I think she has a boyfriend back home, but the way she's acting with one of the guys here, it's very boyfriend/girlfriend like. Very. To intimate and snuggly to be girl--friend/boy--friend...
*tries to ignore giggles coming from her bed*
I don't think anything other than making out has happened yet...

yay for evil dragons!!
O.o That's not uncommon at Harlaxton High, kas. My roommates talked about it a lot. Not that they were participating in those kinds of activities. I don't think.... but people they knew were. There were plenty of break-ups too. Whether the two were on opposite sides of the "pond," or they were at Harlaxton together. Hence, Harlaxton High.
Anyway, kas, you should think about coming down to Rennes. After all, there are some relatively cheap flights into Dinard from East Midlands (or London Stansted). And that's only a 10 euro bus ride away from me! Plus, I'm sure my host mom wouldn't mind putting you up for a night or two (we'd just pull out a matress for you and I'd probably have to ask permission a good deal in advance). Could be an alternative for the Paris weekend? Or I could come up to Paris that weekend instead. It's only a two hour train ride and I have Friday afternoons off. Plus, as long as I get back to Rennes by 11:00 on Sunday night, I can easily get back to my host family's. So, it's not as difficult as you think!

I find this soo odd you guys can actually jsut hop borders and see each other,....then again I feel chained here. Other than that, I hope to somehow get all homwork done and can jsut stay with mark for a few days.

Well, dragon, we may be able to just hop borders, but it can actually be pretty expensive. Like, to visit Lauren at Harlaxton (and then go down to London for a few days) over my week-long Toussaint break at the end of October, it costs about $546 for travel and accomodation. If you add in food, you're over $600.
But, don't feel chained! Don't forget that you can take a $40 greyhound trip to Louisville, KY and my mom would be glad to host you for a few days getaway! And Evansville isn't so hard to get to, either. There are commuter flights between Chicago and Evansville at all hours of the day every day of the week! Of course, the flights would cost more than a simple bus ride down to Kentucky......

You could get free meals at Harlaxton and perhaps my meet-a-family. I'm sure they'd want to meet you. And, I think, but am not positive, that both my roomies are going to the Bath trip, which means you could get two free nights.
And, apparently, ryan air is having a bunch of free flights right now? You still have to pay all the stupid fees though.
And my coming there is impossible. There are no flights between Dinton and East Midlands on Thursdays and Saturdays. The flight on Wednesday leaves at 18:55, and I would have to take a taxi, which equals the air fare, 'cause it would be impossible to get their via train.
Then coming back, I'd be getting in at 10, and the last train runs at 8-something. And then the taxi would be more expensive than the air fare. Right now, it's about 35 pounds each way, and about 20 pounds (if I take a 1 am taxi, then get into grantham at 4 in the morning) for a train. 88 pounds for taxi round trip.
For getting to CDG, I'd have to fly out of Luton, so 56 pounds (at the cheepest) for train, and another 48 pounds for the flight. That's leaving Friday morning and coming back sunday, as I don't really see the point to spending a day in Paris by myself. I'd feel safer being with someone... I'd have to come back early Sunday so I can actually get a train. Then probably 60 pounds for a hostel. It would be easier for me to get to Paris - less limited flight options... 164 just for the travel, which is almost $300. 185 pounds = $303...

Ah. I found considerably cheaper train tickets to London. www.raileasy.co.uk. 25 L.
And I don't think you read that it's easy enough for me to get to Paris and stay there for more than a day. I can travel Friday afternoons and there are busses going back to my stop in Rennes until midnight. For travel and a hostel room for two nights, it would cost me $145.
kas, you're also going on the Bath trip. Are you meaning the Lake District trip? In any case, that week would still be close to $550-$580 because Nattie isn't allowed to host someone in her dorm room. And technically, you're not allowed to either.
And really, it all depends on what mom can scare up.

Yes. Technically. But if my roomies aren't here, no one but us would know. It would only cause a problem...well, I don't really see how it would cause a problem.
And i'm going to talk to heather tomorrow about staying here (not in my room sort of here) because online it says "students around the same age as the harlaxton student" is 25L a night... The security guy told me 40-50 (I think) but I didn't specify that you were a student and a little older than me. I'll see what Heather says.
'cause the 25L thing was what that B&B in Grantham was right? If it's still the same, then you can just stay in the manor or carriage house, which would make it easier to coordinate. And you wouldn't need to pay until you got here.
and yeah, I meant lake district.
edit: So I was playing around with trains. (Yes, perhaps more expensive)... For the long-weekend, I could come over to Rennes by train, and it would be easier to arrange than flying. And cheeper than going to Paris for two nights.
The most complicated way is 157L (including a taxi to get me back to the Manor). 19L each way for Grantham to London St. Pancras. 24L for St. Pancras to Paris gare Du Nord. then I'd have to figure out how to get to Paris Montparnasse to catch the TGV to Renne which is 31L. Coming back (at 8 in the morning) 21L to Paris Montparnasse. Paris Gare Du Nord to London 38L, and London to Grantham another 19L. Taxi would be 6L...
Less complicated: 147L. 19L to London, London to Rennes with a changeover (that I should look up) 45L, Rennes to London (leaving at 9am) 58L, and then 19L back to grantham and the taxi 6L.
Least complicated - Grantham straight to Rennes (buying all of the ticket from one source). 154L round trip, including taxi.
It's cheeper than Paris, which works better for traveling than going to Rennes because of timing. That is, if I don't have a hostel. It would be Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights. So, without food, just under $300. That will probably be more do-able for Mom... But I have to make sure I book at least two weeks in advance. (This is looking at it a little under 2 months in advance)

Yay! (This has to do with role-playing, right?)
Tomorrow I leave at a tres bon heure (aka very early) in the morning for Normandy!! 8:00 AM is the rendez-vous time. Blech.... BUT, I will be seeing several WWII memorials, the Bayeux Tapestry, and a prehistoric rock formation! Yay! Plus, it's going to be really nice weather, which will be excellent for the WWII memorials since they're all along to the D-Day beaches.... YAY!!!
Kas, as for trains, an interesting idea that I hadn't thought of. Although, it doesn't solve my problem of what to do for my break.... Because, if it's cheaper for you to visit me, then there's not much need for me to go up to England, is there? Yet, I don't want to be "stuck" here in Rennes either. My host family is already concerned enough about me on the level of social interaction!! I really, really, really, really want to go with a friend (Teresa) to Italy, though.... That would be so wonderful.... and about 80-90 dollars cheaper than England... Which is only due to the difference in exchange rates....
Anyway, dragon, I hope your entrapment feeling passes! It's not fun to feel bound to one place! Especially when there are social tensions..... Are things going better on that plane?

mmm...
True.
I think I found the place that the security guy was talking about. "something lodge" I saw it on my way back from meet-a-family. It's diagonally across from the Greg.
ehhhhhhhhhhh ded kas. got up at about 8 to get ready for church. The shuttle left at 9:25. We got to the church at 9:35, and mass started at 10. At 10:30, the kids were kicked out, and then mass ended at 11:30. Coffee and tea downstairs until about 12:15, then we went to her neighbour's house for lunch. Didn't sit down to eat until almost 1. And then there was desert, and talking... Got back to Harlaxton 4;45.
And last night, I went to bed before midnight. And my roomies woke me up at 1ish, so I didn't manage to fall back asleep until like 2.

Okay. So, there are some people here who need to get a life. Particullary the ones who have mommies and daddies with fat wallets and get smashed EVERY single night. Throwing up on the floors, and the floors in bathrooms. peeing in trashcans. throwing up on the OUTSIDE doorstep to the Dean's appartment. Coming back NOISLY at all hours of the night.
Seriously, was it that bad your semester nee-chan?

Aww!! Hope you feel better soon, Dragon!! I've a bit of a cold myself. Scratchy throat and all that....
And I don't think my semester was that bad..... At least, I never heard of anything like that. I mean, the bathrooms in the bistro always smelled like saw dust, but.... I mean, we were told CONSTANTLY that we were one of the best semesters they've had, so.... I have a feeling we probably weren't as bad as this semester. But, it could just be that I was naive. Although I did hear stories from past semesters. Like why they don't have any microwaves in the school except for in the movie room..... That one wasn't so lovely......
