Do you mind seeing pictures of others in their sigs?
Are more willing or less to talk to them if they are beautiful/ugly?
Does it bother you/Do you think it's lame;tacky?

It somewhat bothers me because it just reminds me of attention seeking whores from a certain website.

Not saying that everyone who has pictures of themselves in their sigs are this.
I think it's a bit selfish and immature to do it when you're trying to get more attention.

If you're doing it to show what you look like to you're friends then go ahead. I'm not bashing on you so don't bitch to me. >.O

I've seen a kid who had a picture in his sig who got completely ignored by everyone because he was ugly. And yes, he was ugly. (I don't have any proof since this happened awhile ago.)

But oh well, whoever just wants to get a small ego boost from some kid saying "OMG Ur so Hawttt!"
Then sure go ahead.
I haven't seen a single good looking person on here who posted their picture yet.
(In my opinion.)

I wouldn't say people having pictures in their signatures of themselves bothers me, but I do feel it's a bit "MySpace-y".

I remember being told by a friend of a friend that they knew someone who would put a fake picture of a really attractive girl in his signature (with a female avatar), pretend to be a girl, seduce guys, and all kinds of other things to get attention. Not to mention pixels. I'll leave it at that as it's not someone I know personally, but I doubt anyone would be really surprised. This IS the Internet.

I don't mind it when people put their pictures on their signatures, provided it's not for attention or as a means of lying to get something. x___x That's the only time it really bugs me.

I think it's a bit tacky to be honest. Why do you want everyone to see your picture? I mean I've put my photo in the photobook once if people really need to see what I look like and I'll PM people who ask, but who needs the aggro of being judged by your looks? You get that enough offline!

There's only one person I have ever been pleased by their signature photo with and she's a CM. Simply because I'm curious as to who all the CMs are. No idea why. But yeah I kinda judge people with their photos on their sinatures without meaning to because of what I've done all my life. It's trained me to study how people look and draw conclusion from that (acting and moddelling) So you know it does effect how some people ee you. You should only give your photo out when people ask if you like them. But that's just my oppinion.

Jayms made me think of something.

When I said "MySpace-y", I meant the photographs that seem to line most teenagers' profiles, where they've snapped several photos of themselves in several positions with their own camera in a mirror, then labored a while to add special effects, etc. To me I think it says, "hey lookit me, over here, oi oi oi!"

I usually have a pic in my sig.
When I do, it's to show my editing skills.
I love using my imagination with photoshop.

The picture that are super-bright or obviously edited bother me.

I haven't seen any particularly pretty pictures either. Just people tilting their faces in odd angles they find flattering in the mistaken hope it will make them look attractive. Meh.
It bothers me to hear the wave of false compliments. The "you are so pretty"s when they really aren't at all. I guess it's just the area I live in. Most people are pretty. It's superficial and altered by "the best clothes", gobs of makeup, hair that looks sculpted, and of course the occasional plastic surgery. (ick) I don't care if people aren't that pretty reallY as long as they are clean and take care of their bodies. I'm not into superfical beauty, an interesting personality is more appealing any day, but I tend to be extra- critical of pictures posts online. It seems like blatant attention-seeking to me.

If it's someone like a CM however, I feel completely different. It's neat to see what the people who run the site look like.

T'is true. Photos I show are like those on my webpage. either professional or at the very least from formal situations. My latest photo was one from JJBs dedication. I hate photos taken at arms length and photos of you and your friends going nuts are best left for you and your friends.

I admit, when I started seeing quite a few pictures
in sigs on this site, I felt a sense of dread. xD
I stopped going to the GD on Gaia because everybody had
pictures of themselves in their sigs.

Not that anyone is ugly and stuff, I just don't really
want to see your photoshopped face every time I post
something on an avatar site.

Unfortunatly I have. It is very irritating. I want to get a pen and scratch it up. Sorry no offense to lightswitch but it is so badly done! I like nice photos. Not armslength, bad lighting, crazy photos! I still have yet to look past how bad it is to see what ligghtswitch actually looks like.

I don't really mind; after all, they're only doing it to hide the fact they're devoid of personality.

If anything it's an obvious flag of who not to waste my time on, rather than having to engage in something useless like pleasant conversation first.

Sometimes, a person's photo is well done, in which case I don't mind it. But that's how I feel about all signature content. If it's well done, it catches my attention and I enjoy it, and if not, I skim over it and pretend it's not there.

Sometimes I wish the signature size rules would change, because tall signatures irritate me. They put so much distance between posts. Since the forums got wider, I think it would be nice if we had shorter, wider signatures.

I'm getting somewhat off topic though. Sometimes the pictures people post of themselves are super tacky and attention seeking. Sometimes they're not. I evaluate them case by case. It's neat to see who is behind the avatar, how people look in comparison to their avatar. Sometimes I feel irritated with how a person's picture effects how I think about them, but the same thing happens with people's avatars, so it's not much different.

i dont rlly care about someones siggy, my only consists of icons, one of which i made and the words blink [[theyre not supposed to xD ]] but i dont put a pic of myself in it. if someone else has a pic of themselves, big whoop. i could rlly care less. if theyre hott/pretty, great. if theyre ugly, i could rlly care less. i talk to everyone :] i agree with one of the previous posts, the pic is a bit "myspace~y"... soo yeahh. most people prlly only put pics of themselves b/c they kno they look good and then people will wanna talk to them = theyre just a bit ego~crazy.

I don't really pay much attention to peoples signatures. Pictures don't bother me because of what they look like, it's just when tons of people have them it takes longer for pages to load for those of us on dial-up.
I don't tend to talk to people because of their looks. It's more about what they have (or don't have) to say really.

I mostly look at the pictures in the siggy. But it doesn't stop me from talking to them. You have to like them of what they are :] not of how they look. I hate pictures that move alot or have serious no sense .____.

Omfg, i would so ran up to that kid and hug him ._. cause i feel like it. But yeah, that they ignore him is pretty sad. Though sometimes its better if you have a picture in your sig, then you know who you talking to.
or something like that

I don't mind pictures of people in sigs (especially since i have my wedding pic in my sig on Gaia). But what does disturb me is when the person is looking straight at the camera. Sometimes seeing the same person staring at me over and over again is agitating especially when they post a lot.

Also pictures that are done in poor taste bug me. I don't want to see some skinny little 12 year old boy shirtless staring at me. Its gross, you're pale, and when I'm on at work I'm always worried at what my co-workers may see.</3

Sure I judge people that post narcissistic pictures of themselves in their signatures, but not on their looks. I consider it a cry for attention that I will promptly ignore.

In most cases it's the 'oh-oh-oh look down my cleavage' girl, or the 'look at my skinny hairless chest' boy. Then you have the 'let me slip on my Halloween mask of makeup and show you how tortured my soul really is' crowd, mostly girls but not always.

We're on the internet. The world of 1's and 0's, the one place where we should all get beyond the ignorant concept that someone else's perception of you is actually holds any weight in the big scheme of things. The internet is the place were strong connections can be made when these things are left behind and we move on to higher ideals for ourselves and others. It doesn't matter what your age, or weight, or skin color, or even how bad your haircut might be.

Though I love socializing on the internet (hell all my closest friends are over the 'net) social network tools such as MySpace profiles and YouTube video blogs and the like are now mainstream and it's perpetuating the 'Hey I'm cuter than you, come gawk at me, come love me for my looks alone' garbage.

Your words should speak for you. Not a photo you took, a photo you think makes you look the way you want others to see you.

If you're a geek it'll be obvious in the topics of conversation you join and how you carry your end of the conversation; same goes for the princesses, the boitois, the gamers, the bookworms, the stoners, the preps, etc, etc, etc.

Wow, I went on more of a rant than I intended when I started this, heh. But this is a sensitive topic for me. I've been on the internet for more than 10 years now and in that time it's changed, a LOT. Some of it good, a good portion of it not. This being one of the 'not for the better' changes.

People with photos of themselves in their signatures .. i doesn't bother me that much..UNLESS! it's a really slutty looking one, now thats attention seeking.

Did that "ugly" guy know that was being ignored because of his "ugliness" How can people be so mean and vain? But yeah the picture could have been someone else.

It doesn't effect me on whether or not to talk to them in the least.
._.

I don't even think about it.
I enjoy seeing the faces of my fellow menewshans.

Its fun to match their face up with their personality.

Now to questions.
Do you mind seeing pictures of others in their sigs?
-Not at all.
Are more willing or less to talk to them if they are beautiful/ugly?
Nope. Doesn't cross my mind.
Does it bother you/Do you think it's lame;tacky?
-If its one of those angled, squinty kissy-lipped, half naked shots, I may perhaps give a cringe...

I dunno.. I certainly never used to but I liked this picture that I have and I had meant to edit it out a little after. It's from my vacation and people asked for pics, since this is one of the best I made it easier for myself. But yeah...

I myself don't exclude anyone whether they're 'ugly/beautiful' seriously... some of the ugliest people are actually the ones that are beautiful on the outside.

I don't do it for attention, I just think it looks nice and I want something to take up sig space... So far I haven't gone on a quest to find another yet. ^^

I hate having an empty sig.

If they're just putting a signature in their signature so you know what they look like, I don't mind. But if they're obviously trying to get compliments, then it does make me think less of the people, and get annoyed. (like putting "Fangirls: 11 Fanboys: 5" below their pictures. Or "Am I hot?" Ugh.)
It's also bugs me when the person is RIGHT up in the camera, and staring right at it. It makes me uncomfortable. Also if the person is trying to be "sexy" or something.

So as long as not everyone's doing it, I don't mind.
And no, I wouldn't ignore or treat differently a person because they're "ugly" o.O Nor would I do such if they were "pretty". Though I can generally tell if I'd get along with them or if they'd bug me based on their signature. It just depends on their attitude, y'know? If they have this "omg i r hot" or "duz this mak me look emo enuff, cuz dats c00l" look, yeah, I may dislike them a little more (more on the first one). But in an "I hate you, I shall ignore you and be rude to you" way, just more in a "you're sort of vain, huh?" way. And I wouldn't express this to them, that'd just be rude.

I kind of like to see what the people I talk to look like. Not that I would judge them because of it, it's just cool to see if the personality matches the face...Not sure that makes sense but that's basically my thoughts on it. Although I hate seeing pictures taken from slutty angles and I think it's already been mentioned here, but it kills my eyes when I see someone's picture where they have "attempted" to photoshop it etc. I want to see more NATURAL photos, which isn't of a person taking a picture of themself, but someone else taking the picture of them acting normal.

  • It doesn’t bother me in the least. I talk to people for WHO they are, not what they look like. Nor do I find pics in sigs tacky for the most part. The only time I think it’s tacky or stupid is when I see a pic then by it “PM me to be a fan boy/girl” or “Donate if u think I r hot.”.
