Anytime actually but it would depend whether it was s school night or not. But usually a lot of kids my age go around the neighborhood till 3 in the morning. I usually never get enough sleep because of the constant doorbell ringing haha. In weekends many teenagers stay up the whole night around where I live.

WOW!

I never knew that Halloween could start at 4 in the morning! Just HOW can people wake up that early? And what do they do about school? DO they even have school on that day?! Wow! What spirited people! :D

I wish that there wasn't school on Halloween. School just ruins it, with homework and everything. :<

I would be so happy if my neighborhood started Halloween at 4pm! That just means more time to play around and such. >w< Of course I think if I want to do that I'd have to go to a farm fest thing and party in the corn there. XD But as for my hood we start around 6pm and once it's dark enough the trick or treaters come out. I usually start my party around there so that we can watch whatever movie or dance to whatever we feel like. >w< Our hood isn't that strange but I wouldn't mind it getting stranger. XD

A sunday? I thought Halloween was on a Wednesday?

Or are you mistaken, and think that I am talking about the event. Then that makes sense. But I don't know why you said Sunday if you were actually talking about Halloween itself...

Omg are you serious?! 3 in the morning?! That is nuts!! That would drive my mom insane. I always learned that when peoples lights are out, they either arent home, dont celebrate or ran out of candy.

I'm sure that even if I had candy left at 12, I would still turn my lights out because 3 AM would be waaaay too late to have people trick-or-treating O-o

So rather then answering two questions in seperate posts I have to go through the trouble of copying and pasting what they both said into one window and go through all that?
Because those posts werent the same so I dont know how that is a double post.

I don't live in a small town so trick or treating doesn't usually start until it's dark earlier some times for the wee ones!

I guess here it starts around 5:30, I don't think there is any set rule about it though. All the mall events start around 6 or 6:30 (trick or treating in the mall and other fun activities for the littler ones) because they want to allow for parents to get home and everyone to have supper first.
Generally it starts after dinner, we tend to get kids who on the way to the mall for their things, or on the way home from them.

I dont think anyone from my old town ever went trick-or-treating in the mall. People were greedy thoughh, they were just worried about getting home so they could have alone time and things like that. Not even the small businesses handed out candy like they used to when I was really little.
But I am in a new town now and things are different.
But we dont have a mall XP

I bet it's for safety issues- to do it while it's still light out.

It's just tradition to start after the sun sets so it's creepier.

The little kids and parents usually start out when it's daylight since they go to bed early. The older kids are the ones that hit the streets when it's dark. That's probably whats going on in your town, too.

The mall I work at is starting it at 5. But at five here, it's still really bright out. I stayed at home last year and I think the neighborhood kids started around 5:30...

Halloween starts whenever here. It really depends. It basically starts when it starts to get dark, which is when the little kids go out, and the older kids go out later. It's an age thing. Of course, Halloween 'starts' early October, because that's when all the stores start selling tons of candy and stuff.

i think it starts at sunset here.
but back in high school, my friends and i would go to the houses closeby and ask for candy.
it was so awesome. xD the people in the house would be like, "wth? O_o" and then give us a handful of candy.
Fun times, fun times.

When halloween starts in your town
Is your town strange too?
---------------------------------------------------

I have always believed that Halloween starts at Sundown. My mother would hardly ever let me go out until it was almost completely dark outside. xD I remember having to try hard not to trip over things in the dark (or my costume, heh), even with a flash light.

When I was a little older and was going trick or treating with friends they would sometimes start out earlier. Occasionally we would get to someone’s house and they wouldn’t even be ready for trick or treaters. It was humorous to see their faces though as we showed up on their door step. It was like they had completely forgotten that it was Halloween night. They would then scramble around inside their house trying to remember where they had stashed the trick or treaters’ candies. X}

The town where I grew up is not really strange. It’s a relatively large town with expensive neighbor hoods, so nothing too creepy or weird going on. I have just moved to a small town though, and I am interested in seeing how they celebrate Halloween. The town itself seems to be a bit more conservative, so I’m not sure how Halloweeny it is going to be.

My college is throwing a party though. So maybe that’s where all the entertainment will be. It will probably go on until the wee hours of the night.

I have a bit of a side question for people:

How long were you able to stay up and do ‘Halloween Stuff’ when you were younger?

Most people turned off their lights at around 10/11pm at night, so that pretty much ended trick or treating. But a lot of years I would end up at a friend’s house and we would sort our candy, make cupcakes, watch Halloween movies, etc. I think Halloween night is the only night I was truly allowed to stay up with friends all night at such a young age.

  • Where I live it's pretty normal - but my brother, his wife, and the kids recently moved to Gates ville North Carolina. The town itself has about 281 people tops. Last Halloween the newspaper misprinted the date and said it was Oct 31, instead of October 29'th. So the Whole town celebrated Halloween early without knowing till the next day.

I remember when the youngest called and told me. I Was laughing so hard. It was ridiculously funny - but I could see how easily it could have happened especially in a small population xD.
