I had my tongue pierced twice and never had any problems. It will be different for everyone though. I have friends that have damaged their teeth because of the tongue piercing.
I know it's bad but i just want a simple lip ring. I refuse to pierce my tounge! Eww. I have a habit of playing with extras on something like string on clothes and pulling them. So if i get a tounge piercing I might pull it out and swallow it or something. plus I heard it's more painful than a lip piercing so i really don't want one!
i want to get a lip piercing, the only thing is, is that i am afraid of needles, and now im even more scared, i dont think that i will now, or i dont know, i might.
I think if you want it bad enough to put a needle through your body, than I think you would want to keep it clean to cause you less issues and so that the piercing does not reject.
On the other hand, dentists have issues with oral piercings cause people end up playing with them far too much and their gums start receding and sometimes chip their teefies on the jewelry.

But I can't because I'm on a competitve swim team and I doubt a lip ring would benefit to my swimming 13+ hours a day. D;
I had pierced my tongue and had to take it out because it didn't want to heal. I've also had 9 other piercings and I had no problems with those. I got my first piercing 10 years ago and my last one almost 5 years ago -I don't know why people think piercing is a fad - fads don't last as long as piercing has - especially with piercing already being 'popular' when I did mine 10 years ago.
I don't see the big deal - as long as people care for it properly and aren't excessively stupid about it piercings are mostly harmless.
Piercings must be cleaned properly - and to help lessen the damage to teeth one can put acrylic balls on the barbell - the only drawback to the acrylic is that they will eventually dry out and crack (I'm talking years here though) so it's a good idea to keep extra on hand.)
I think piercings are one of the better ways to experiment with appearances since they are not nearly as permanent as tattoos and can be removed for professional or formal events if need be.
