It disgusts me. I dislike piercings. I suppose the ear is okay, since there's no major organs or anything major that you're hindering or puncturing.
But oral piercings scare me the most. I mean...c'mon. To have a hole in your mouth or tongue? Plus, when you talk, it's words and "clickclickclick". And won't the metal rust? x-x

actually, no offense, but you should never base your opinions from one source,
and obviously, whoever wrote that article was not very well informed on the matter (at all)
everyone who has a tongue pericing knows that you can get a plastic um... tongue/insert/whatever you call it
which only causes irritation in most cases when you're alergic to the plastic material
when plastic replaces the metal, enamal wear is halted, which is really the cause of all the dental problems, in addition, infection rate is lowered, and teeth chipping is a not.
my cousin actually has one, not for the above purupses, but because metal peircings, being as heavy on the tongue as they are, draw out the peircing, making an unsightly drawn-out line, which is completely avoided with a plastic piercing
of course, you do have to have the initial pierce with a metal part if i'm not mistaken
Anyways, as for my opinion on them, i am getting a few lip peircings, but not ever a tongue piercing, because while they look cool, everyone knows they really only have one purpose, sex. lawl

Well I have to say that I've had really good experiences with tongue piercings. I have my tongue pierced in two places. I have to say I have a really high pain tolerance so my tongue didn't really swell at all afterwards, and my dentist hasn't found anything wrong with my teeth yet, but he wasn't very happy when I showed up with a second one.
It all just depends on who you go to. I go to a professional, my bff went to some cheap shop and her tongue got really huge and infected and it was horrible. I told her to take it out and she still wanted it done.
So I told her to go to the place I went to. They charged a bit more, but her tongue didn't swell again, besides the norm, and she was fine.
I'm also going to get a Monroe done. It's on the upper lip done, on one of the corners. I can't wait.

@ secret; i was thinking of getting a monroe done, but i'm not sure if it would look good unless you have a somewhat thin lip...
also, how do you get two tongue peircings?

@ForkoFried
Yeah I have nice lips, and every one I ask says I would look good in it.
Well I had my first one done, it was kind of in the middle of my tongue, then I had another one done above that one a bit.
Let me see if I can find my camera and take a picture.
You can have your tongue done I believe like...four times.
If I remember correct.
*edit*
It looks a little like this.
here
Except mine are a little closer together.
I'm still going to look for my camera.

If it’s taken care of and people take out the piercing at the slightest sight of infection and see a doctor about it if there is a problem then I say go for it and get on, if you want. While I personally wouldn’t get one, I know some people that piercing look awesome on. You do have to be careful too about chipping teeth and things like that. Getting it accidentally caught on something and ripped out would suck too, but that’s the same risk as with any piercing.

Eh, I would never get my tongue pierced. I heard it could ruin your teeth, and we already spent a lot on braces. I'm not gonna do anything that may mess up my teeth.
And it's just not an attractive feature to me. People say it's sexy, but it's more of a distraction for me. I wouldn't get one even if there were no side-effects.

Uh, if it's pierced in the right place, the piercing won't click against your teeth.
And... obviously they use metals that won't rust?

You actually really shouldn't get one until your piercing's healed, and the plastic you get is pretty hard anyway.
But I think I've said this about a bajillion times... if you get it pierced right, by a piercer who knows a thing or two about placement, then the chipping will be at a minimum.

Honestly, oral piercings look nice to me. >____>
I really actually like the ringed lips and the little balls that you can attach to the tongue x3<3
They're always going to be side effects, and you just have to be aware of them.
Going to a nice, clean, professional looking piercing booth is always another good thing to do.
Search around.
Ask Questions.
Consult yourself, and physicians in order to choose the best one.

- I've had two lip piercings for two and a half years and I've never had any of those side effects except for a little swelling right after I got them done.

Actually, take it from experience.
I've began to notice that people with full lips look quite amazing with oral piercings, and those with thinner mouths(depending on the jewelry type and piercing itself), look quite a bit fuller.

I can't say I'm really surprised there.
It seems to me like the one part of the whole "scene" trend that is ending would be the lip rings.. thank god. But, only to be replaced once again by nose piercings- namely studs.
I think fad piercings are ridiculous.
I really hope you'd have a better reason for wanting to get it done, but that's none of my business.
I know how the whole charade goes.
I can definitely relate!
Where I come from there aren't many pierced or modified people in general,
aside from the people who think that they're total bad asses for getting an eyebrow ring or the typical "scene" kids.

Tongue piercings disgust me.
Here are some facts for you all from a piercing apprentice.
- The human mouth is the home to more germs and forms of bacteria than your average unclean public restroom.
- Tongue piercings are generally more unclean than genital piercings.
- The risk factor for tongue piercings is extremely high, there are A LOT of things that could not only go wrong, but cause quite a bit of long-term damage. [ clipping a vein or nerve, profuse swelling, chipped teeth and etc.]
Now about the jewelry.
- Inner oral jewelry is a lot easier to lose in a multitude of ways. If your piercer didn't provide enough room to accomodate the swelling, you could potentially lose the entire piece inside of the tissue, swallow a ball, or the entire piece.
- Steel verses plastic: While plastic may seem to be the ideal piece to protect your teeth, it's not. There are toxins in low grade plastic jewelry that can find a way into the hole and cause a worse infection.
Surgical steel is in fact a hazard to your teeth and can wear down the enamel over time.
* A must known fact about any body piercing is that despite what anyone tells you; they never fully heal.
Some adjust to/with your body, some do not.

Psh, fads, how lame!
If you knew me i would not let it go to accuse me of such stupidity, lawl!
I can't stand the emo kids, and scenies are like emos, so i don't like them either.
Barely any of them even know what real emo music is... well was
it's so funny when people call fall out boy emo! xD
anyways... i want a lip ring because i've pierced my lip beofre, and liked it. (mind you, that was with a saftey pin, and i took it out immediatly because that was when i passed out if someone even said blood, lawl!)

The funny thing about scene kids though..
At least the boys are kind of cute.
The girls on the other hand all look like poofy-haired raccoons with bad extensions.
It's almost like they HAVE to wear EVERYTHING they own every day!
I mean jeeze, I understand layering for fashion.. but that's just too much!
Big difference between class and trash people.
Don't even get me started on the music though. Seriously I'd rant forever.
Back to the topic though.
I don't recall my lip ring bleeding, but out of all of the piercings I have or have had it probably stung the most.
The healing process went along fine, swelling wasn't an issue because my bottom lip is more full than the top anyways.
The only problem I had with it was when I was cleaning it and I had a small, hardened build-up of lymph.. Well cleaning it didn't help it go away so I did the most idiotic thing ever.. I picked it off.
It wasn't lymph, it was a piece of hardened skin just beginning to adjust.
So yeah.. tiny little scar there if my jewelry is out, but otherwise you cannot tell.
I didn't have too much trouble with my vertical labret either, it was just mostly paranoia and fear of it rejecting.. which it didn't.
I still have it, although I had to downgrade the jewelry a couple times, and it still looks amazing.
The only problem I've ever had with it was figuring out how to drink without a straw after it had gone through the healing process.
But I'm fine now.
I haven't experienced any of the issues the topic starter mentioned.
Nor have I ran into any of it aside from tongue piercings and the occasional "I got into a fist fight and they did such and such."
Otherwise oral piercings are fine, and I'm not just speaking from my experiences alone.
About the blood. I've never had any phobia like that, but I'm sure it's terrible.
I think that the one piercing I got that bled the most after the piercing period would be my anti-eyebrow.
I don't mind blood at all, it like people, fascinates me.

I don't get the point in getting a piercing you will probably one day have to take out anyway >.> Plus all the risks.... I knew a girl who got her tongue pierced and couldn't eat solid foods for a while... and had to use mouth wash after eating anything to prevent infections. I really just don't think it is worth the hassle.

I definitely agree~!
I have pretty full lips and everyone I know agree that my lip piercing suits me very well.
However, it also depends on the shape of your mouth & anatomy of your face.
