My favorite piece in the series is definitely FF9. The poor thing gets such little attention compared to 7, 8, and 10-beyond, when for me it was filled with all of the things that I loved in the original Final Fantasies--strange and unique clothing designs, fantastic locations that didn't take themselves over-seriously, sweet and clumsy relationships, and just pure fantasy all throughout.

Also, Tactics Advance was one I really loved for its storyline. As unusual a tack as it was for a video game to take, it clearly pointed out that you simply cannot allow yourself to become fully enamored with video games to the point where you like them more than the rest of your life. We may want to spend more time with Final Fantasy than with school, the jerks we meet there, our jobs, and our families, but life is not just about escapism--it's about growing and learning and experiencing through things we don't like, or have to deal with, as well. The game was a lesson in responsibility and maturity, as well as fantasy and relationships.

Furthermore, there was no overt THESE TWO ARE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER AND WILL ALWAYS BE IN EACH OTHERS' HEARTS that a lot of FF games tend to really overdose on. I'm all for a romance story, but when it's the same "FATE HAS BROUGHT US TOGETHER AND WE WILL LIVE FOREVER WITH EACH OTHER IN PERFECT HARMONY WITH MAYBE ONE VERY BRIEF FROWN NOW AND THEN" it starts getting cookie-cut. In Tactics, what love there was--if you squinted--was very natural, and prone to the bumps we all hit in life.

Plus Ezel Berbier rocked. He's definitely my favorite FF character of all time.

I loved final fantasy. To me the story was great and each one that I picked up was not a regret.
Until it came around to FF being released on the Playstation 2.
In my opinion I played only FFX-2 (is that it? with the three girls only?) and it was plain horrible! First that I didn't really know the chracters personalities but it just seemed weak to me as well. Another thing is the dancing thing was just weird and the costumes were OK. The story.....was a laugh. I mean I didn't play the whole thing but normally I get hooked on Final Fantasy games but this one....didn't even catch me. The futhest I got was with the mountains and running from something.....or something.
But that was all and I traded it in at Gamestop.
The other thing was the game released after that. I can't recall with Final Fantasy it was but it was with this boy and someones brother gets killed? Well the fighting style was so diffrent from the normaly Final Fantasy game it just bothered me. (Rather irritated me.) I mean the fighting wasn't good at all. I thought it was bad b/c it was a hit and then run thing. I couldn't really block or something....I guess I just didn't like the battle. And well I quit on that game as well sadly.

I have yet to try others like Dirge of Ceberus or the latest Final Fantasy games although they too do look interesting.

Ok prepare for a post you reallly don't wanna read for length of it ...though it may be short i dunno lets see!

i have played every final fantasy i nthe main series Excluding XI.i have also played DoC and Tactics advance which were pretty cool

I liked them all alot but my faves are ffIV and ffVIII
so heres my take on each of the games

FFI: i like this final fantasy because of how the job system was done. unlike in other final fantasy's in this game you choose your four characters paths (the warriors of light) and depending on what you choose they would develop later on (compliments of bahamut!). What drags this game down though is the lack of summons which wasn't cool XP

FFII: the way this game was done was absolutely ingenious! basicly in FFII you didn't level up at all but you irectly control your characters stat growths yourself!
For example say i want Maria who is usually set up to followa mage stat growth!.to be a warior all ineed to do is dual wield her with two axes swords lance ect and have her pummel a few monsters in doing this her magic stat rates slow and her physical stats increase. absolutely Genious!

FFIII:uhhm lets see O_o i liked thisgame but not as much as the other games its story was a bit lacking and all and ihated how you had to mini yourself for certain dungions it was annoying! the characters werent that memorable either its not anff i liked that much

FFIV:My second favorite FF game in the bunch! ffIV had the coolest final fantasy characters of all time Hands down!and the cid in this one had an EPIC beard xD Cecil is possably the best main character in final fantasy history i think in terms of coolness though he loses out to cloud in depth and Squalls sexyness xD
this is also when the ATB system was first used =/ purely epic!

FFV: this game is so freaking hard xD the jb system was great in it though but the story seemed to be repeating itself quite alot in it saddly low on my list

i am gonna make the rest short and sweet htis post is getting a little to big i think

FFVI: Terra rocked! xD and the magika was cool in it andlets not forget setzer this one is 5th on my list of ff faves XD

FFVII: if you have not played this game yet GET IT you are missing the game of a life time though it isn't my fave game in the ff series the story is by far the best of the very best not to mention my second favorite ff chaacter Yuffie is in it xP

FFVIII: my favorite final fantasy hands down why? the story and scale the gf's the junction everything in this game for someone woh understands it all is epic! ignore all ctritism of the junction system as it is not truue if you are smart enough to understand that is and then theres Irvine could there be any more win??

FFIX: better then i expected i liked how you learned skills in it but i got stuck while trying to escape kujas hide out on the third disc and stopped playing xD still an awesome game

FFX:Blitsball!!! you know what i liked in this game? active party switching I didn't really like tidus's attitude i like the dark badasses like cecil squall and cloud more xD however riku yuna and auron are awesome

FFX-2:Don't bother if you see this game for 3$ somewhere then you might wanna consider getting it any more and no deal its trash xD

FFXII: just seemed like it was ripping off star wars seriously Young here (vaan/luke) old mentor(basche/obiwan) smuggler pilot (balthier/han-solo) and the smugglers half human half animal sidekick (fran/chewie) then theres the princess in need of saving who is actually a warrior (Ashe/Leia)
theres also the whole leader who you think you can trust (ondor/that cloud city dude can't remember his name) who turns you into the simelerly named "Empire" and later turning on them to help you xD so yeah ffXII = same story as sstarwars seriously xD

thats my epicly long review officially over

@everyone throwing FFX-2 away as trash:
Did you even bother to get 100% completion and the complete and secret endings? The game may have had several flaws, but the story was actually pretty nice when it was all said and done. Plus the dressphere system was nice in a quirky kinda way, though it could've been implemented better.

I'm not saying it was a spectacular game, but it wasn't really the trash that everyone says it is. It was blatant fanservice, but it also fleshed out the story of Spira and finished the Tidus/Yuna love story.

I agree with kinmotsu, i played it through and got the 100% as well. X-2 did wonders with the story line of the first game and fan service aside it was kind of cool being able to change your job class in the middle of battle like that.

Speaking of FF i just finally beat crisis core today, i dont know if i really want to put the time and effort into getting all the uber stuff and beating minerva or just putting it down and getting back to etrian odyssey.

Mm I've played: FF III (LOL on DS: it's really stupid, in my opinion.), FF IV (GBA), FF VI (GBA), FF VIII, FF IX, FF X, FF X-2 (currently playing - I also agree, that it's a bit strange. o_o), FF XII and FF XII - Reverent (sp?) Wings and FF Tactics Advance.

I havent finished most of them - but I'd say I liked FF XII and VIII was pretty awesome. Then maybe FF X. :D And.. FF X-2 ~ what happened to Yuna?! D: In skimpy clothes and stuff and random jobs just songstess. 'Dark Dance'. Etc...it was kind of strange. The plot's good otherwise.

I personally think that the Dressphere system would've been complemented nicely by the CTB battle of FFX rather than switching to ATB and then adding another layer of complexity instead.

How come Square Enix is always making remakes of their games?I mean, I understand everything perfectly in the original plot. Now,you got to bring in this brand new character that I didn't know existed and have me play as that character.I don't wanna do that. That mixes me up sometimes and I hate it.

Do you mean sequels like Final Fantasy II and so on or the "sequels" like X-2 or Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories? I personally like the stuff Square Enix makes and I don't mind doing the sequels.

Or do you mean the sudden appearance of Genesis Rhapsodos? xD

People have made fun of the whole 'pre/sequel' deal they've been doing lately.

One thing it's made apparent to me though: they obviously recognize that there are some faults with their initial plot and they're trying to redeem themselves. In the process, they're earning more from us that way. xD

Final Fantasy is Square's cash cow, in addition to it being a successful game series. But mostly cash cow. I like playing them. 6, 7, 8 and 12 are my favorites. Buuuutttt... I think this thread is in the wrong area.

*raises an eyebrow*

I think the only one that ... really sucked is the Fan service of Final Fantasy X-2
Never the less, I still own it... Because it's an FF game.

Final Fantasy 7, now that however... needs to be put in a "Disney Vault" and not touched, remade, messed with ect ect for about 10-25 years. I'm becoming rather sick of hearing about "CLOUD SO KAWAIIIIIIIII MUST LOVE FF7 !" *holds head*

Hollowsan ~ What game in the series are you referring to exactly?

Goldenlici ~ I agree with you. I even play the online Final Fantasy. (11) I just really don't like X-2 ^^;

Senpai ~ Indeed, indeed. They are earning loads off this series... I don't see an end in sight to be honest. I loved FF 12 myself. I'm glad someone else out there is on the same page with me about it. =3

I agree with this, but I don't really think there is a problem with it. If they get a lot of money for one final fantasy, then they have the money to make an even better game next time. As long as they keep creating good games, I will probably keep buying them.

I really didn't like X-2 either. No doubt it was a well developed game, good job designers, but the storyline and outfit thing was just too weird for me.

Hmmm... I agree with ShellyRoo about 7 and the rabid fangirls. I'm a Final Fantasy dweeb and proud of it. I even have some of the 'dolls' to prove my fangirlishness (Red XIII is the reason why 7 is cool NOT CLOUD...*cough* emo little punk *cough*.... ehem). But they have made it difficult to enjoy FF7. I'd really like a revamped version, you know spiffier cut scenes and what not. But I'm content with the old games the way they are. I happen to like Crisis Core. XD it's really fun, and X-2 was fun to play when I was on a sugar rush or wanted to piss off my brother. XD!

@lightkanna: You can get an emmulator for your computer to play Playstaion games and download the games. If you're interested message me and I can tell you how to get it.

I haven't played any of the FF series, though I'm interested in trying out FFVII (Original, CC, DC, etc.) and FFXIII if I can ever get my hands on a PS and the cartridges. I hate Cloud though, so I'm not exactly looking forward to playing him in the original...sure, he has an awesome sword in the movie and I even bought a replica of it as a keychain ring, but I still hate him. Dx

I've tried to download emulators in the past and the game ROMs, but they were all either broken or some kind of technical glitch happened and I can't open them. Or they were viruses. >.>

Goldenlici ~ Yes they did a wonderful job on the concepts and the game play... but you're right the outfits and such was just... way odd.

Tacit ~ YES! Another RED fan! He's my favorite. Lovvvvvvve him. So much. <3 I hate Cloud too. My sister is gaga over him and Reno. I looooooved the old PS1 game, I don't want them to keep ruining a good thing. I know it's earned them loads of money though... with the newer games and the movie.

Ohoh, has anyone played the PSP's Dissidia ? I have seen several videos of game play and I was so happy to see the characters together... butttttttt, the video I saw with like Squall and Sephiroth turned me off.... they weren't just battling, they were "Floating" around the arena. ;w; That's just not cool. But, alas I will get it anyway and see for myself.

Fading Existence ~ If you play the original do not fear... you have a team of people, not just Cloud. And he's rarely alone. (rarely) ... :x And you might actually like the game. Cloud is indeed a buttplug, but there are other things in the game that make it awesome and outweigh Cloud's... suckness. (Not a word but it was fun to say aloud when I typed this)

I really loved 12, because you could pick who you wanted to battle with. I played as Fran. And I made her use a polearm..... why? Because I could. Some people would argue that the game sucked because you could put it on Auto and use gambits to make them all do the work while you just sat and watched. But Hello People, just turn them off and do it all yourself. *sighs softly*

No problem with it what-so-ever. As long as a successful game series is successful, then they will keep making it. However, I personally would like to see the FF games get back to their original roots, like FF9. It's not my favorite game in the series because of the story and the battle system wasn't to my liking.

Captain Howdy is cool... and I'm not trying to be a kiss ass... really very cool.

@ShellyRoo: I do believe we may be Kindred Spirits. And as for Dissidia, I was in Japan when it was released and bought the Japanese version in a moment of blind stupidity. I can understand the spoken lines well enough, but I can't read kanji to save my life! XD! So I've been playing it half blind for almost 10 months and can really only figure out about half of what is going on. I figure if I play it enough I'll some how figure out the story line by osmosis. lol
I'm waiting for the price to go down in America before I buy the english version. With the exchange rate in end of December last year from Dollars to Yen I purchased Dissidia for around $25.

@Fading Existence: Tough run of luck. Well like I offered to lightkanna, if you want I can figure out a way to get you set up, or outline the path for you. Just message me if you want it.

Question: Does anyone know where I can find a hard copy of FFIX?! I've been looking for that thrice blasted game for... *counts fingers* A year and 3 months and cannot for the life of me get my hands on one.
See I was dumb, and didn't buy it because I'm not a big fan of Chibi-ish characters. But my friend in college hooked me on it on purpose. It's story line was supposed to be stupid and boring, you know very Disney with the runaway princess and the pirates who she falls in with and the queen really being evil. But no they had to make something that dull sounding interesting as you played the game. Aaaaaaaa......aaaa.... *chokes on own rant*

If you haven't played Final Fantasy IV ~ The After Years, the game has high replay value as you have a huge assortment of characters to play as. The Banding system was a nice twist to put into the game. I really wished they had made the tales of each individual character a bit more involved and that the bosses at the end of each level didn't look like regular monsters that you encounter in a random battle. My favorite character from the original was Prince Edward because I'm a musician. I like how they made him more brave this time. My favorite character out of the new generation I would have to say is Luca's dolls Brina and Calca. They are just so interesting looking. I remember there being six dolls you had to fight before you fought Golbez behind King Giott's throne. I kind of wished that King Giott could have been a character to join as well. As the game goes on it gets incredibly more difficult which isn't always such a bad thing. Just means you have to level up more and find all the best weapons in the game.

@Tacit ~ Your best bet is to go to Half.com or ebay.com. That game was a good one as I have just played through the whole thing last month and beat it. The game was good at the beginning, but towards the end the revelations seemed pretty weak in my opinion, but overall I really enjoyed playing it.

@ShellyRoo ~ I really must say that a remake for the PS3 would probably be one of Square Enix's biggest sellers! I would buy it. Untouched games eventually become forgotten over time by new generations. Look how many times they remade Final Fantasy I? First for the Nintendo eight bit, then on the Play Station One, and now on the PSP! If you haven't played Crisis Core then you should! It's an awesome game to play and fills in a lot of holes in the original Final Fantasy VII.

FINAL FANTASY. <3 Started with VIII, played most of them, favorite is VI. XD I need to finish that and II. D=

While I thought X-2 was a unnecessary game to add into the mix, it's not that bad at all. =| I'm also partial to Tidus x Yuna. Try getting through the Via Infinito and get back to me later. Personally, I hate this dungeon...! >_<;; Great training spots, but the later bosses are just plain mean. :'D I'm probably gonna have fun with the last boss down there.

Yeah, IX is really a great game. :C Kinda hard to find tho', but yeah. Your best bets are eBay or Half.com.

I don't know, when I get on topic, I can ramble on and on...
