So lately I have been feeling like writing a piece of steam punk (ish) and I haven’t had much inspiration. I need some help with getting my brain going. If anyone has any good writing help/good steam punk drabbles or ways to better organize plot and characters it would be really helpful. I will come back and add some ideas when I get home and can post more.

I think you're gonna have to explain what a steam punk is.

But for organizing plot some of the stuff I do is

Big Events

Just Events

So big events are events that HAVE to happen in order for the story to move along. Just events are the small little fillerish stuff that can go pretty much anywhere in the story.

Then from there, I put them all in order. I place the Big Events in order, then I add the Just events to the list spreading them out.

And that gives you more or less a basic frame of what you want in your story.

Same thing for Characters. Major Major Characters, Major Minor Characters, Minor Major Characters and Minor Minor Characters. (I'm pretty sure that there's no such thing as a Major Major Character, but that's just how I label it.)

Using Harry Potter as example
Major Major - your main character, story also focus on them. Harry Potter
Major Minor - You main characters, but story doesn't always focus on them. Hermione and Ron, Dumbledore
Minor Major - Characters that show up often in the story but don't play a HUGE role. Hagrid
Minor Minor - Characters that simple exist, play little to no part in the story and are just there to give a face. Fudge or the Nameless Death Eaters.

And of course after that you can give detail profiles to each character of yours. *nods*

You don't have to do it that why, but that's usually how I go and start plotting my stories.

Help for getting rid of writers block, at least my idea.

Calm down, forget about writing, grab a soda some ice cream and sit down and watch creative movies, and then sit down and read for the rest of the day.

After words I can never stop typing XD.

I love steampunk :D .

I tend to write based off of my characters, but it is different for everyone. If you are creating a society based off of steampunk, however, then you may want to start by developing that world a bit. What technologies do they have that are similar/different from our own? How do they dress, greet each other, interact? What are their customs? Why have they developed into a society that uses steam power, rather than a different source? What is the landscape/flora/fauna like, and what about the cities?

Spend some time exploring the world and the people who live there, and you may find a few characters from that world who are just itching to be written about.

As for plotting, you want to find an event that happens and forces your characters to act, change, and develop. From an evil dictator bent on taking over the world to the death of a loved one, there are many different ways of adding plot. You need to find what fits for your style, characters, and audience.

I use a program called StoryLine from Anthemion Writers' Cafe in my plot organizing. I guess using most spreadsheet programs will produce similar results. I plot the general storyline first before going over them in detail, periodically checking them for plot holes and whatnot. I imagine the actual events in my head (usually during showers or long journeys) and go through the conversation before I actually write the actual chapters.

Different people go about plotting their stories in different ways. Hope this reply help a little.
