required reading isn't too bad unless you have to look for all the symbols and such...

But what if they`re like 50 - 100 pages long and in small fonts?

That's rather short.. I get annoyed when it's over 200 or 300 pages.. >.<

But our teachers are smart to let us read it in short chapters. One at a time until we realize damn it, we've read a full book already.

It'll just be for the ID cards/certificates people can have on their signatures and such. Not the creatures themselves. The stages of each evolving pet will be hand drawn and perhaps even hand colored making each one a very unique child. :D
