I read a lot of manga in the store untill I have the money to buy it. I don't usually sit in the bookstore and read novels though. I prefer to be at home and be nice and comfy and away from people.

I have a very weird system.
Some random cover catches my eye, so i read the back of the book. If I like that then I will read the first chapter. If I find it appealing I buy it.
Although, when i was young I came into town when my dad worked EVERY sunday and would go to the bookstore and just read manga for eight hours. I finished a couple of series, but I really liked them so I did end up buying them in the long run. I felt I should support the authors.
Is it considered stealing if you read a book and never buy it? I have heard multiple answers to this with many different reasons.

I always buy the book and read it at home. I think I can enjoy it better that way. I've read at the bookstore a few times but only b/c my friends were taking too long. Although, I think manga could easily be read in-store since they're so short and only take me about 30 mins to read, tops.

I'm too self conscious to sit in a bookstore all the time. I feel like the employees are watching me, or that I'm bothering someone.
i'd rather just buy my book, run off home, and settle down in my own room. That way I don't have to worry about anything at all and won't be distracted from the story.

personally, if the book sounds good, i've read it or someone recomended it, i would just buy it. however, if the book sounds interesting and i'm not sure if it will keep my attention, i would sit and read a few pages, before deciding.

I usualy buy the ones i really like. I'll skim through them first in the store of read online reviews and opions first. I find it rude to read a complete book in the store. Really if someone is going to do that go to the library. It's in poor taist to do that at a store. What bothers me most though are the people who block the aisles there's plenty of seating so please just go sit down. As you can see this is a major pet peeve of mine and there was no intent to offend anyone.

I almost always buy my books. I can't explain it exactly, but somehow I'd much rather be able to say I actually own the book, and to have it in case I ever want to read it again.
I do occasionally get books from the library, though, if it's just something I'm reading to pass time and probably won't read ever again. I ALWAYS buy books I know I'll really enjoy and want to read over and over, though.

I do both if i have the money i will buy if i really like it. If its just something im reading to pass the time then i will probly never buy it. If i run out of time for reading something sometimes i buy the book and the next one so i can pass the time at home.

First time around, sit in the bookstore. If you want to go back a second time to read it again, then it's easier just to buy it.

I have a friend who does this. I prefer doing this in the libraries though. I don't usually buy books, because I rarely have money. I only read manga in the bookstore; in libraries some people have done horrible things to the pages. I snag half the free "discarded" section at the Library though.

I like to buy my long novels in the store. But for my manga I like to read in the store cause I don't like to buy a 10 dollar manga and then I can read the whole thing in less then 30mins. The only manga that I buy is the series that I love alot, like vampire knight, to support the author.

I like to do a little of both. If it's a manga, I'm more inclined to sit in the bookstore and read it since I can go through an entire book in a very short time. I usually visit Borders, sit in the manga aisle for a couple of hours and go though a series. I usually buy novels so I can read them at home. There is almost nothing better than curling up on the couch with a blanket and a good book.

I read most of my Manga at Onemanga.com but I buy ALL my novels. You should see my room I have my own libary! I get them from Amazon, Borders, Wall Mart, Target and Libarys. Plus my family members know of my addiction and I get them all the time from family member 'passing' books down or see them at a G-sale. I feel funny reading a large section of any book/Magazine in the store. I guess I feel like there gonna get mad at me for not buying it.

As the girl above me stated, I usually read most my manga online. I Do enjoy sitting in the bookstore cuz it has a good feeling to it. So I read some there also, instead of buying stuff >3 or sometimes I bring my own book lol. (Did that just 2 days ago...) But thats only when I have something set to read already. I buy all my novals. I have bought manga as well (or had it bought for me)
Sometimes I go skim, read backs to get books. But more then anything I usually buy books from friend recomandation. Most all of my books were recommended to me, or bought for me =P

I mostly read books from the library. My parents said that it's wasting money to buy books for me since I don't read them more than once. (which is kind of true.) So I check them out in the library.

I usually buy them. I hardly ever spend too much time actually in the bookstore reading something, and if I do it's usually browsing and reading multiple things. Just recently we actually went to the bookstore not planning to buy anything and just reading while we were there. I read the whole book on self-help about neat things to do for your home. It was fun and informational. :D

I don't go to bookstores often but when I do I just go to a section and start reading a book, if I really like it i'll buy it, if its short i'll finish it. XD but mostly I go to the libary and just read for an hour and check out some books to finish at home. XD

MAN I LOVE BOOKS!! To tell you the truth I love to buy as many books as I can. My shelves are overflowing with them! :D Especially hard covers! ^_^
However I do spend hours reading in Boarders. I pick up a book read the back cover then put it down. If it seems pretty interesting Ill start reading it. I continue this pattern until before I know it, hours have gone by. Its so great to be lost in books. Until I realze Im standing right in the way XD
So im really into both. Spending hours reading the books in the store but ending up going home with a brand new hard cover in a plastic Boarders bag. :D

I like buying the books, because I like having a copy that I can hold and say it's mine. But, for sertain book I reather just sit in the store an read. They're mostly information books that I do that with. Because what's the point of carrying around like an atlas or something, while carrying fiction (or sometimes nonfiction) just seems more reasonable. Like this one time my friend wanted to read this book about all the places in Star Wars or something and I sat there for like 45 minutes listening to him reading from this book. Personally it wasn't very exciting. :/

i tend to read/scim through manga in stores. actual books, i'll look at a few pages and the summary, then i'll buy it.
i dont really have favorite authors so i cant say i'd buy just to support that one author. i'll buy if the first few pages drag me in and the summary as well

I buy both my books, and manga if I'm going to a store the most I read, in the bookstore itself would be the back cover to know if I want to buy it or not. Unfortunately we don't have a B&N around here, but we do have a Booksamillion which about 20 to 30 miles away from where I live. I don't have time to sit around reading the books in the stores, although it would be a nice change of pace considering I could spend hours in a bookstore. I cant do that either since usually I'm with my dad, or my best friend who don't care to spend that long in books stores.
