I immediately thought of a amusing family story.

My grandparent both worked, so my mum and my uncles had to rely on getting in the house with a spare key that my grandmother would place in a certain spot everyday. Execpt that my nan often forgot the spare key.

So my mother and uncles had to climb the back gate which was 2 metres high, pry open the toilet window (which was the only window that could be opened from the outside), and my mother, who was the smallest, got shoved head first through that window so she could unlock the back door. My mum always said that she hated it when my uncle Paul was the last person to use the toilet, because he would leave the seat up and mum would have to stop herself from falling into the bowl.

But after going through that, my question was; why did she always!?! I sure as hell wouldn't!

>.> I've always thought "the safest place is the most obvious place" (old proverb or somethin' in chinese)

I'd probably hide the key in one of those rocks where there is a secret pocket to hide a key under... (I can't remember what television show it was that the guy did that~ Two and a half men?)

>.< But if I forgot my keys... which happened more than once already... my dad is going to really get mad at me... XP

Anyway, where do you keep your spare key?
Around my neck. I wear it all the time just in case. So it's like a necklace I suppose.

Is it something obvious, or do you think it's in a good place?
I think it's a good place. It's tyed correctly, and it's not too obvious if I hide it in my shirt...

Where do you think the best hiding place for a spare key would be?
In a nearby bush...

Do you tell people (family members/friends/etc.) where your spare key is in case they need to get into your house in an emergency?

No. I do not. It's not like they could get it anyway XD

Um... around my neck? I'd also bury it in the front yard somewhere near the door, or underneath the welcome mat. as obvious as that is.

I could always hide it in my bra...

My spare key is always in the backyard, under a piece of wood.
x-X

It's obvious.

But I live in a very secure neighborhood, because no one really has the need to steal or break in...

So it's all good. x3

If I had a spare key I would hide it in
a place that I knew wouldn't get much
attention, like under a flower pot. I
don't know if it is the best hiding place,
and I'm not so sure if there really is one.
I don't tell people where my key is, because
I don't have one. But if I did, I would surely
tell family and possibly friends. I would just
have to be able to trust them.

If I had a spare key I would
Put it in somewhere no one would find
in a rock.

I hide my spare keys with my family and good friends. x} That way if I did lock myself out or misplace my keys I could call one of them to come open my apartment and get a copy of the key made. I don't have anywhere good to hide a spare key around the outside of my apartment. >.<

My spare key is kept at my Grandma's house,
which is like a 5 minute walk away. x]

I wouldn't want to try leaving one outside, I'd be checking it all the time to make sure it's still where I put it. ;0

Heh, my spare key is in my wallet, which I keep with me at all times. I *do* have a key stashed in one of those decorative key-hiding rocks outside, but it's not to any lock that I own, it's a bad key I made by accident while I was cutting them for a customer at WalMart.

You see, I'm a bit of a bastard, and I'd really get a giggle out of watching some guy have an aneurysm trying to get the spare house key he found to open the door.

I'd keep it in my wallet, maybe.

;0 Or have a fake doorbell thing that I could hide a key behind.
That would be cool.

I don't have a spare key hidden I live in a flat so it would be pretty hard and everyone would be able to see me get it so I just give it to one of my family members so they can drive over and let me in :)

we used to put one in the shed, but agreed that wasn't very safe, so we just don't forget our keys :D

Jayms_fallen_angel -
xD The daddy mobile? That's awesome. Thanks for the giggle.

daashi -
I feel your mothers pain. We drove three hours from our house to a camping ground when we had one of those little camper/trailer things. Once we get there, they figure out that my mom and her cousin left the key. They said there was no way in hell they were driving six more hours up and back to get the key so they pulled open one of those crank windows and picked me up.
"Mom, I don't think I'm going to fit."
"Yes you will." -SHOVE!-
I was traumatized that day. xD Luckily it only happened once though, and I didn't almost fall into the toilet. o_o Your poor mom.

dtm420 -
Well, hopefully you don't need it often. Or do you?

Komitadjie -
Oh, that's mean. xD Funny though, I bet it would be a great laugh to watch the guy trying to get it to work.

I don't need keys for my house, but if I did hide a spare key it would probably be in the tree right next to our steps. In front of our house we have huuuge bushie trees, and that's the only place I can think of.

I don't think I would put a spare key outside my house cause I'd be afraid of someone finding it and breaking in. We don't even use the front door really, everyone comes in through the garage so we all have a keycode to get in. Just recently told my boyfriend the code so he could get in to check something while my family was out of town.

When I get my own place, I'll probably keep a spare in my wallet or give my boyfriend a spare (course I plan on moving in with him so thats not really a spare).

I used to have a spare key hidden in a window pane, but one of my "friends" stole it. (After breaking in and stealing some small items from me)

I keep a spare key hidden in a little wicker cart figurine at home. I don't believe in keeping any outside - I have given copies to some trusted neighbours and relatives if I ever get locked out. The spare is for when my parents come over to visit.
