Nothing fancy about this place.
This is for dollers, current dollers, retired dollers, whatever.
No rules because you guys are mature enough to handle it. Least, I believe you're mature enough to act that way. Oh, but I guess I should mention this in passing. No internet slang or speak on this thread.
Thanks.
So...let's begin eh?

...What IS dolling? Doll collecting? Or making dolls? Or playing with dolls? o 3o;
Lol, sorry if I'm offending you by not knowing, but I can't help it. xD

No, it's not offensive in the slightest. =)
Dolling is creating a 'doll' with pixels. It's like the avatar you're using in Menewsha, or like Gaia.
Dollers use a base that someone else has created (it's like a Barbie-doll nude base) and they draw over it in pixels to create an outfit, hair, whatever else they want on it.
Usually people make their characters or themselves on a doll.
My signature has a doll I made, as an example. =)

It's very good. ^^ Do you use a program in specific, or something? o.o;

Most dollers use mspaint but some use photoshop. I personally prefer MSpaint because of it's simplicity :3

Hello!
I've tried my hand at dolling, but am not too great at it. I can't seem to get shading down. >.<;
I did use Paint Shop Pro 8 for when I did try it.
I've been itching to try it out again...but yeah. *lazy(&buried under hw)*

That's true. I forgot about that. I use Photoshop because I have a Mac computer. I think Macs also have a program called Pixel or something along those lines. This can also be used for dolling. =)
I like using Photoshop because of the layers feature. So...it really depends on your preference when working on a doll. Both work just fine.

There are a lot of good tutorials online I could share with you if you'd like.
What problems are you having with the shading?

I just can't seem to be able to make it look "real".
Like the little pixel doll is wearing it, or whatever.
But I also can't shade for crap when drawing either...so I think it might be a personal problem. XDDD

Well...since I can't see an example I can't really help you out. But it might be the palette you're using. If you have a close range of colours then it might not be showing the highlights as well as if you had a wider range.
And yes, I can draw/paint better than pixel. It's a strange medium.

I have a program called "Pixen" which is I believe the one you're referring to. It's specifically designed for making small pixel items, things that are drawn by the pixel, such as dolls. But it's also powerful in that it has layers, pallettes, and animation.

Ah yes, you're right. That's what it's called. I was close though. =)
It works well for dolls and pixel things but I like Photoshop more, I thin it's because I'm used to it.

- It also costs a pile of money xD.
And I don't think it runs well on Intel Macs.
I could be wrong, though xD.
I'm not a doller, though. I lack the skills. Mostly what I do on Pixen is simple quick animations. Like super simple.
Like this

- Okay over the past couple of days I've been finding link after link and collecting bases (with links to their creators' pages and terms of use, of course) and I've tried pixelling a few... haven't finished any yet xD. But here's a WIP.

"Minus" bases from Apitchou.

Hello all.
I use to doll a lot! But then I got a tablet and then I started to doll less and less until I stopped. I started about 5 years ago (I think) but I stopped about 2 years ago? Not too sure. But I randomly got into the mood for dolling a few days ago and pixelled this:
Base by Mariiiis Dolls
Not my greatest work...
I use Paintshop Pro and Animation shop~ :D
@poet`s playground: Looking good so far! :D
