Funny, I can't remember who was talking about that in the purkle thread, but we tried to watch one of the older Disney cartoons the other day and I was so bored. Nemo is still my all time favorite.

  • I really liked Snow White. It was one of those ground breaking moments in the history of movies.

I think my favorite disney animated movie was Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella.

  • Hey there Shaggy.

The Lion King is really popular because it had someone die in it, and showed the emotional damage it can do to a child. lol. Very intense ideas they had floating around in it for a kids movie.

Dreamworks, while making animed films, are not always geared towards kids. Like eh, Shrek, which had some adult humor in it, and Prince of Egypt. I thought they did a really excellent job in that movie. The parting of the red sea looked awesome.

Finding Nemo is full of win. <3 Just keep swimming.. Just keep swimming..

Oh yea... Lion King had a lot of heavy stuff in it. I really wanted to see the Broadway show when I was in New York but I couldn't afford it. They had an off broadway production come through here but I was broke then too.

jelly, I'm going to burn a bunch of a movies and mail them to you.

  • They head a live performance of the lion king here, but I never went to see it. It was a good movie, but not good enough for me to go see it on stage. If I had kids of my own, I might have because I hear that it was excellent.

I do manage to go see Disney on ice every year though. My nieces just love that stuff. Kills my wallet though. They all have to get tiaras and light up wands that cost 20 dollars a piece. What a rip off.

    <edit>

Shaggy, my post wasn't all directed at you. lol. It looks that way now that you quoted it. I just said hello, and then continued my conversation about disney flicks.

  • Yeah, I remember the big fuss at the time about the 'death scene' in the Lion King. I've seen that clip on TV, it is pretty heart rending, but these big companies, they have a duty to deal with things like that in a way that can help kids understand, it's a big responsibility for animated film producers.

I love the 2 levels that a lot of the newer films run at, with humour for the grown-ups who are watching with their kids.As long as they get it right and it goes over the top of the kids' heads.

  • The Lion King was always wonderful to me, because even at a young age, I was irritated with the "princess seeks prince to live happily ever after with" plot lines. The Lion King was totally different than that, so much more gripping. Not only was there death, but the main character went through a crisis of self and strength, which I always responded well to.

Plus, the supporting characters? Rafiki, Timone and Pumba are totally the best!

I just looked up Elizabeth, and it looks pretty good.

  • I agree with Jelly. I like that they use humor that can appeal to adults so they are more motivated to watch the movies with the kids.

Finding Nemo was one of the best, along with Shrek. Heck, I watch those movies on my own. lol

Yeah, I love the undercurrent of adult humor.

I remember when I saw The Road to El Dorado in theaters with my dad. There is a part that alludes to a sex scene, which both of us caught onto, and it made my dad totally uncomfortable, while I though it was great. That still makes me laugh, to this day.

  • El Dorado was great. Kevin Klein was great in that movie. lol. That was another film made my DreamWorks, and little more geared towards teens and adults, thus the hint at sex.

Oh, I totally agree.

Not much of a fan of Woody Allen though. That's a fairly irrational bias though, which I might get over one of these days.

  • El Dorado was good fun. I think Elton John made the soundtrack, as well as the one for the Lion King (with Tim Rice), so I enjoyed the songs. I love musical animations.

Oh! Another of my favorites: The Emperor's New Groove.

I love that film to death!

  • David Spade was GREAT in that movie. I didn't really like it the first time, but the 2nd time I loved it. I think I've seen it like 10 times now.

(I totally feel like slapping a newbie on here. God, give me patience.)
