Once you get the vowels down the rest comes easy. A great way to help learn is to watch a lot of anime. Thats how I started out anyway. ^^

Dubbed anime is always edited so it's not the actual show it's what the american's think is best to show.

I always watch with subtitles, so I know what you mean. I think I may try watching them in Japanese from now on

Some schools believe it's to complicated for students at a high school level to understand. but some do offer it. The only hard part of japanese is the writing to me. Its all diffrent symbols and stuff so it's hard to understand.

Yes, very good point. The writing would drive people crazy.

They could just teach the speaking part in the first year and maybe touch on the writing a bit but they wouldn't have to get right into it. They could save that for seconed or third year students taking the course.
