Well we rarely flood, as I say you can fit more than two cars down the banks before you hit our LARGE rivers (large rivers flood less than small ones), but you know, we have five rivers comming into a valley of 7 hills and only 1 going out and what with the flood in July I'm uneasy hearing about all the floods in the surrounding areas.

Yeah, on the same day I moved into my first place >_< It was crazy! I walked from the building I was studying in, ten minutes to the bus and I wear a thick coat and three jumpers. I was soaked through my underwear! The bus never showed, The wicker had been washed away so the busses all stopped, so i had to walk to my grammas, and wait for a parent.

The road to my moms house is missing completly! Swept down the cliff! Our sewer system is still victorian in places so it couldn't cope, then the rivers burst... then bedlam broke loose.

Yeah, the shopping centre has 4ft barriers that come out of the floor and protect it when the river gets too high... the water swept over them and into the shopping centre. Before they went up people were warned and told they should leave. A lot didn't. The barriers came up and cars started floating, the water swept through the shopping centre and all power went out. The generators in the city were flooded and entire boroughs blacked out. Within only a few hours we had 4ft of water on the ground and still rising! The entire shopping centre fled upstaires and when the helicopter came to rescue them they were sent away again. Even with all that water the centre was safe and the helicopter was sent to rescue people who needed it. All the shops mucked in, bedding, food and stuff were supplied even though noone had anywhere to go...

Flooding is very scary. o__o; Luckily where I live my house will never flood (I'm on top of a little hill), but it does flood a lot in my general area.

I have never been involved in a flood. Oh sure maybe some minor floods, but nothing that required rescue. I'd be scared out of my wits.

Yeah, well the way sheffield is built the valley is mainly buisnesses with a few homes, but the homes mainly go up the hills so although a lot of homes were damaged it was mainly buisnesses.

Oh within a week Meadowhall was mostly open again. Threw this big celebration. Celebrities and give aways and everything! The centres staff and all the staff still working for the shops all teamed together to help and... It warms my heart really when you see how well everyone coped with it. I mean we're all covered in defences so no one ever expected an actual flood and they just rallied.

Hello Everyone, how are you today?

*nod nod*Yeah. It was sad though. A 13 year old on his way home cut through a park...which holds a river... you can guess how that ended. A search for a body and a heartbreaking message for his parents. And a man got his foot caught in one of the drains and drwon. So it was pretty sad although it's amazing how it caught us so unawares and we had so little casualties.
