Taekwondo is actually what I learned and practiced. It helped with a lot of things besides just being able to win in a fight. My instructor wanted to make sure I learned to be less passive and that sometimes fighting back is the only way to make people leave you alone. I quit shortly before my black belt exams because of school. I also never really wanted to be a black belt, I had started to learn how to defend myself and I was at a point I was pleased with. The belt didn't mean much to me at that point because at the previous black belt examinations, I was asked to spar with the examinees to see how skilled they were. When I was able to hold my own against someone who made black belt (which is what happened), as well as those attempting to further their black belt level, I kind of felt that it was no longer necessary.

@ Nike - Getting a black belt means a lot to me, because that would prove to myself that I'm capable of accomplishing that task. I'm not sure why its so important to me now, but... I guess its just that one goal in life that shows I actually have a life.

Having the belt also lets you say proudly that you are a black belt, that no matter who you are talking to, they know what level of mastery you are at. I admit, I get tired of explaining what a black-red belt is >_>

My sarcasm in the real world, comes from being tormented in Grade Five.

@ Nike - xD Then comes the problem of explaining what a second-degree and third-degree and so on black belt is.

Yeah but by the time you say black belt, they get the general idea of things. Plus, I would hope that they would understand the higher the number the more training you've had >_>
