It was 1955...
Polianna and Mabel had been friends since their mothers were pregnant, they both started their life in the little town of Buñol in Spain in a poor area of town.
They both had gone to school together and were great friends.
Both girls played together in each other's house or even made their block a big playground that sometimes shared with other kids, but Polianna and Mabel were the oldest girls there with a difference of more or less 5 years so they always went away to play their own games together and didnt pay attention to the little ones much except when they wanted to play teachers or nurses and so they needed little students or patients to tend.
It was the beginning of the winter and Mabel's mother was working on a new dress for her daughter and another for Polianna, she considered both girls her daughters and loved them a lot, she bought the fabrics of different colors to make two lovely dresses for the girl's birthday which was in January very soon and she was sewing them in secret when they girls were at school.
They were both 12 becoming 13 and they felt they were so much adult misses and acted that way since last summer, they helped their moms at home, specially Mabel's mother since she was pregnant and needed a lot of help to keep the house and a small bakery she had with her husband.

Polianna's mother was a secretary she worked for an old bored company and her father was a clerk at a bank. They lived fine, they only had Polianna, they haver tried to have more children but they never came so they treasured her little Poli as a jewell.

Mabel had white skin, long black hair and hazel eyes....she was sweet and strong as her mother.
Poliana had blonde hair and blue eyes and freckles all over her face. Looked a bit like her dad and a bit like her mom, she was a little bit taller than Mabel but not for a lot of centimeters.

That day they were coming back from school ...

It was winter and they were both tired from school....they walked home and in the middle of the way Mabel asked Polianna if she would like to do something different and take a new way home that afternoon...
Polianna was adventurous so she inmediatley felt excited about her friend's idea.
Mabel walked till the southern part actually they would walk like 3 more blocks this way but it was funnier to explore this part of the city they had never seen in detail.
They went through the main street...everything looked poorer in that area, houses were grey and most of them were abandom specially a whole apartment block on Maple street, exactly where they were walking through...everything was so quiet, exept for some kids playing on the streets.
The saw the empty place...so empty so quiet ...
"Come on" said Mabel "Lets go up there and see what it looks like from inside"
"Ok " said Polianna following her friend but not really sure that was a good idea...
"Do you think it is ok? " she asked
"Of course nobody lives there anymore, the apartments are all abandomed now" said Mabel as she was climbing the fire stairs and trying to open the door of one of the apartments.
Nobody saw them, the kids probably thought they were playing.
They entered the apartment, it was all dark and dirty, there was nothing there but an old table and a dusty old sofa, probably the people didnt even want to keep those things when they moved.
The girls looked at everything around them.
"wow look at this place, it certainly need a cleaning" said Mabel
" Ok now lets go home ok? I dont want mom to feel worried" said Polianna, we can come back tomorrow and tell our moms we decided to take a new route back from school ok?"
As they both went out, Mabel closed the door carefully like she didnt want anyone to enter that apartment she started to consider hers for some reason....

When they got home none of them told about where they have been they just said they had discovered another route to come back near the southern part and they had decided to change it from now on....
Next day at school they started thinking on how exciting it would be to come back to the apartment, when the bell finally rang they both ran there feeling happy, even avoided some other classmates they normally hanged with ...maybe they wouldnt understand and they didnt want anyone to go tell their moms...
They made it till the building in no time....
"I think we could come back after class everyday to spend some time in here" said Mabel, wouldnt it be awesome to have our own place for secret meetings?
Polianna was excited and happy ..." of course, then we will have to think of an excuse to be late at home....we can always say we had been on eachother's house, your mom loves you spending time with us , you know that"
"yes", said Mabel and my mom trusts in yours and she will be happy if I spend time at your house after school, I still can help her in anything she may need when I finally get home, it wont be hard, we can do our homework here! she said with shining eyes of emotion..
"wow....imagine that...it would be like our own little place"
Saying that they came out of the apartment, today they had no excuse and needed to be back in time...they closed the door again and left the place...

Nice story Trin, Try making the "said"s into Whispered or stammered or Yelled, "Said" just makes it boring, cause if it goes like this;
Setting: Library
"Yes"She said
"Ok" He said

A day passed and the girls couldnt come back to their secret place because Mabel had a cold, she was ok but her mom made her stay at home so Polianna went to visit her, while in Mabel's room they planned how the next day would be...
"Ok , whispered Mabel, we need to take some food there to eat while we do our homework"
"I will ask mom for some cookies and i will tell her they are for somebody's birthday ok? " said Poly
"Alright...and I think we should clean the place a bit...btu I have a better idea for that I will tell you later" said Mabel.
They did their homework and drank some tea together, they were so excited they both dreamed about the meeting...as Mabel was better her mom agreed on her going to her friend's house after school....and as she had been ill, Polianna's mother agreed on her daughter to go visit her friend once more after school to give her the homework, plan was perfect.
They both went to sleep dreaming on how cool that would be the next day.

New day came and Mabel woke up early, she got dressed and before her mom could tell , she went to the kitchen and grabbed a packet of candles and some matches and put them on her school bag, then got a piece of cloth her mom used to clean and hid it too.
Then she went to school and met with Poly, she had brought the cookies, a carton of juice and some crackers, also an old table cloth her mom didnt remember about.
"that is so awesome Poly !! ok now lets hid everything in our bags till the end of classes, we dont want anyone to start asking questions right?" said Mabel.
"yeah of course" whispered Poly as they both went to the classroom.

both girls couldnt really wait tilll all the classes had ended, they were distracted, impatient and barely heard what any of the teacher were saying.
As soon as classes finished they both ran away from the crowd and took the way to the apartment building.
The afternoon was lovely and the sun was shining.
They got to the apartment in very little time, opened the door and felt at home, closed the door back after them so nobody will see them, they didnt want any adult to be there and questioned them about what were two young girls doing in such a place.
They took out her shoes and socks and started cleaning up a little the kitchen, the found an old broom in the patio and started cleaning up, it was so dirty everywhere.
then put the table cloth on the old table and brought some boxes to use as chairs.
They ate their food and did the homework there, it was so wonderful, they were so in love with their "secret place"
Days passed and whenever they could they repeated the lies so they could be there together, enjoying their secret and having a whole little place for themselves, they felt such a wonderful feeling of being adults and played games, little by little they took things from their houses and took them to their place, though everytime they left the place they took the precaution to hide everything on a cupboard, they didnt want anybody to pass by and see all they had in there...they were also very carefully at the time of leaving and entering the place, always watching around so no one could see them.

It was one of those afternoons that they noticed Carol, she was a tall thin older girl from the neiborhood, the oldest daughter of a large family, she was poor and she was used to be the mother of all her syblings since her mother was too obese to take care of them and her father had left them years ago. She was very mature but deep inside she wanted to live her teenage years just like all the other girl and have fun.
She was a very intelligent girl, top of her class but very shy, she considered herself ugly though she wasnt, her face was angular and thin, her dirty blonde hair was tied up on a pony tail and her nose was covered by freckles, but her blue saphire deep eyes were like two jewels in an ocean.
The first time Mabel saw her she was crossing the street walking to her house after buying some goods at the grocery store, Carol had looked at her but quickly kept walking...that was nothing, but when Mabel saw her for second time near the apartments she started to pay attention to the girl sure that she knew about them and started feeling a bit scared.

Time passed and none of the girl's mothers wondered if they were where they said or not, they had always been good and trustful daughter and so there was no reason for disbelief.
Weekend came and Mabel and Polianna only wanted to spend more time together at "their house " and play games and feel the adventure.
Mabel was the one with the idea, "I will ask mom to stay the night at your house and you will do the same, we will spend weekend at the apartment" she was so much excited!...
Polianna was always a bit shier than her friend....but after thinking about it for a little while she decided it was going to be a great adventure and agreed...
That night both girls asked for permission to sleep on eachother's houses

I'm writing my own story....but I'm too embarrased to preview it, you see, I'm kinda....over imaginative, you might call me creative, otherwise, you'd call me,smart.

mabel packed her books with the homework on her schoolbag, put her pajamas and a blanket on a camp bag she had for school trips and grabbed some crackers and cheese from the cupboard when mom wasnt looking, she had to be careful though nobody had to notice about the food, but in case her mom asked she would just said that she wanted to be polita and take something to her friend's house and not arrive with the empty hands, her mom would say she was a nice girl for thinking that way.
Meanwhile Polianna was being very lucky, her mom decided to make her a cake to take to her friend's house and gave it to her, she was so surprised, happy but in the very deep she was feeling so guilty.
The two girls met eachother after school as usual and went to the market to buy some fruit, a new packet of candles and two bottles of milk, we cannot drink the apartment's water i think it is cut, said Mabel.
"Oh you are always so smart" exclaimed Polianna smiling.
After that they walked the three blocks to the apartment.
We need to remember to go down the street and phone our moms before 8 o clock ok? both have asked us to phone and tell everything is fine right? said Mabel
"Of course " answered Poly
They entered the apartment and started the well known ritual of putting everything out, the table cloth the boxes and by this time they had two old plates and glasses, a knife from Poly's father and a lot of unused things they had found in their homes.
"I wish I could sew a pair of curtains , that would be so lovely" said Poly looking a the window...
" Yes I know I have been thinking of that too...thing is that we cant risk someone to see them and think there is somebody here" said Mabel worried about their safety.
"If someone find us, it will be over...think about it"
They did their homework and drank the milk, ate the cookies and cleaned the place the best they could, it was funny to see them so willing to clean it and so unwilling to help in their own house when their mothers asked them to clean their rooms, but of course there was no fun in cleaning their rooms, this was their "house".

aw, this is really good!
but...there not much plot going on after they find the apartment...but i'm guessing there'll be more, rite?
haha, i feel so close to the girls, i do this kind of stuff all the time
but i kinda feel bad for their mothers.
well, overall, it's good!
