I remember reading The Raven but I don't really remember it well but I do remember the one where a man killed an old man and buried him in the floor(I forgot the name of the story)I just thought it was creepy but then I reread it I noticed how well it was written and everything else about it.

In Reading Class we had to read "The Tell Tale Heart". It was kinda scary, but cool. It expresses how he felt. I just thought he was crazy. Lol.

I do enjoy his work. I am happy, because this year we are supposed to be reading The Red Masque Death..I believe it is called.

Last year we read The Cask of Amontillado. It was a good one, I like how his stories aren't the typical happy endings.

I actually did a piece of coursework for my A2 English Language course, on horror fiction and detective fiction, so I just had to use Poe, as he is a master of both (as well as the general creator of the latter).

Certainly, I have to say I admire how he can write with such eloquence, and yet still manage to get to the core of your fears. Listening to Naxos' collection of stories, read by William Roberts, managed to enthrall me, yet scare me at the same time. I could hardly sleep after "The Pit and the Pendulum", because of how the atmosphere of the ending was, despite it being a debatably happy ending.

As for favourites, I would have to say I quite like "The Raven" for a poem, while story-wise, I loved "The Cask of the Amontillado". "The Black Cat" scared me quite a bit, but I loved it. Then there's "The Pit and the Pendulum" which has that lovely slow burning effect when it comes to scaring you.

Edit:

To Cable Induced Coma - The story you're thinking of is "The Masque of the Red Death".

I'm a huge Cask of Amontillado fan. And I'm highly amused by the fact that my sister in law, an English professor, actually uses 'for the love of god montressor' as a livejournal post filter for some of the more idiotic things she writes about. :D

I love almost everything I've ever read from him. I actually went out and bought an Edgar Allen Poe action figure that I saw in a store once, and on the back it had trivia about him..I didn't realize until after I got home but the day I bought it was actually the same day that he died.. Freaky !

Indeed, he does have a novel. It's called "The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket." Though it's the only full novel he wrote.

I love Edgar Allan Poe! He is just so amazing! I really loved his short story 'The pit and the pendulum' it was my favorite when I read it in high school, we didn't have to read the entire short story I think it was just the first 2 paragraphs and write what we thought about his style in writing but, I read the entire short story and wished that it was a whole book.

Oh no. You're not weird. His work is really good. I'm really fond of "Ligeia," "The Raven," "Metzengerstein," and "The Fall of the House of Usher." We did read "The Masque of Red Death" at school and it was pretty cool, especially when we analyzed it.

I entertain a few Edgar Allan Poe stories. The man was a poetic genius of his time, and I'm glad he decided to write it all down. My favorite stories are The Raven and The Masque of Red Death. I read them both when I was 13, and instantly fell in love. <3 :3

I'm a huge Edgar Allen Poe fan. In middle school, in English class we had to choose a poem to read to the class and do a report from. I chose "The Raven". I look back and wonder what I was thinking. Haha
