I've updated the rules today, I know we don't usually announce it when we've done that, but this update requires the people it effects to contact the staff ^^
This is what's been added..
Quote:
Multiple accounts on the same IP
Because a number of users have family members/room mates who also belong to Menewsha, and access it via the same computer, we often end up with a number of accounts using the same IP. If this is the case in your household or dorm, we ask you to contact a staff member and let us know who everyone is to avoid future confusion.
Please be aware though, we may ask for proof that the accounts do belong to seperate people, and we will check regularly for suspicious activity between them.
The ruling that 2 accounts on the same IP cannot converse together applies here also, regardless of whether the account belongs to someone else.
|
So, if you have more than one person accessing Mene from the one PC, do contact us and let us know who everyone is, so we can make a note of them.
This will help us to avoid any mix ups or accusations of excessive mule creation at a later date.
Thank you!

My roommate and I connect to the internet through our college's internet service so we may or may have the same IP address. Plus when I'm at my boyfriend's house, I regularly get on Mene and vice versa. My sister's also is on Mene occasionally at my house although on a different computer. So will I have to account for every permutation of location and people?

It would be a great help to us if you could, yes.
We don't need reams of evidence, just who's likely to appear on your list regularly.
I should add something about room mates maybe. Though for some, if they're using a PC in the school library, it wouldn't be possible to list everyone, so we have to draw the line somewhere.
If your sister uses a different computer she shouldn't show up on your IP ^^

I have a question. My friend from school had created an account before me, then invited me here, then quit. His sn is yusaku godai, and i want a mule but i know that account is under my IP, and i believe another account is under my IP aswell because my brother made an account (i think he made it a girl though) but then never used it. So i was wondering if you can just ban both of those accounts or delete them or whatever, because i want my own mule rather than their left over accounts. Does that make sense?

I'm assuming this sort of thing is regular use from the IP address? I use campus computers, and I'm unsure if anyone else around here is on Varus, but I tend to flit around the computer labs. I'd hate for there to be problems because others are using the same computers/IP as I, when we don't even know each other. XD
If it's IP of origin...Then the same problem could occur, I guess. Although it'd be highly unlikely. The whole scenario is unlikely, but who knows. ^^;

If I use a friend's computer, are we at risk of banning? I mean, do we have to inform you all of every friend whose computer we might be sharing when we visit them in the future?

No, it's only if there's more than 2 accounts which show up regularly on your IP, and if they all have a large amount of posts listed, this shows that people at that address are logging into more than 2 accounts frequently.
If you sign in at your friends house, or elsewhere, there's usually just a limited amount of posts showing.
We always check anyway, we wouldn't just ban someone without asking lots of questions first, not unless we had plenty of evidence to prove they were cheating.

I've already explained to Aeris my situation. My younger sister Elizabeth kept "fogetting" her username and/or password, so she'd make a new account every so often. (Cause she's lame like that.) So she's got a few accounts; which are quite noticable, cause some include her name. But yeah. The only account she should and wants to continue using is Elizabeth and possibly her mule LizzyClegg, but I'm not too sure on that one.
The only accounts I use are Jennifer and Bumuu (my mule).
Also, the savy19 account was my cousin Savannahs'. We made it at her house and she'd get on her account over here at mine. But she doesn't get on Menewsha anymore, it never really interested her; as you can tell by the ammount of posts that account has.

Okay, so the list is long, but it exists. My friend and I access our accounts from my home, work (we work at the same place), beach house, library, Panera (XD), school, and other friends homes. =S
So there's probably a lot of weird stuff like we all log on from one IP for a week, then we all log on from a different IP another day, etc. xD
Padfootsy (me)
Corinne (my mule)
Georgedemonkey (roommate)
^she has a mule but I forget the name
Tehaxx - (friend)
Gin (friend)
My little sister also has an account, but I can't remember the name.
ALSO: I made a mule name Padsy a long time ago, then forgot about it. I don't want it!
edit: the reason we would all have the same IP address is because almost everyone here uses wireless internet.

I'm not seeing as to why this matters. Personally, I don't see why we should have to tell you who is using our computer. I also don't think you should draw the line on dorms either with the same IP address because to only allow so many people from a certain IP address or range is picking and choosing and would seem like poor judgement on someone's part here. Then again, if you guys want to limit the potential amount of users you have ultimately that would be one way of going on about it. Let's not forget the fact that this could be bending potential privacy rules of the internet. As far as I know, I'm the only one with an account (two, really) here unless my sister has one unbeknownst to me.
