During school, we're given a crap load of notes to write down, right?

How do you take yours? Or, if your out of school, how -did- you take your notes?

I personally like to use colorful pens. I'm attracted to color, so I have a bajillion different colored pens in my bag that I use and form color schemes with. xD;;<3

I tend to take crappy notes during class - or if I can keep up, I take better notes - and then re-write them later when I'm home and have a spare minute or two.

xD:;<3 If you took a look into my binders... you'd see a rainbow thing going on. xD;;<3 The color schemes help keep me organized and it allows me to tell the difference between one set of notes and another. xD;;<3

So discuss::
- How do you take your notes?
- Do you like writing in pen?
- Mechanical pencils or the old regular number two's?
- Or do you just not take notes at all? xD;;<3

In my history class, we're being forced to take Cornell notes.
He seriously checks our notes and knocks points off if they're not Cornell. Problem is; I HATE CORNELL NOTES! I think they're ugly and disorganized...
So whenever I take notes, I change the format to.. whatever it's called when it goes I, A, 1, a, etc... I think that looks much neater.
I don't get it! Why are we being graded on notes at all, much less the format of our notes?! They're our notes, aren't they? For our own personal usages? ...:X That makes me angry.

I like pen. Pencil smears. The only time I really use pencils is when I want to draw.
But when I draw, I always use mechanicals. I can't stand normal pencils because the tips get dull and then it's impossible to draw details.

Uggh. Cornell notes. -___-

In my AP Psychology class, the teacher made us get a booklet so we can take notes as we're reading. I -hate- that style of note taking too. D:~ xD;;

It's so...icky. xD;;<3 I hardly have enough room to write, and when I do, it gets very confusing trying to link the notes to the "important information." xD;;<3

horray for pen users! xD;;<3

I used to take notes in school not very good at all. I drew instead, I was terrible. I liked the old number 2 pencils personally, everytime I used the mechanical ones I found always got broken, the lead inside.

- I write the date and title of the lecture.

- I use the typical structure:

EXAMPLE:

MAIN TITLE

1) 1st aspect

a), b), c) ----> Sub-aspects

2) 2nd aspect

a), b), c) ----> Sub-aspects

So on and so forth...

-Consider writing in pencil, so that you can erase mistakes (if you don't want to have to re-write your notes that is)

OR when taking notes with a pen, I usually just jot everything down quickly. BUT, if I do this, I usually re-write my notes at the end of the day when I am supposed to be re-reading them, that way they really go into my head. (You "see", you "read" and you "write" all at once) XD

I hope this helps you!~

I take mine completely random. All over the page, and write short phrases. xD

  • I take notes with this Mechanical Pencil of mine (had it for ages), and I usually only write down important things - otherwise I can't keep up. For things that will be on a test or guaranteed, I have highlighters.

Ew. Me too!
For the pencil smears and cornell notes.
D:

And I also have a rainbow color of pens! I tend to not use it for quick notes, because i take too long. . .

I almost never follow the note-taking-format we are giving, I too love to use multicolored pens, I also like to highlight and underline important stuff.
We often HAVE to do cornell notes, I think they arn't very effective.

Ahh~ I'm a perfectionist (kinda. xD;; <3). I hate using short versions of words. xD;;<3 I tend to forget what those short versions mean after the class is over. xD:;<3

I always feel the need to copy -exactly- what the teacher gives us though. D:~ I feel that if I do things -my- way, I'm cutting my information short and I might need it later? xD;; Ahh ~<3

And yeah. @@;; I agree with everyone on the whole it's our notes thing. xD;;<3 If it's our notes, what does it matter if no one else can read it? xD;; <33

I either take my notes in pen or on my laptop. I ususally use only one colour, and everything has to be perfectly neat, straight, orderly, spelled out, and titled. I'm a neat freak about my notes.

  • I don't get marked on note taking .. that seems a bit weird actually.
    I'm at college in the UK and we have to take quite a lot of notes, but i'm pretty messy when i rush so if i don't like how it looks, i will re-write them. I did yesterday actually .. 2 pages worth of writing because i drew a picture and went over the lines too much and the pen leaked through a couple of pages >.<
    But if it doesn't look neat i have to rip it out of my book. And i usually use a lot of colours too.
    I find that it stimulates me to want to learn it and also it just makes it look pretty! YAY for colours. :DD

I used to write down exactly what the teacher/lecturer would say and if I did that, word for word, I didn't need to study it ever again as it would stick in my brain. For me, No notes = no learning. I have a really poor attention span, so if I just listen to someone talking to me, I tune out after a couple of minutes and by the time I remember "Oh! Someone's still talking to me" I have no clue what they're on about anymore, so end up just smiling and nodding until my mind wanders off again. If I took notes, that gave me something to do and by writing every word out in full I didn't have time to loose focus.
Worked for me, I got through high school and college without ever having to study for an exam. The only time I had to review notes was from times I was sick and missed a class. Usually other peoples note taking sucked, so looking at their notes didn't really help me at all >.<

Well, usually I just write down whatever.

One time, my teacher was talking about the cold war, and i wrote down, "WTF AMERICANS. HIDE UNDER YOUR CHAIRS."

xD no lie.

I write down the important stuff at the speed of light.
Usually, I don't even review them. And I do pretty well on my homework and tests. Go figure.
Normally, if I hear something, it's stuck in my brain forever. If I write it down, everything I write will definitely be stuck in there forever.

Oh my.
My notes are a total MESS.
I write them down so quickly that they're always illegible and usually missing a lot of vowels.
I still know what I'm talking about, but if you showed them to anyone else they'd take one look and go "...What. The. Fuck?!"
They're scattered all over my notebook, too. Heh.

I copy down whatever is on the professor's slideshow. But recently, I've been drawing stick figures in my American Civilizations class to help me remember things. Like this one, I drew an indentured servant that was saying "I'm an indentured servant and I'm mad as HELL!" because my professor actually said that and it made me giggle. Plus, we were talking about why indentured servants were being phased out in favor of slavery and how that pissed them off because they hardly ever got what they were promised. It actually helps me to remember things. And it turns my bad habit of doodling on my notes into a positive. ^_^

I don't really have a system set for taking notes, to tell you the truth. I just get a piece of paper with a pencil and I just take bulleted notes. Its so annoying when teachers try to make you take notes a certain way. Its frustrating for me and harder to understand.

I take notes ALL the time. Especially in chem and math. The moment I get into class I take out some paper, that way once my teacher starts lecturing I can take notes and copy down examples.

Also, when I read through my books I highlight and write margin notes - along with doing the practice problems. I Find by doing so I memorize the stuff better.

Well, I'm only in 7th grade, and we only take notes during History. I just write the subject and use dashes for other things. My teacher writes it like that on the board, so I just copy everything.

I dont take any notes reallah, just key words in my head, I know, sounds like I can forget em in an instant, but it actually helps me get a B or an A on a test : D

Ho, Im in 8th grade by the way. Not much to key word there, except for science, that is.

Well what I do is scribble notes on scrap paper then draw anime stetchs and word bubbles around them.
Normally the anime characters are from Yugioh, Beyblade and Naruto.
When I memorise them I say "Ok so Sakura said that and Yugi Said this..."
It's quite funny.
XD
