saying a lot. If you doubt even once, I doubt it would work.

Things like that make me angry. As if Christianity is the biggest religion! As if it's the best! I mean in medieval times they couldn't force people to join without turning their gods into devils first! Need an example? The green man/pan and lucifer. Lucifer used to be a man. Just another angel until they realised that if he looked like the horned god Pan they could say Pan was the devil and hey presto, converts! They did this a lot "Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live" changed to fuel mass murder as "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" Knowing all of this how could I follow such a biased and poisonus religion?

Personally I like my religion far better where the main rule is "All posative religions should be accepted for they are all different branches of the same tree"

Christians in my view are far too unaccepting of others, patronising and some are just plain evil! The only Christian group I could ever truely support (and do so regulary) are the relatively new Salvation Army who are not about converting and damning all other faiths, but about helping people with Gods blessing.

That's my tuppence on the matter and I shall say no more on it.

It angers me when Christians (or anyone else; I just haven't had this experience with other religions) try to shove their beliefs down my throat. I went to a Christian church--and I will be the first to say that not all Christians suck, or anything like that. But some do, and some use their religion as an excuse to do everything their way--from Nazism and the KKK on down.

I don't believe that there is a god, but I could be wrong. Maybe you're right. But it pisses me off when people say, "What proof do you have that he ISN'T there?" And then act like that settles it. What proof do they have that invisible ponies aren't dancing around them on their tails? They don't. (In case you're wondering, I don't believe that, either.)

My mother knows that I'm atheist.... I knew that my uncle and grandfather and (I think) my grandmother had read Ayn Rand's work, so I said "I'm an objectivist", hoping that would clear things up. She said, "Oh, so at least you believe in SOMETHING." Err...... No. That's kind of the point. And since then she's implied "It's okay for you to SAY you're atheist..... As long as you still pray and show up for church and everything." I've got no problem with visiting my church--some of the people are very nice. I grew up with them and like them a lot, so I'm fine with going there. But....... Just, wtf?

Also, the bible contradicts itself too much for me. I agree that it seems as though people want religion because they grew up with it or because they need SOMETHING to believe in, for whatever reason.

Sorry for the longness.

I don't believe in organized religion, but that doesn't mean that I don't believe in God, I just don't choose to go to church. I think organized religion is full of hypocrites so why bother with them? If you're going to profess to be such a wonderful Christian, act like it all the time, not just in church.

I find frequently that people that stereotype all Christians into one type and then hate all of them are just as obnoxious and close-minded as those Christians that hate homosexuals, etc. There are millions of Christians. They aren't all exactly alike, go figure.

Well said.

I personally have recently decided that I don't believe - but I'm not going to look down on anyone else for believing (unless it really is a crutch or an excuse for hatred).

Lumping all people of anything - believes or non-believers - is ignorant and small minded.

Maybe I can understand up to a certain point that their religion can provide them comfort and hope in times of need. What I do understand is why some people act like believing in God and Jesus will solve their problems. I have had people come up to me, and tell them that simply giving my life to Jesus will make my issues go away. That suddenly all the issues that I have ever had will go away.

I am not talking about the, "Religion can help you."

I am talking about the, "PRAY TO GOD. YOUR PROBLEMS WILL DISAPPEAR."

People need to realize that there is more to fixing your life then praying at night that you will get better. Your problems will not just magically disappear because you believe in something. But yet some religious people seem to believe that.

And I do not get that.

Religion can help. But it does not make your problems go away. It simply gives you hope.

Disclainer: NOT ALL CHRISTIANS ARE LIKE THAT. But I have ran into some people like this in the past. The kind who feel like giving your life up to God is a miracle pill.

I don’t get the whole “religion is the answer to everything” thing personally. But if it really does help someone then go for it. People need something to put faith into and that’s the main reason why people put so much energy into religion. I hate when people try to shove that kind of stuff down my throat and expect me to follow what they think is right.

A true Christian who follows the bible, does in fact, hate homosexuals.

God says in the old testament that they should all die for their "crimes".

I'm sorry, but you can't follow just a peice of a religion. It should be the whole thing or nothing at all.

I don't hate homosexuals and don't believe in half the things in the bible. So when actually read the bible a few years back I quickly stopped being a Christian and became an agnostic.

The problem is, not enough people read their damn holy books, and so they don't know what they are actuall following.

  • My beliefs with religion are not typical. And the 'turn to Jesus' is a weird thing to be comfortable with, when you're not a believer. From my point of view, I think it's good that people can come together and help each other, with the help of Jesus. But at the same time, i think it's sends the wrong message that people are unable to help themselves.

  • Somehow, whenever people start talking full of passion about Jesus or God, I feel uncomfortable. Just because I don't really believe in it.
I do accept it, but yeah.. I feel uncomfortable.
I mean, hey. Who ever could pull a whole guy out of the ground? (I've read Genesis) It's just.. I don't know. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I've got lots of homework. D: I'm dying because of it.

  • Number one - Bullshit statistics.
Number two - I believe some people would find that form of treatment helpful, even if they were not religious before going. It seems to employ a similar technique to Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, etc.: replacement addicition. Instead of obsessing over mind-altering substances and food and using them to deal with stress and anxiety, people replace their destructive habits with religion. Religion itself is not the issue here. It's the concept of having a less unhealthy way of coping with life's issues. Rather than snorting a line, read a line from the bible. Rather than starving yourself, pray to God to end world hunger.

wow... that was strange and ^o^ hilarious

I'm atheist but I don't push it. I enjoy simpson episodes when they go all religious *snicker*

But, I would still go to sites like that because I've learned to ignore stuff like that. A lot of people are very religious and they outnumber me so I choose to just look at stuff like that, snicker, and move on.

what the sentence reminds me is how someone once said to me that the solution to all problems is cheese. I suspect that person who told me it is my guy friend who loves to shout 'Cheese!' whenever. ^o^

If the only way to get someone not to commit suicide is to tell them some one else doesn't want them to, I say they're better off dead. You have to live for yourself. To live for anyone else, even Jesus, is just so hollow.
