One summer way back when I was just a tike, my aunt shaved her cat's torso. Does that count?

That poor thing looked more obscene than a completely furless cat.

But I prefer furry animals even though I am allergic to them.

Yeah I do realize that. My friend has to get rid of all her pets because her is allergic to all animal fur and feathers also because of medical problems within the family. I might suggest to her to get a hairless pet she likes pets but can't have a furry one so I'll suggest the alergy free ones.

Getting a hairless cat won't help people allergic to cats. The allergin from cats is not from their fur, or even from their skin, it is actually an enzime from their saliva.

Cats are cats, so they will groom themselves no matter what. And cat dander is light and sticky, meaning it will happily float in the air for prolonged periods of time and will stick to anything that it somes into contact with.

I don't like hairless versions of pets. I feel sorry for the poor things. ...I'm not sure if they're natural breeds or if someone bred them to be like that, but if it was the latter case, I would feel horrible about them. Think, if someone were to have bred you to not have hair--that means you wouldn't have its protection for warmth, over your eyes, etc--wouldn't you hate it? I think it's cruel how people breed animals just to tickle their own fancy in aesthetics.

Of course, I could be entirely wrong about the fact that they were bred to be so. And if that's the case, everything I've just said is moot. xD

I have two hairless dogs. I love them to bits. They’re Chinese cresteds and they have a TON of energy. They also get into everything, which can get annoying. Hairless cats are adorable too. I’m thinking about getting one once I have the money.

I don't like hairless/furless dogs and cats, the only furless animals I like are fish. :>

But, I think that if you like it, you should be able to get it. But, if you do decide on an animal, your whole family should be able to agree with it, so there are no arguments in the house and such.

If you really want one, compile a list saying why hairless pets are so good. For example, hairless dogs do not shed. >>

I'd love a hairless kitty, I think they're ridiculously cute in a very, very strange way.
I think I'd have to find myself living in a warm area though. I live in Canada atm and that's probably just a bad idea.

Hmm well even though they will look weird, cause I usually see dogs really hair everyday, it would kinda be better so then you won't be sneezing all the time or having stuffy noses! Also, you would be cuddling with them to keep them warm XD

Skinny pigs make me laugh. They’re good for people with allergies, if you just have an allergy to fur. I hear they’re almost hypoallergenic though. I’ve ordered one before for a customer that was allergic to guinea pigs and she had no problem with it. They do look awfully weird though, but they’re kind of cute in an ugly way. I like how hairless pets seem to be warmer than haired pets too.

they scare me lol
if i were to have an animal it would have to have fur

i mean is'nt that what having an animal is all about the fact u can care for them and stroke them

to to say i think they are ugly i think they are just as cute as any other animal so should not be singled out as "ugly" or "uncute"

go go furless animals!!!! :)

Yeah, I suppose the allergy thing is a good point.

I bet they would be warmer since there isn't any fur to get in the way. My kitten that is short haired is ten times warmer than my long haired cat. ^^

Yeah, I’ll lay with my dogs under the blankets to keep both them and myself warm. It’s like having a hot water bottle under there. The good things about hairless pets is that they always want to be right up against your skin.

Those are my naked boys. ^^;

  • It depends on the furless animal... Some creep me out. >< And I would have to think that furless animals that are supposed to have fur are being tortured because it's probably too cold for them... I mean why else would the rest of their species have fur? :\

I see a lot of people say they feel sorry for furless critters for not being warm. If a pet parent takes care of their animal I see no problem with them having them. In the winter time, I put clothes on my boys before they go outside and they’re warm enough where they actually like being out there and they’ll play in the snow sometimes.

As far as small pets go, I’ve used a heating pad to keep the naked pets at my work warm. It works just fine. In the wild you’re not going to see those kind of critters because not only as they more prone to the cold, but their immune systems are also not as strong as those that are furred. At least with the case of hairless rats/skinny pigs/mice.

Chinese cresteds are fine because they do have that haired gene bred into them, which makes their immune system just as good as any other dog’s. They do however have problems with their teeth though due to the hairless mutation. Other than that they’re just like any other dog, but naked.

What are their names?
