It's a real pain to get the good ending in CC, anyway.
I think the cast was just too large, so it was too hard to give most of the characters significant growth throughout the story. It's better, in my opinion, to have a handful of integral characters that are consistently involved in the story than to have a massive, gimmicky and largely irrelevant cast, like CC did. I read somewhere that the developers intended to put Magus in the game, but couldn't because the cast was too big already... Who abandons their beloved and important characters just to have stuff like anthropomorphic turnips?
Suikoden games deal with that problem well-- they have a huge cast but focus on a few important characters that you're forced to have in your party a lot. CC lets you bring along pretty much whoever, if I remember correctly.

I loved the game. I played it and beat it, then kept my saved game so I could do the fast forward and get all the good parts. It was such an amazing game.

I merged this thread with the older one about the same thing. The necro rules are pretty relaxed in this forum since it doesn't move very fast.

I loved these games. I was epically addicted to Linx. He made me so happy. I think he was my first exposure to a cat boy and I was as hooked as Linx would be on catnip. <3

I actually just went back to prehistoric times in my first ever Chrono Trigger playthrough (my loving wife got me the DS version for christmas and gave it to me early) and I'm pleased so far.
I really should've played this when I was a kid, but I played FFIII(6) instead. :)

Mmmmh~ 'm playing the game right now. Graphics are fantastic, my heart is singing, and I'm kicking major butt! I'm the happiest girl in the world. <3
Any other Chrono Cross fans?
How about Chrono Trigger? My brother loved CT more, and refused to enjoy CC because of it. Ugh. He spoils all the fun because of the silly morals he has. xD

The battle system in CC pissed me off, the whole element thing just bugged me. The story was not CT worthy and i really didnt enjoy it at all.
The graphics were nice and pretty for their time though.
Also the game had a veeeery nice music score. :3
But ... way too many chars considering the limited battle system. People played CT and wanted double and tripple techs flying everywhere and there was a meager handful of them in the entire game. I think that is what pissed players off the most. It didnt feel anything like CT.
So i guess in my own opinion I think it was a fun game. It would of been even better as a stand alone. Remove the CT reference and just take the game at what it was and you had a good RPG.
However as a CT sequel it failed in every way short of having the name "chrono" in it.
By the way this should of been posted in this thread. :3

I don't do subforums... =.=;
And... that... was just nasty. You didn't have to insult it so much by comparing it like that. If you compare things, one will sound shittier than the only in no time.
Compare FFVII to FFVIII; great games. One had better graphics, one had a better story, and they both have completely different, yet amazing battle systems (yet a lot of people hate FFVIII for it's strange system. I loved it.)
If you get caught up in comparing, nothing is fun anymore. I always dispised comparisons. (It's funny, really. Whenever somene compares me to something my face contorts and I start thinking very bad things about them. xD)
Why the fuck...?
If you mods don't start explaining why everything I do ends up in SOMEONE ELSES'S thread...
This is the second time now. AT LEAST WARN ME! OR INFORM ME!

But is that not what you are supposed to do? is that not what a sequel is all about? They are not trying to make a brand spanking new game ...
They are saying "Hey! you liked the other one right? then play this one its the next part of the series!" It's silly to think you should not compare a game with its previous entry if its next in the line thats just common sense.. I mean im guessing your brother bought CC if he already had CT.
Odds are he bought it ONLY because it was a sequel to CT. I know i only bought my copy of CC because of that fact.
If you ask me ... and this is just my opinion ... I think CC was fully developed and square just told the developing team to slap a few CT references to it and change the name so it would sell better.
Again this is just my personal theory on that. Regardless if companies do not want a game compared to its previous installments then do not give it the name of the previous games. I mean i fully agree with your example of FFVIII I thought it was a damn good game but most people blam it compared to VII. buuuut ... it was a sequel so the door for comparison is open.

You know manga? Anime? Great things. Take a manga and make it into and anime, then try and end it way too early and make up your own ending or your own story (such as with Pokemon and Trigun) and well... they both will be great individually, but only one would be good if you try to compare them.
