Did you ever hear about an anime/manga and get so hyped about seeing it you couldn't wait until it came out, only to be sorely disappointed? Perhaps you've been watching the series and at the beginning it was good but the ending episodes left a bad taste in your mouth. Well here are the questions for you!
Have you come across such an anime/manga? And if so what was it and why were you disappointed.
UPDATE! Here are the top rated disappointments so far:
Inuyasha anime
Ranma 1/2 anime/manga
Fruits Basket anime
Naruto anime/manga
Tsubasa
Negima
Got anymore? *Yes I did go through all the posts and tallied the anime. XD If I did manage to miss something let me know.* If so keep watching but hopefully the anime of this year are more awesome than disappointing.
Spoilers!
For me it was most definitely Inuyasha. After all the episodes and chasing Naraku and constant love/hate relationship between Kagome and Inuyasha it never ended. No one's story was wrapped up, no one caught Naraku and Inuyasha never confessed at all! It ended with them running into the horizon with Inuyasha saying something along the lines of, "One day we will catch Naraku" and it ended there. So after 5 years of watching this show and waiting for some piece it never came. ><; So now I have to wait for the even longer manga to reach the U.S.
Now for your rants!

SPOILERS

For Fruits Basket! It started off so good and the ending was just like, "WTF?" for the anime that is. I mean, that's not even touching the real plot of the manga. How can that be an anime series? I heartily enforce another season or something coming out to finish what the manga started.

And then the manga! I loooved Akito. He was so awesome, and then to find out that he is really a girl. It's insanely craptastic. I did like, however, that Kyo and Tohru get together. I mean, Yuki is okay and all but everyone liked the rat and nobody liked the cat. :] But still. Severely disappointed in the ending of the anime and that Akito was a girl.

The manga would be Cross. Heard good reviews about it, read the first book and was mad I wasted my money on it.

A anime that let me down was DBGT. It was so boring. Plus not accurate! Vegeta said his hair always stays the same...Meaning he wouldn't grow facial hair. He looked so weird. Plus the series in general wasn't as good as DBZ.

The Angelic Layer anime wasn't good. They changed so many things in the plot. Manga was better...

Ultra Maniac's ending wasn't as good as it could have been. It was rather boring.

I'm sure there are more things that I can't think of..Oh yeah... Well I'm not mentioning that one. It's about a character dying >_<

*to Adderly* Arg! I shouldn't have read your post but I saw it was about Fruits Basket. T^T It was my fault so don't worry. So have you read all the manga then? Because as far as I heard about Akito it was just an internet rumor about him being a girl. He was my most hated character actually but I was all for Kyo and Tohru so yaaaay! <3
Yeah, the anime let me down too because it was so good but they didn't even get to the last two Zodiac and it ended like...on book six I believe. So hopefully they continue it.
*to Fuyumi_saito* About DBGT the reason why it was crap was because the original creator Akira Toriyama didn't help direct or write that series. His series stops after Majin Buu but the animators and story board team wanted to keep going. Toriyama said they could but that he wasn't going to participate. So if it didn't have that DBZ feel it's because he didn't do any of that series. Also they didn't keep to his guidelines which is why I didn't bother watching it. That and I hate Pan. XD

One of the cutest shoujo manga that i read last year, Aishiteruze Baby, was one of my favorite manga for a long time. Overall, i still think it was good. However, for me, the ending was so sudden and i think they should have taken another chapter or two to end it properly.

Aw, I wondered if Aishiteruze Baby was any good but the ending was rushed then? That sucks. ><; What's a couple more pages eh? XD At least you still like it. ^ ^

It is good, i still recommend it. By boyfriend doesn't think it was rushed at all, so i guess it depends on the person. I still own the whole series. lol

Okay, am I the only one who read the last book of Wish, and actually thought that either it had been changed for American audiences, or that something had happened to force Clamp to change it? I mean, the way it was going, I was expecting the Shuichiro wasn't human. Read 1-3 slowly, and tell me that isn't what Kokuyo seems to imply!

*to Kyoko Otonashi* Alrighty, I'll go to Borders and sit down with it for a little bit and see if I personally like it. ^ ^
*to Somercy* Aw crap, I did read that series but a long time ago. ><; So now I have to go reread it to see what you mean but to tell ya the truth I remember feeling weird about the ending.

So SPOILERS, obviously...

WISH
@Somercy, I felt the same way. I read a better translation first, but still felt like it left something out. Turns out that in the WISH artbook, there is the end to the story. And it's a really sweet end, I think. Kohaku goes to sleep in this tree and then whoever his lover was (can't remember the name) gets reincarnated and then finds the tree again. I suppose that was another issue I had was that I'd always thought of Kohaku as a male-- because of his narrow hips and wide shoulders-- and they translated him to be female.

Magic Knights Rayearth

What the hell? Honestly, I loved how cute this series was, and really enjoyed it when it got dark, too. But then the end was really lame and annoying. What was with that whole "Now you can name this world!" crap?

Earthian
Don't get me wrong, I still adore this series, but there never really was any real solid end to it. It frustrates the hell out of me that I don't know conclusively what happened.

Hunter x Hunter

Still like this series, but honestly, it just drags on and on and never really goes anywhere. I love the creator's characters, but he DBZ's everything he touches so that it's fight after fight and not a lot of fun character development. When Kurapika left the group, I really lost interest. Not because I don't like the other characters, but because it seemed just like more excuses to fight. That said, there wasn't enough Illumi, either. I kept expecting Killua's family to make more of an appearance. Maybe I just stopped reading too soon.

Naruto
Again, I really do like the characters, and I still keep up with the series, but DEAR GOD. I mean, how many books do you have to spend on getting that idiot Sasuke back? Hey, I'm all for the Sasuke love, but I got so incredibly bored towards the end of the first part that I left and didn't come back to read Shippuden until recently. I was really disappointed because I had expected better character development because the series was really spectacular in the beginning and it still has its great moments. This series is so character driven that even minor characters have huge fan followings (hey, I'm still an Iruka lover), but there's two different things that happen in this series to stop the pacing and that's too much dragged out action in some points and too much dialog in others. I would have liked to see more actual plot instead of whiny emo drama queen Sasuke making everyone go through hell for him. I'm hoping for some sort of AWESOME ending, but I'm not holding my breath.

Okay, that's enough whining for now. I'm sure there are other series that bother me, but these are the ones that came to mind.

lol Thanks for giving us a space to rant in. I'm totally done now. I swear.

D: I used to love Inuyasha--back when I was a squeaky little eight year old. Now...I see so many flaws in it. I still can't believe I loved a manga that was so mediocre--even the art was mediocre at best.

Another one that's waaaay too overrated is Naruto. I never liked the show, but all I hear is hype, hype, and more hype. Seriously. I really don't understand why it's so popular. I mean...it doesn't even have good art going for it.

Ok, now on to some more recent disappointments.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn. I've seen SO much fanart and gushing journals made for this, that I expected something better than what I got. I HATE the art in the beginning, but I saw a color spread for ch....a hundred something, so I'll give it a chance. However, the beginning storyline is just so...stupid and annoying that I fear I may not have the tolerance to continue it. D:

Aaaand....that's all I can think of for now. ^^;

Must...find...Wish...artbook. @[email protected] I am so confused because I've forgotten half the characters now. *le sigh*
*to Rinali Lee* Well I still like the art for Inuyasha but the story was mediocre after a while and too damn repetitive. ><;

Most anime disappoints me. A few manga series do as well.

Spiral (anime) - They never tell you who the Blade Children are. You get to find out in the manga, but not in the anime. That's sorely disappointing, because the whole way they were selling it was like, "Find out the mystery of the Blade Children!" Find out what?! I didn't find out anything!

Star Ocean EX (anime) and Star Ocean: The Second Story (manga) - Both of these follow basically the same plotline, and both are extremely disappointing. The game is way better; the anime and manga cut off and redid things so badly, that you don't get a good portion of the story. It's like, why did they release manga and anime for this, if they aren't even going to follow many of the main events of the game?! You don't even get to meet Chisato. Booooo. D:<

Loveless (anime) - This is just because I want to see more of the anime. I really enjoyed it, but it ended too abruptly.

Diabolo (manga) - It was too rushed, cramming everything into three volumes like that. >.<; It didn't flow very well because of that.

Also, note on Fruits Basket: more info on Akito is out in English now. Volume 17. Judge for yourself what is a rumor and what's not. I'm avoiding extreme spoilers because I respect that not everyone has read it.

I didn't know they made a Star Ocean manga. O.o Maybe I just overlooked it but I haven't played the game either so maybe I should avoid that one. ><;
As for Fruits Basket I doubt Adderly would mislead people but I really don't want to believe Akito is a girl. That would explain why he's such a cowardly douche bag but it doesn't fit that well. Anyways I'll go get book 17 when I have the money to afford it. ><;

sorry its true XD and still the fangirls rage. FB

the WISH thing. the character is sexless. so you can say both fan translation and tokyo pop are incorrect in some parts.

-anyway. Angelic Layer
i am going to collect the anime series of Angelic Layer. i am disappointed with how it ends though. it was a dumb change to make from the manga, too freakin obvious.

one thing that bothered me with Angelic Layer, was how much Misaki won...i guess thats where the shounen part comes in...she just won match after match. it didnt feel like a "little engine that could" it felt like she was literally unbeatable based on her ameture skills. also her mother acts two different ways from anime to manga. i prefer her in the anime. lol

-i didnt even get to read a whole volume yet! Naruto. just going by the summaries, and those few times i have read in the store. it can be an alright story...but the longer it goes on the more flaws you see. like the female characters. who are practically useless at points. i think the mangaka just made them just to have some kind of balance between the sexes.

having the characters time jump, and not really grow is a HUGE flaw. Naruto learned so much but reverts back to his stupid years as an outcast? i am also not too keen on the art, it lacks a lot in some areas.

-Gravitation. mostly because its using the abusive love is comedy route, sometimes reading about a character getting kicked around because they are "so in love" is at times- a turn off.
i hope to finish the manga one day though, just so i wont be left hanging.

-Peach Girl. i just cant stand the dump on Touji to Kiley. OMG FUNNY GUYS ALWAYS WIN!! Tee Hee >_> please. Kiley just got on my nerves.

Chobits. i love Chobits...but the anime made Chii so...ugh Moe that it bugged me for a long while. she was like decorative furniture.

for the manga, it had to be when CLAMP tried to make you feel all sorry for Persocoms because their memories can be erased with the click of a button.
such things can happen to Humans!! its called Amnesia!

-Tsubasa. the anime is just...wow. why does it even exist? oh right, because its CLAMP and animating CLAMP leads to big bucks. of course CLAMP themselves has ordered the anime to be stopped since it was such a wreck from the manga. even then. the base of the story is so interesting. but the pace and happens can be so boring. the cameo thing may work with die hard fans, but not on me.

NEVER give BeeTrain adventure works...ever. they can stick with Dot Hack. Tsubasa is a snore fest with them in charge.

-Love Hina. i get that "abusive girls" is funny in Japan, but at times it can go TOO FAR. Naru by far is my least favorite character. she is down right scary and obnoxious.

lol i was actually let down that both Kei and Naru got married. that is a match made in hell!

In my opinions. XD
So Akito is a lil whiny girl...I can take that. XD Makes "him" easier to kick the crap out of. I really hope justice is brought to that little asshole. >:)
I hate Peach Girl, she's such a whore and it feels like the manga is for preppy wannabe girls or somethin. Makes me sick really. And I did read a couple books but it was enough to make me want to scratch my eyes out. Chobits wasn't a favorite of mine either. It wasn't bad but I'm not going to buy it. As for Love Hina I did find it pretty funny and Naru isn't that scary. ><; She is obnoxious though.

i think its because he cant/could not draw girls. XD slapping on some boobs and long hair doesnt cut it lol..
well good to hear some changes.

i enjoyed LH, and it got me interested in Akamatsu's work. there was one volume of LH i could barely get through because Naru was on some kind of Steroid Induced PMS! it was crazy! and it made no sense.

LH is a good story and so is Negima but sometimes I get too frustrated to read it or my mind doesn't want to comprehend what the characters are getting at. XD Still good though...even though I say sometimes, "OMG! Child molesters!" D:< XD

The end of Elfen Lied was a let down. It wasn't that great of an ending. I wish it ended better.

I mean, I want to know for sure that Lucy came back! I mean, it was great that in the end she wasn't as evil as she was. But I still liked her a lot.

Ever any anime so far since i can just bye the manga (in fact incompleted anime gives me an excuse to get the manga.)

Although about manga though i have... with Eerie Queerie... good series but the ending it... spoiled me literally...

i mean at the end of Eerie Queerie Hasunuma and .. oh whats his name.... the main guy anyway.. fight over who is going to be seme =_= totally spoiled it....if they EVER make that into a anime i would want them to not add it in to the anime, other than that it would make a great anime but.. yea.. the ending is just.. well... horrible.. put me off reading it for good..

since Moe and Stupidity is getting WAY popular
it wouldnt surprise me if Eerie Queerie became an anime.
lol

if so. i just hope for no girl voices for the male characters...that is getting annoying.
even if they are popular. i have only heard a few female VAs (japanese) that can pull off a convincing male tone and be serious about it, without sounding like they are biting their tongue.

anyone else dislike when the mangaka seems to get to that point in the series were its like they dont know what else to do, and a bunch of random stuff happens just to try and get some desperate sense of moving the story alone?

lol that would be that Volume of Love Hina i was talking about. just totally unnecessary. it was beyond the typical Tsundere moment, it was just crazy.

or when there are slow downs that drag out because they want other characters in?
i am all for that, but at least make it interesting.
