Well, I do suspect it and I never say anything cause I did'nt know there was something wrong with doing that. And honestly I never took a test before posting in the forums or whatever you said about taking a test. And by the way I do it every once in a while like lol, or something.

I don't like reading posts that are full of bad grammar.
Also, when people don't bother using apostrophes or
capitalization, I usually leave those topics. You could
say that I'm too lazy to figure out what they're trying
to say. It's funny sometimes, but not in discussions.

What I find funny is that there are some words that people type can be really longer than the word actually is. I thought short handing everything was to make it so there was less letters... I guess I was wrong.
You know..that's the sort of typing that just gets to me. It's like when people replace y's, with "ie" like in "prettie, sexie, funnie" >_o

Every once in a while I'd be talking to someone, and I can't help but notice some people typing knoe, instead of know; it's like, "Wow, you're not even trying to "shorten" your words, you're just being damn annoying."

Interesting that the New Zealand schools would allow such a thing, it defeats the purpose of spelling classes. x.x

Still, no one has answered the question of "How do the people who chatspeak feel about everyone and their dislike for illiteracy?" xD

I bet that's because not many of us on Mene use it to the point of illiteracy? XD Either that or they really are lazy. =P

I absolutely cannot STAND it when people do not type with proper grammar and spelling. Sure, if they aren't native speakers, I'm totally fine, but c'mon. x_x

Most people here are native English speakers. x_x Is it so hard to type out a word? And besides, on Mene, you get gold for longer posts. ;]

I typed like that a couple of years ago actually. I know, hard to believe xD I'm always holding myself back from correcting others, though I still do anyway sometimes. Really, after I became accustomed to typing quickly and neatly, I found that not only did the community give me a little more respect, but also that I myself had enjoyed reading my posts a little more.
I checked on my myspace messages that I had sent in 2005 to other friends just a little over 2 years ago. The leet speak and slang in there made me wanna bite myself xD

XD Tell me 'bout it. I re-read old myspace messages, and the thought of how others interpreted my typing back then haunted my thoughts for a long 2-3 days! XD

I am against chatspeak. A lot.

And it's funny, because I used to use to to the extreme...Just thinking about it makes me cringe. And yet, at the same time...The thought of it seems so fuzzy and long ago.

I don't use anything now except 'Brb'. And I'm even trying to stop using that.

I really don't like it when others use it either. It looks so lazy and messy. Most of the people who use it have been to school, and know at LEAST the basics of grammar and spelling. There's no reason to use it.

So it may be faster, that's not really an excuse. Words are meant to be spelled out, not abreviated (sorry if I spelled that wrong) constantly.

And some of the things are so rediculous. Plis, pliz, plx, they don't even sound like Please. Don't even get me started in 'Pl0x' *shudders*

I never really voice my opinion when I see someone using it.

Unless I'm feeling really bitchy...

I use acronyms from time to time, like the "lol", "wtf", "brb", and "bbl". I use the "lol" to express myself when I think something is hilarious or funny to me. Do I care if it annoys others? No, not really. Because we all do something on the internet that annoys someone else, so why walk on egg shells? On Menewsha, I try to be literate as I can, but I'm just a bad speller to begin with. Though, another reason why I try talking, or typing literately is because I don't enjoy reading leet speak either. Well, a whole sentence thats typed in leet speak anyway. The "lol", "wtf", "brb", and "bbl", are okay with me though. They have a use if your in a hurry or if you want to express yourself. Well, thats my opinion anyway.

@ James: I agree wholeheartedly.
And as for the plx. I don't understand how that came into existence, I mean, "Plcross?! Plzeroex? You for serious?"

@ Iced-anime: Yeah, I'm thankful my computer-illiteracy never crossed over into the real world. ;_;
Woot! Someone recognizes it! <3 You rock. ;D

I'm capable of doing chat or L337 speak, but generally I don't, or even shirk off on capitalizing things where they should be. (Which is another trend I see a lot, almost more than the L337 Sp34k on Mene. The L337 almost bothers me less than 'i cant be bothered to capitalize or punctuate', if perhaps because since I used to play a character who used L337 occasionally, I've noticed that for full 'l337' it's almost -harder- that just typing out the full sentence, at least it is for me. Of course I think there may be a bit of difference between "Leet" and "Chatspeak", but blah blah.
I think Leet doesn't really have much point on Mene, since it's shorter, most people find it a bit of a headache to read, and is sort of against the rules, but just plain old 'lazy typing' has even less point, since if you were in an RP, an character might be sending messages in the former style, but unless they're supposed to be a pretty stereotypical young net chatter, hopefully not the latter.
Some of the chat speak stuff is just terribly terribly strange though. Amusingly so.

i don't think it's a matter of laziness at all.
most people just type like that because they think it's funny.
And i don't see how typing like that (as long as it's understandable) could be offensive to anyone!
It's just stupid how people get annoyed by chat speak (unless they specifically asked those not to do so )
I mean it's not like we're in english class so chill out!

On the contraire, i personally get annoyed how on sites like menewsha (were you get gold per letter) people purposefully write extra to make their statement longer.
It happens alot on here, especially in General discussion and roleplay.
They just find like five ways to say "i'm hungry" or anything else simple, and think themselves superior to those who just get to the damn point!

I started off using full sentences, no abbreviations, spelling, capitalization, etc (though my grammar likely sucks). But I've lapsed over the years into using a few little acronyms. Mostly just "lol", but sometimes "wtf" and "omg". I don't really even mind if people use chatspeak or l3375p34k anyways, I can read either. ^_^

Every once in a while, I'll use some leet but never to the point of annoyance. I'll use leet in text messages (I only have 250 characters per text) or where I am limited. That kind of writing has never transfered into my school writing though. I know that short hand is a no no for school papers.

Oh jeez. That reminded me of the state that now allows chatspeak on the state's standardized tests. Eww. =[

neh.. some people just can't type. especially if english is not their native language.

And I don't think there is anything wrong with k, wtf or lol, unless you use them too much >.<
I have some friends on gaia who start a sentence using lol and also end it with one. it's so annoying and you never know when they are serious O.o

but then again, using "ur" is better than saying "your" when you mean "you are".. x) atleast in my opinion.

I don't ever use chatspeak, and do find it rather annoying.. or really annoying as the case may be. It hurts my eyes trying to understand leet speak... >.<

If you knew me and we were texting you'd find my texts are as perfect of grammar I can make them. To the point I 'type' my thumbs raw. Even using my PSP I must type everything correctly and that's slower than using a cell phones keypad.

I do my best to try ignore it and if a person gets annoying I tend to say I've got to go and leave for a bit then return and try to keep out of the topic the person's talking about. But sometimes I will say something, especially if I like the person, but not the way they type. Many are understandable and actually stop and writing as correctly as I am now.

I understand those who don't have English as their first language would shorten but some do try and some try better than those who actually have English for their first language which I find rather sad.

I understand personal flare but I don't see why people would want to be judged upon the way they type before who they are. Most look upon that way of typing signifying a noob or a complete ditz.. Not me mind you, I try not to judge until I get to know the person.

I do admit I am one of those that use inappropriate grammar but there is always a tiem and a place for it and on menewsha is not one of them. I use the best grammar I can and for me that’s really not all that great. D:

The only time r, u, or k should be used is in sending a text for the fact that you are limited on how many words can be used it takes up less to shorten things. I am guilty of using wtf here however, habits are hard to break what can I say? I use it not because it’s shorter but because I don’t wish to get banned for saying what the F is supposed to be. >>

The only thing I’m bad about doing is putting smiley faces in things. Roleplaying would be the only place I watch completely what I’m doing and that’s because I hate when people use them when they are supposed to be literate so I make it a point not to do it.

I really dislike when people type like 'r u ok?' It looks lazy and seriously it takes me longer to read it. I generally only use some abreviations.

lol, lmao, wtf, btw, stfu, and omg.

Those are the only ones I remember and make sense (to me that is). People use QFE all the time and it took me forever to figure out what it meant. There are some others I've had to look up before (thank you google).

I really only use chatspeak when I'm chatting with friends in instant messenger and we're doing it to look stupid/act like noobs.
