Recently, as in the past two days, I've been having a slight issue with the medications I'm taking. Not only that issue but today I found out that I start family counseling this Thursday and I'm not looking forward to it. I hate spending time with therapists since I often times don't feel I am capable of saying anything or I avoid the subject because I don't want to address it.

Well the issue at hand for me right now is my medications. I take quite a few considering my age. I have depression, anxiety, add, acid reflux, and I recently had strep throat. So that amounts to five medications. Anyways the two I'm having the trouble with is the anti-depressant and the ADD medications. The issue at hand is the ADD medications depress me and the anti-depressant is trying to keep up with it. It's like having a pebble in your shoe.

Well since I got the dosage increased I've been really depressed so I told my mom. I really want to be able to increase my grades and I have a really hard time concentrating. I guess I kind of need help in a few areas though. Doe anyone have any good tips for cracking down on homework?

The last issue is when I get really nervous it's hard to eat. Then I feel sick so its really hard to even function. Does anyone have any tips on how to stay calm in some stressful situations? [ex. going out to eat]

Things to discuss:
How to level your mood so its stable.
Getting things done
Medications
How to eat a healthy diet

Well be careful mixing your meds.

I used to have to take anti depression pill and one time i needed to get to sleep for the next day was the first of school and so my dad gave me a sleeping pill not thinking anything of it and well one was a upper and one was a downer so they mixed in my body differently and i started seeing things that wasnt really there and feeling things and well i didnt go to bed early that night my parents had to force water down me for i thought i was drowning every time i took a drink and i saw bugs on me and people coming and the ceiling falling and stuff and my parents had to sit through the whole thing and i was on the phone with my bf crying b.c he wasnt helping "save" me and told him that he didnt love me and i hated him and stuff and so he was cring b/c he wantted to come be with me but his mom wouldnt let him lol its funny now but back then it was so scary!
You should talk to your doctor though and tell him your feelings and he may lower one of the meds or take you off one or something or change them all together to different things!

I have a hard time "craking down" on homework sometimes. Usually what I do is make a schedule for doing my homework that includes scheduled breaks. It's a way to organize my time. It can even be and open ended schedule, something like work for an hour, take a ten minute break, work for another hour, take a fifteen minute break, and then just continue to repeat it....

I also take anti-anxiety medication. I can get uber stressed to the point where I can barely function (ex: not being able to even leave my apartment). In times like those I do a relaxing activity to calm my nerves. A warm bath does wonders for me. Another thing I do is clean or cook to keep my mind off of what's stressing. Exercising is good too. For something smaller I like to get a small tub of play dough and use it like a stress ball (a stress ball would work to by the way). I'm also a creative person, so I can make stuff with the play dough to again put my mind on something else.

As far as a stressful event.... It just depends on what it is. Getting up in front of people is pretty much a phobia for me and causes me a lot of stress. To be truthful, in that kind of situation I usually find a way to get out of it. I figure the best way to not get stressed is to avoid stress all together. ^^;

If I did have to do something like that I'd look at the core problem I'm having with doing it. Like the presentation stuff, I get over self conscious, so in turn I'm thinking too much on how people view me, I get embarrassed, and it makes me get stressed. The solution to that is to do something to work up my self-esteem. It might be buying a new pretty shirt to wear, or something else like that. ^^

I sometimes have a difficult time knowing when I should 'do my homework!' and when I should just play on the computer...and honestly it came and bit me in the ass!

I didn't get into my first college of choice....I got into my second but still, I was sometimes lazy or didn't get the best grades because I didn't study as hard as I should have.

But with medications...I don't know if I can really help you a ton because I've never been that depressed or had ADD...I guess that the only thing I can say is be cafeful about what you take, and mixing meds can also cause a problem...so yeah...just please be careful. <3

...When I have problems doing homework or 'cracking down' I just tell myself on the way home from school...okay I get to do NOTHING fun until I'm done with my homework, and the first thing that I do is sit down at the table and do my homework, and I don't leave until it's finished...I think my mom also enforced that when I was young as well.

So it really does just depend on you to force yourself to do the homework and no go off to do something else.

Good luck. :)

What helps me when I absolutely NEED to get something done is actually to watch TV or IM someone while I do it. If I try to just do homework, I get sick of it very quickly and walk away. However, if I'm doing something else at the same time my attention seems to stick much better. Sometimes I can get very distracted and things take me a bit longer, but at least they get done. XD

@Crazy_Gypsy: I've been careful with my medications ever since I got them but we're finding that certain stuff just doesn't work for me. In fact my mom thinks that it might be a good idea to get my anti-anxiety medication increased because I've been having some major people problems recently. Apparently its bad to dislike being around people. I'm getting that issue sorted out though.

@Lovvy: I agree at times. I need to be multi-tasking to get anything done. In fact I need to be multi-tasking if I'm not in the theater to actually watch a movie. I've tried to do homework right away and it just doesn't work for me. I get home I start it and then I get hungry and then I start watching tv and I don't go back to my homework.

Dealing with stress is something I know a tad bit about

The best and quickest way to get stress out of your system is by simply breathing. Close your eyes (out of sight, out of mind!) and take 10 deep breaths. In the nose, out the mouth. I swear every time you breathe out you feel tension slipping away. You're so calm by the 10th breath that sometimes you feel like you'll melt into a puddle.

As for the healthy diet, just keep veggies around. I started eating very healthy when I was pregnant with my first child and got even better at it with my second. Meat servings should be kept at the size of a regular pack of cigarettes (is using cigarettes to size healthy portions odd to anyone else?) and only once or twice a day. Veggies should make up most of your diet, and grains should be a close second. Save fruit for snacks.

As for getting things done, just do them. Stop thinking about doing them and do them. You make a mountain out of a molehill any time you stop to think about a task that needs done.

actually, everyone on add pills gets depressed, they need to be better perfected!
In addition, if you have the wrong type, dosage, (or if you don't even need them) of depression pills, they can make you more depressed.
Actually i was "put on" add and depression pills, that i never took, and everyone thought they saw an improvement, lawl!

Anyways, for attention paying with add, i actually pay attention when i'm trying to listen to someone better if i'm not looking at them and doodle-ing or playing with my bracelets.
As for the depression, have you doctor check the chemical levels of the pill and you (uh oh! blood tests) because if you're still depressed after taking anti-depression pills, then it's possible that they are actually making it worse, which could be likely, seeing how anti-depression pills treat the natural chemicals that your brain might over-produce... but it seems that you are depressed to to artificial factors from your add pills, so if that's the case you deffinately need to get off those anti-depression pills.
I would suggest instead of those pills, maybe excersize. (no i'm not calling you fat! xD) because that can naturally enhance your happiness level.

edit: as for the stress, the best thing that works for me is petting my dogs (if you have any), listening to music with headphones (it sounds much better than with a stereo when you're stressed) , and maybe eat less sugar and caffiene (crash=stress)

Hahaha... the only time I get depressed is when I either PMS or I don't take my Anti-Depressant. Which reminds me... I need to take it soon.

And no its not from the possibility of my anti-depressants not working, I know they work quite well otherwise I wouldn't still be on them. I've taken this kind since about 8th grade so that's about four years.

I remember when I was prescribed adderal I would get extremely depressed during the school year, which might be why I can't remember half of eighth and ninth grade, but once I got off it I felt a lot better.

That was exactly how this situation is. I took the higher dose of the ADD medications two days and I found myself to be overwhelmingly depressed for no reason at all. Then I didn't take it the third day and voila! I felt amazingly better. So in other words the ADD medications were taking a tole on my mood but my mom is concerned about my grades which aren't faring too well but I think part of it was because I was sick for a week in September and then sick for about four days in October, now I haven't been sick at all in November and I'm thanking my vitamins that I get from what I eat for that.

In addition I can't have caffeine in general and whenever I have caffeine nothing happens to me. I used to think that I got hyper when I had caffeine but then I just drank an energy drink without anyone around and I found that I just get really calm whenever I have caffeine. Oh the joys of having ADD [or slight ADHD in other words, just more inattentive]
