Well, what do you think about it? It's new, flashy, fresh, crisp new feeling... with CRAPPY functionality. Well that's my opinion at least.
I got XP by accident when I was supposed to get Vista. My mom got the Vista laptop, and I tried it only to find out it was a lame operating system. It's more prone to viruses than ever. Microsoft made it secure only if you make your computer extremely limited. Then, maybe Vista will show a little bit of decency in security.
But come on, only notable difference is the graphics? Microsoft, this was a major disappointment.

I myself haven't experienced Vista.
When it first came out, I wanted it badly...
Never heard of this crappy side of it, though. o.o;
It's reassuring, nonetheless, since now I don't feel left out all that much. =P

Trust me, you're not missing out on anything except on nice looking graphics, and a friggin virtual guardian angel that asks you permission for everything.

Not just that, there's some driver that seems to have no purpose other than to block the wireless internet....
Seriously. I can't get Wireless on here anymore (and I used to; I'm still supposed to). And I have tried everything that I'm supposed to do; it hasn't worked.
And I didn't notice for a while that it saved files in formats that couldn't be opened on older systems...
Plus, almost NOTHING is formatted for it. *doesn't like it*

I haven't had a single problem with security and I'm always on the internet. I use freeware protection programs too. My xp has gotten various problems and I used norton but my vista is doing just fine without any fancy protection programs.
The only time vista is ever a bit slow is when I use the start menu and I use object dock so I never really use the start menu anyways..
Then only thing that bugged me was all of the trial programs that came with vista, the lame game arcade thing, (it took a while to find them all and uninstall them) and when it asks permission for a lot of things.

Maybe your XP machine runs slow because Norton is a really REALLY crappy anti-virus and it also probably runs slow because you've had it for more time than Vista and therefore you've exposed it to more "damage".
XP is king I tell ya.

I haven't heard really good things for vista, until I know they fixed the bugs in it and get to be as friendly as XP is, no I'm not upgrading to Vista, XP is fine by me. Vista seemed to be even more crappy than the latest Macs, and normally Macs have a lot of things go wrong when you don't want them to do wrong.

I got vista in my laptop. I actually like it, it looks neat. I don't have any problem with virus or spywares, I don't even run scans. As far as user-friendly is concerned, I thought it's as good as XP. I haven't encountered any problems so far, I've been using this for 3 months now.
I think my major complaint is that I cannot use our scanner with vista, but I use that with the desktop anyway. :3

There is a webcomic out there somewhere that describes how I feel about Vista. I really enjoy using my computer, which has XP on it. It's compatible with all the MMO's I play. It doesn't randomly freeze and shut down because memory is being used, it doesn't ask me to authorize nearly every single web page I open or game I open or song I download. My mothers computer is BRAND NEW with Vista on it. It's never used for the internet, and for some reason it constantly has problems. It won't recognize the scanner or the printer, it freezes all the time. It was a 1800 dollar computer, fairly decent specs if not great ones, and it's nice looking.. It's just.. The biggest problem with it is Vista itself. It's frustrating to try and show her how to use it, too, because it's just barely different enough than XP to be a pain in the rear.

I've heard so many bad things about Vista that I don't want it. I've got XP on my computer, and I've only had limited experience with Vista on the school computers. But I've heard it's really bad and that it won't let you play most online games and all this stuff. x_x Sounds almost as bad as a Mac. I won't get a Mac for the same reason. Nothing is compatible with it. You can't play games on it or use certain programs. Otherwise they make decent computers. Anyways, my mom keeps saying I need a new laptop, because this one has problems connecting to the internet sometimes and for some reason doesn't pick up wireless connections from as far away as other people's computers do. x_x But if I got a new one, it would have Vista on it, so I don't want to. I have to wait until I get my new computer to try out Vista. I've heard that it's crap, but it's hard to find XP anywhere anymore.

Is it really any surprise to you that Microsoft sopped at Vista? I have vista on this notebook, no choice since they're putting it on all these new laptops without bothering to think on how STUPID that is. Visually, hell yes Vista is pleasing, but it's still slow as heck. That's MS for you though, they only do half the job with their products because they're in such a rush to get them out. And all they do is copy, no other reason that XBox was created. If everyone else is doing it and doing it good, MS will be right behind them trying to stick their nose in stuff and STILL screwing it up.
I can say though, that I love XP, which is on my desktop. I believe it is service pack two. At any rate, it works perfectly, never had any problems with it, just wonderful. Now if XP had the graphics Vista has ... F Vista. I would avoid it as much as possible.

I have had my computer with XP on it for a long time. It normally works fine for me, but I have been wanting a new computer for a while now simply because I want one that can play more games. Well, my boyfriend's uncle bought a computer for him that had Vista on it. He let me use it. About half an hour in, I was ready to take a baseball bat to a brand new computer. =/ (However, it should be noted that I am also easy to irritate and I really would never beat something so expensive with a bat. xD )
It's horrible. Games that are supposed to be compatible with Vista simply will not work and some of them just disappear, like they've been uninstalled when no one has touched them. I really don't know what this problem is all about. Like someone else said, it asks you permission for even the simplest of things. It also doesn't do as much as XP. There are some music file types that just won't work with Vista, which is kind of confusing, because isn't it supposed to be an better than XP? For example, I have one of those voice recorder things. I tried to play the file on Vista, and it wouldn't recognize it.
It just wasn't what I hoped it was going to be. This is my mistake, but I wanted something that could do more than my XP and was just as easy to use. Vista is not that so back to the XP I go!
My boyfriend and I have since given up on the Vista and now my mom has it. It still gives her problems though. I haven't even really asked what they are because I have no idea how to fix it and don't want to get annoyed at the thing all over again. xD

A lot of people do not like vista and that is because it is not as compatible with alot of stuff out there hardware and application wise. As well as people trying to put vista onto computers not built for it, Microsoft pushing DRM and such. Now dell one of the few companies still selling xp is being cut off from Microsoft oem.
With all that said it will do what it needs to do for most basic stuff. There will be updates and service packs etc. For some people that's fine. However, for a lot it isn't. Microsoft having a government instigated monopoly I think needs to go out there really fix the issues..that's just me.
I suppose the other option is not updating, using an old xp or considering another os like mac or Linux etc. I personally run xp and ubuntu and i've used vista on both my parents laptops. Either way as long as the os you have does what it needs to do for you that's all that matters.
