Title: My Adventures as a Female Pirate

Vic's life was getting sort of out of hand. As she sat at one of her mother's famous tea parties, she thought things over. Not only was she not married, she was still stuck in this house and under her parents orders. Had she, like most normal 15 year olds, been married and in her own house, she wouldn't be dragged to these parties. Do you want to know why Vic's life was one of the unmarried sort? They had tried to marry her off, but either something was terribly, terribly wrong with her appearance, or she just turned off men naturally. Already FIVE men had come within her reach, and she'd let them slip away. Bad luck? Bad timing? Bad everything?
Well, not all of it was her fault. Three of the five had simply died. The other two mysteriously disappeared (Vic knew that they eloped, but she kept her mouth shut).
"You knoooow..." Mrs. Nimme said in that annoying way of hers. " That lad down the street would be sooo perfect for young Victoria here!"
"What's his name... Charlie! Yes, yes, Charlie, he would be a fine catch, that one." Mrs. Pinnfield adds.
"I'm sure he wouldn't be interested in me," Vic quickly said, but the damage had already been done. The ladies were all trying to top each other off with stories of what they had done or seen that had to do with Charlie. They also seemed to be trying to out-loud each other too. They were so far exceeding in that particular thing.
Vic glanced around to find her escape exits, just in case. She focused her eyes, which had become slightly blurry because of the fat hens poking and jabbing her. "Okay," Vic thought to herself. "So there's two doors leading out of the parlor, one on either side. If I go through the one on my left, I'll..."
Vic's thoughts were interuppted when her mother stood up and squealed, "Okay, it's settled! Victoria, William and I will meet the Fray family tomorrow night to discuss possible engagements!" The other hens exclaimed their approval, and Vic was left to absorb the news. The only thought that came to her mind was:
"But who will warn Charlie?"

All Vic's life has been devoted to four things:
1. Avoiding her mother's tea parties as much as possible (which tends not to work)
2. Finding the right guy (guys: 5; Vic: 0)
3. Sailing (she obviously hadn't done it before, but she wanted to)
4. Horses
Vic had been taught by the stableboy's father, Damien, at six years old. Although it was tradition and basically law that women ride sidesaddle, Damien secretly taught her to ride astride too. Jaimy, Damien's son, had been taught with her as well, so now they were riding partners and best friends. Vic wouldn't have it any other way.
When Vic came out of the house and marched over to the stables, Jaimy came over to her. (whoops, could he see the steam coming out of her ears?)
"What's the matter?"
"You seriously want to know?"
"Nah, I just felt like asking. I have no interest in it whatever though." He smiled that devilish grin of his. "I thought if I ignored you, you'd get even more angry." (so he could see the steam...)
"My mom wants me to marry some other random guy now." Jaimy laughed. "It's not funny! I just want the mother marrying-off madness to end!" Jaimy seemed to realize how much it upset her and he stopped, but he kept the grin.
"So what are you gonna do about it?"
"I don't know... maybe I'll run away and join the crew of some ship." Vic cocked her head to one side and waited for Jaimy's sarcastic response. He always had one.
"Oh, they'll really let some girl," (hard emphasis on 'girl'), "sail on a ship. Here's your tea, madam. Here, let me get your coat, mam. Oh, don't go there, you'll get wet, miss." Jaimy also wanted to go off sailing. One of the many things that had brought them closer in friendship.
"Shut up! You're just upset because if I got out to sea, you won't have anyone to make fun of!"
"Yeah, right." Jaimy rolled his eyes and looked away, thinking whether or not that was the only reason he didn't want her to leave.
After hours of riding with Jaimy, Vic went inside to face her doom.
"Go upstairs RIGHT NOW and change, young lady! If you think for ONE MINUTE that you're not coming to the Frays, FORGET IT!" And with that, Vic's mother turned on her heel and went out the door.
Vic drearily dragged herself up the stairs and fell down onto her bed.
It was going to be a long night.

Guys: 6; Victoria: 0
Charlie Fray might as well not even exist according to Vic. He was off at sea! The ladies at the tea parties may think that Vic would be the type of girl to wait around for some guy, but that was NOT the case.
"But darling! You would be so CUTE together!"
"Mother, you haven't even MET HIM!"
Vic's mother looked abashed. "Well, yes, but, but, but PLEEASE! Victoria, you'll never get married." Vic's mother crossed her arms over her chest and sat pouting. (who was the child and who was the adult here?
"Mom..." Vic moaned as she flopped back on her bed. "What if I don't like him? What if he's a total creep?"
"Well, of course he wouldn't be. Don't be silly, dear." (How her mother knew these things, Vic would never know) By now Vic had completely tuned her mother out. She really needed to get out of this hellhole. But where would she go?
"...But if you insist on not wanting to get married..." She would preferably go on a ship, like Charlie, but how? Even though she hated to admit it, Jaimy was right. They would laugh at the very thought of a girl sailing. But what if...
"...I mean, it's not like I want you to..." What if she pretended to be a guy? It was such a stretch that Vic had to do a double take in her mind. Vic had her suspicions that Jaimy wanted to be a sailor too. The could run away together! Not that kind of run away, but they could go join a british war ship or something.
"Are you even listening to me!?" Vic was startled out of her thoughts by her mother's voice.
"No..." she mumbled. "I mean, yes." Vic's mother glared at her.
"Victoria," her mother sat down next to Vic. "Victoria, you need to grow up. You can't go on like this forever, prancing around unmarried and going horseback-riding with Jaimy. Yes, I knew!" Vic had thought so far that her mother knew nothing that went on in her life. She quickly wiped the surprised look off her face.
"Mom... what do you think of Jaimy?" Vic quickly clasped her hand over her mouth. Why the hell had she she said that!? It all just came spilling out!!
Mrs. Lanton was stunned into silence. DAMN DAMN DAMN, Vic thought. Although she didn't realize it, she still had her hand over her mouth. Finally, after what had seemed like hours, Vic's mother shook her head and said, "What? Jaimy's just a stableboy. You said Jaimy right?"
"Uhh...no..." THINK FAST VIC!, she thought.
"I'm quite sure you did, honey." Vic's mom shook her head as if she could sake what Vic had said back to her ear.
"...No, I said JamES..." Vic spoke slowly, still coming up with a story.
"I'm afraid I son;t know of a... a James."
"Uh, you wouldn't. He's, he's a... blacksmith's apprentice, over... there..."
"Be more specific Victoria."
"Uh... over in the next town. I went there and met him one day. I shouldn't have said anything because obviously you don't know him." Vic's lying skills needed improvement. Luckily for her, Mrs. Lanton was pretty dimwitted.
"Oh. What a shame." Her mother looked distant for a second, then returned with a cheery disposition.
"Yeah... what a shame.." Had Vic's mouth's concious told her something she hadn't wanted to admit? Now she had two things to ponder about. What else could be thrown at her?
