My favorite poem by Edgar Allen Poe is definately "Annabel Lee" .
It's a lot different from his other works, but there's something about the poem that I love.
Great imagery.

Oh yeah I love that one too I've read it almost as many times as The Bells yeah the imagery is amazing! He put so much detail in his writing! Even though pretty much all his story/poems are sad he's my favorite writer!

I really need to read more of his work. I absolutely adored "The Tell Tale Heart" but I'm worried if I start reading the poetry I'll start analyzing the heck out of it and look for secret meanings and come up with nothing.

Poe's writing, in itself, is amazing, but what I find more incredible is his lasting influence on literature, even today, and then the ripple effect that this has. Look at Poe, and how he influenced Lovecraft, and so on, and you see that Poe was less of an individual genius (which he was, undoubtedly, but), and more of the first 'pebble', if you will, which began a motion felt to this day.

I don't know.

Posts like this make me think I read too much.....

Oh, I do love Poe's works, especially "The Black Cat", and "The Raven".

In fact, whenever I see the name "Raven", I can't help but say "Nevermore" :D

The Tell-Tale Heart was the first thing of Poe's that I had ever read. After that, I read through most of his short stories, but the only poem of his I've read is The Raven, which, altogether, I'm rather fond of.

  • I absolutely love him <3
I read some of his poems and I liked them but I began to really love it starting in english class >___<
We read The Tell-Tale Heart and I was like " ;O This guy's the besttt :]"
And so began my obssesion xD

I really liked Lenore and Annabel Lee :3
Those were a couple of my favorites <3
But I did my english report on The Raven. That took me a while to comprehend, I didn't quite get it the first time X.X

I think the Lenore cartoon series is kind of cute in a slightly disturbing way though >____>

What I have read of him, I totally love. However, in the short story department, that has probably only been about half a dozen or so. I particularly enjoyed 'The Cask of Amontillado' and 'Black Cat' really sticks in my mind, but I had to start it a second time - I couldn't bear it the first time I tried to read it.

I really love his poems. I've memorized several of them, including 'The Raven' and 'The Bells' both of which I quite like. Stepping away from them as obvious choices for favorites, though, I also really like 'Ulalume - A Ballad' and 'Dreamland'. The frequent repetition in the former (with some slight variations) and the haunting imagery of the latter really appeal to me.

The Raven was interesting.
I read it in history. xD
I liked it.
You know those little tape things that you can play? And it has the really strange voice?
It sounds really good with that.
XD
So scary. D: <3

Edgar Allen Poe is okay.

Here's a good way to remember his stuff if you ever have a test on him:

Classicism! Romanticism!
What a very big fight!
Shall we have rules or throw them away?
Balance/Order
Strange disorder!
When it’s heart versus head.
The Romantics will win every time!

Poe’s sad bells
Poe’s sad bells
It’s a sad day for the Ushers
Ravens scream!
Painters dream!
Frame stories take lives away!
(Tune: “Silver Bells”)

Edgar Allen Poe crazy. But he is an amazing writer. I've read a few of his poems and a few extracts of his stories but I am going to get round to reading them.

I did enjoy "The Raven" though I meant to read
more than I have of Mr. Poe's works, I haven't
very well got to reading them all.

However, he is an excellent writer.

I agree with everything that has been said about Poe's talent. It is incredible, but I must add. I love his infallible rhythm of his poems! In the Raven it just blows me away!! What is also interesting is how his writing appeals to a dark side of human nature. Most other writers have a few specific genres or topics, which they attempt until they find their niche. Others try to be versatile, encompassing many different genres in one. Poe is a distinct writer, who definitely commands this Gothic genre of poems and short stories. I adore his ability to use words as he does. Do you agree?

I love Edgar Allan Poe.
I haven't read much about his other works.
The only ones that I know of and love the instant I read them once are:
Annabel Lee
The Bells
The Raven

@mercury: Yes, I agree about everything that you said about him. He just simply knocks me out with the infallible rhythm in his poems and the incredible way of how he uses words!
