Bah, i love this type of music.
Mostly because its unpopular so people i don't like won't have similar interests with me.
Ya i've taken radical conditions to avoid being close to other peoples likes.
So just vote and tell me why or why not you like it.

Screamo tends to be musically bland and annoying (do we really need umpteenmillion bands who all have the same type of whiny sounding screaming vocalist?)

But I do loves myself some metal!

Screamo tends to be more popular than metal, why I will never know, but if you're trying to be "non-conformist" screamo sure as hell ain't the way to go.

Search around for some obscure black metal that isn't known much outside of Norway and recorded on crappy equipment in someone's basement, then you can officially call yourself "non-conformist"

My two cents there.

I'm a symphonic metal lover myself, but I have dappled in Metal and screamo. It just got boring after awhile XD
But I have nothing against it, I still have a few songs on my Ipod that I listen to~!

I listen to a few screamo bands, but my favorite Metal Band has to be Bring Me The Horizon.

And clearly you live in a big town because nobodys heard of my bands here.

And @ the Norway comment i prefer quality to conformity

Raw underground black metal music is far from conformist (though you do have a point, it does suck), but many of these bands if you gave them a studio, would probably (at least musically) sound like any screamo band out there. And I do live in the St Louis area, a bit more of a diverse scene than some of the smaller areas. Still get stuck with alot of the mainstream screamo/pop-punk and pop-rap dross though.

I love metal though I don't listen to it as much as I did when I was younger. I don't listen to many current bands, especially since my music library on my computer is mostly 4+ years old and back from that.

Which bands did you listen to back when you used to?

Some metal is good, but I can't stand screamo. Thought there are a few J-rock bands that have some screamo type songs that are okay.

... Screamo is the only style of "music" that I dislike more than rap... I feel like the "singing" aspect requires no effort... And isn't very pleasant to my ears... I'd rather listen to American Idol rejects sing than screamo...
As for just listening to it to be non-conformist... What? You should like what you like because you LIKE it, not because others don't like it...

I'm a screamo fan myself, the stuff does require skill to sing.
But liking the stuff to be non-conformist? You gotta be shittin' me. People shouldn't have to force themselves to prefer one genre over another.
And unfortunately, BMTH (Bring Me The Horizon) lands on my top 10 band dislike list. Their guitars are horribly flat, the drumming is practically automated, the first 5 seconds of the first 3 tracks on their myspace sound almost exactly the same; and Oli Sykes the front man is an asshole, and was recently busted for urinating on a fan.

Not to mention how some(maybe most, I checked myspace) fans of BMTH are just possum haired scene kids who listen because it's "heavy" and Oli Sykes is pretti hawt and w3 wnt to marri him, but no1 knws who evry1 else in da band i5.

I am really sorry to go off on a rant here, but Bring Me the Horizon is one of those bands that make the screamo/metal/whatever genre look awful.

I myself listen to a lot of music, I dunno what would fall into the right genres, so I'll leave this in that I listen to some Converge and Dillinger Escape Plan at times, they have good guitar work.
