Rando: Technically....
Ugh, but that confuses me, since I had to relearn it after learning Chinese at a kindergarten level.
xD;
I can usually edit quite well. But I can't tell you, "The use of asyndeton in this paragraph shows her ethos and pathos blahblahbalh" which is what we have to do in AP english.
>I
Bugger.
I got a 83% for my summer readings with comments that made me want to cut off my fingers and a practice essay which i got a 3-4 out of 9 (30/30 really, but projected score was that...). And over the week end I have to write a personal essay and an essay about autumn using a rhetorical device and exemplifying it through the use of it in my piece and bleaaargh.

Chi: It won't get easier. I'm hoping that through torturing myself I'll get better... I've been told she'll whip me into shape...
xD
We'll see about that everything else on tuesday maybe. I'm not sure about the physics test I just took.

The only good class so far: MANDARIN.

Ouch.

Case files to begin with can be daunting alone, and then to find a law background? >.>
What's it about, if you're allowed to say?

Maybe I could help? 8D

@Rando
Mmm, I'm not allowed. I've signed confidentiality agreements. I could give you examples, but no real specifics. Right now a big thing he wants help with is something going on with the Native American population and border crossing. He's a really big advocate for the population. It's amazing to watch his passion in action.

There are some issues between Canada and the US where their border crossing is. Right now a tribal member can use a Tribal Identification card, but with all the "LOLZ TERRORISM" going on, there apparently needs to be a more secure type of card.

Some tribes are insulted by this. Others are wanting to comply but have no money to apply/get cards printed.

The whole thing's been put on hold until the kinks can be worked out, but I had to do a lot of research to make sure that tribes can still use their current Tribal Cards for IDs and not need to purchase passports (too expensive).

The real shit's going to fly when the laws are finally passed and the secure cards are the ONLY cards accepted. Organizations are saying there will be "grace periods" to allow for tribes to get their new secure cards, but no one lists dates.

It's going to be horrible if suddenly tons of people can't cross the border and back again with ease (many do for work or to visit family on a very frequent basis), and they're only told "passport or secure card, please".

>/

But I can say all that since it's on the intarwebs.

Yea I thought you were under a NDA Chi, I wasn't asking for specifics. But that seems like a lot of work.

Is he for letting them in or for not letting them in?

He's pro-cause for them. His goal is so tribes can come and go as quickly as they do now without all the red tape the new cards may cause. I've worked on another case with one tribe regarding a rent issue. My head spun when I realized there's Indian Law and then State Law to view.

:gonk:

It's neat though. I'm slowly getting into working WITH clients (which is what I want to get out of this), so I'm getting less overwhelmed and a little happier as the days go by.

Its good to see people like him.
Lately everyone has been so anti-foreigners, it's disheartening. Especially as someone who's experienced immigration first hand, and discrimination that comes along with that.

Are these cards only for Native American Tribes, or for everyone in general?

In Europe, because of the European Union, anyone living in an EU country can travel/immigrate to another country in the EU without any problems at all.

@Hatake
Goodnight. :3!! <3

@Rando
Just tribal cards. *nod* US citizens have to have passports and... maybe other things. I don't know, I didn't put the information into my brain when I looked since it wasn't my focus. I'm not sure if social security cards and birth certificates work also. *ponders*

We have a reservation not far from Machias. One of my classmates is a Native American spiritual leader (I believe a co-leader; I'd have to ask) and I love listening to him tell stories. It's a beautiful culture. And he's such a smartass. He's a really great guy. In his 30s with a daughter. He's working hard so ultimately he can be a licensed counselor to help his population out with all the alcoholism there. Rehabilitative counseling.

I know what you mean about the anti-foreigners. It's very upsetting. I wish that people could just learn to love one another. Not gushy-gushy, but just pleasantries would be nice once in a while.

There was a news program that used to do social psychology experiments on passerby. I think it might have been called "What Would You Do?" I'll see if I can find a link. It was a good representation of how a lot of people respond to discrimination and how if just one person can speak up, often times others do too.

EDIT:!

Here's one. This one really struck me last semester. (Wait, I lie. It was last Fall, so a year ago.)

That was a moving clip. I would be someone who would voice how disgusting of a behavior they were exhibiting.

I've never been treated so rudely, but while living in the UK I did subconsciously learn to mask my voice so I didn't get so many questions/reactions. Usually the people who poked fun of where I was from were people from work. I did have some people make fun of me at a train stop and my ex husband told me to talk softer as the people over there were badmouthing me.

I'm assuming she means her accent, but I could be mistaken.

I'm still curious where the badmouthing came from. Some people like "foreign" sounding voices. ;_; *slaps people*

And yeah... those videos are something. There were many more examples varying from subject to subject.

Yah my accent. Most strangers who approached me were really nice about it and wanted to ask a bunch of questions like where was I from, what brought me to England, etc. It's only now and again I had one hostile person. And most of the 'negativity' came from people from work who knew me and I just wrote it down as their 'sense of humor'...They take the piss out of themselves.

Is it just the "American in the UK" type poking fun at or do you have a Southern (or other) accent?

I have the whole downeast Maine thing going on. Cars are "cahs" and water is "watah".

Watch a Stephen King movie where the town is centered in Maine, and that's us. >/ (Seen Dolores Claiborne?)

Watah sounds Brooklyn Chi. xD

@Izumi: I have people pick on my accent all the type. Mostly it's to do with the whole rhoticism of AmE, which is trivial since English 300 years ago was rhotic. So I tell them that as a sort of STFU.

Not weeks at a time, but I just put it up for offers tonight. I'd like to test the waters a bit (a day or two, maybe three?). Would you like me to PM you if someone bids higher? :3 Then you could come back without having to keep tabs?
