Most of the threads here have simple questions like "Do you like _____" or "_____ happened to me", in which users would reply with "Yes, I like _____ because" or "_____ happened to me. Here's my story!" The replies would have no relation to the previous users' posts, aside for the topic of the thread.

So my question to you, Menewshans, would be.. is Menewsha's General Discussion just a glorified survey? Do users spend most of their time in General Discussion writing their own individual stories then leave the thread? What can we do to raise thread-neglection awareness?

I think it really depends on a thread..
if somebody asks you "what's your favorite food" I don't think that will have as much discussion as questions on.. political or religious stuff x)

exactly what sagitar says. The examples you gave you cant anwer different than yes/no, my story. We could reply to the person above you but if we would do that it would be more a "chat" post. Which discussions not are. Though, discussions look alot like chatting but with more arguing. I dont know :\ it makes my brain turn spagetti.

@Sagitar: Well that brings me to another point. Should simple question threads like that be allowed in General Discussion? Do they really provide ample discussion?

@EnmaMisery: My examples aren't meant to be specifics. I'm not talking about just threads with questions verbatim to the example ones.

Hello I think this is a great topic to discuss.
I am the kind of person that does that kind of survey topics sometimes, some others are more discussion based, but even the survey type, I dont know about the other people (it is true most of them just leave after doing the topic) but I come back once done to see the people's answers because I always like my topics and I write them with the interest on seeing what the people thinks or does because Im curious or sometimes as a help for my career. So I DO come back and have a look and even state my opinion on what some people wrote (though normally people has already gone so nobody seem to care what my feedback is)
I know some topics are a bit silly here at the General discussion, but some others are very interesting and yes even the kind of survey ones, people should come back and keep discussing it and see what others wrote.
Thanks

Mmmm...I'm guilty of doing that. I'm trying not to! But I just forget or get preoccupied with something else :(
I really do wanna find a place where I can hang out and chat.

@trinitydoll: I agree, I think people should check back into the thread every once and a while. If you're going to write something in that thread, then you should commit yourself to it :] Not just survey yourself around to get easy gold..

Uzura: The Menewsha Nationis a forum dedicated to hangout/chat threads :]

Eh, I guess I can go there. It's just a lot of conversations in the GD could be really interesting people just hung out discussed it a bit more.

@Uzura: Mm'hmm :] I propose we form some sort of group that whips people into action (I mean that quite literally. We should have whips). We'll police people into going back to their topics. After all, I believe that survey posting is just an indirect way to cheaply gain gold.

I usally check back all my posts but if in the threads that look like "what is your fav..." none replays I can't do much but leave.
Even more I was surprised how some debates died out here since most of the people replying it it agreed about the thing in debate.

@Uzura: Yes, whips would be nice. *coughs* Next contribution item, perhaps? *coughs*

@Noyin: Actual discussion thread to tend to die out faster, and what's left are the "What's your fav..." threads that user after user post in, and no user tends to post twice. What does that tell us about General Discussion? D:

When there are "whats is.." i dont come back. Those are indeed just question leave, but when they are real discussions like this, i look back to see their comments and probably reply them.

that there is still not much discution culture, yet. or we just somehow a very similar population group with much similar views on few topics that have been opened in GD.

In a way, yes it is. People love talking about themselves, and they love hearing about other people.

But if you really look at it, isn't all of life just a survey? At least the human interaction's parts, anyway.

Not all the threads are like that.
Though that really is the just of a basic discussion.

Its not just a group of 'surveys.'
I don't see it that way...

I would agree with this its basic debate but still does not fell like surveys.

A reasond for all this surveys could be that the community just expended a lot in a very short time and havent yet normalized. That would be my guess.

Anyway I would give it time and not that much criticizem.

I personally think the GC is a place for you to make a statement or to ask a question that people can create a in depth discussion or conversation with it.

I wish we could post more than one kind of thread so that there is more variety. If someone made a coffee thread, then you can't, you have to post on theirs.

<<

But oh well.
I guess it's due to the NO SPAM tolerance thing.

Well, we may stick to the threads topics if it were not for the fact we are too busy making our posts as long as possible so we can get the maximum amount of gold.
I could start rambling in on this story about what I think is happening with Mene General Discussion, but then again, that is what you are kinda preaching against.

It does seem that the General Discussion is turning into the General Answer My Question Quickly Forum.

Hopefully it will metamorphose back. :3

I have noticed that too, very few people pay attention to what anyone except the creator of the thread has said. It makes me sad when I post, cause I wonder if anyone is going to read it.

I was on Menewsha months ago, and it was still like this. I don't necessarily think that it's just the result of the past hectic few weeks.

Yeah, for the most part, I'd have to agree...I don't see any real "discussion" going in here 80% of the time. I think a lot of people treat it as a place to ramble on, collect their gold, and go...which further supports my argument for a modified chatterbox (I'd still ban bumping and spamming, but what the hell is wrong with chattering anyway?) so we can move out the people who really could care less about carrying on a discussion (and yes, I can often be guilty of this myself). People are going to find a way to abuse the system and fill up their virtual wallets no matter what, so why not at least try to quarantine it a bit?
