Look, I know all the hype about the princesses. They're bad. They're ruining children's self-confidence because they don't look like these cartoon heroins! Look at how they dress, it's scandalous! Look at the evil, and they way they are only completed by a man! How sexist can Disney be, anyway? I understand all this, but I also don't care. If Disney is ruining our children, so be it, but let me enjoy by princesses, eh?

I love the way they move, talk, sing and yes, even the way they fall in love. I am absolutely in love with every single one of them, but my favourite has always been Ariel. I like to look up to Mulan and Pocahontaus... or however you spell her name. They really are fascinating characters, and worth the exploration.

Now, I'm going to ask you, what do you like about the Disney princesses? What don't you like? Who's your favourite? Why? Who do you hate? Tell me everything!

I always loved Disney Princesses when I was a wee kiddie.
x3;
I used to dress up as them all, I had this huge trunk full of Disney Princess dress up clothes with my mom's old jewelry and tiaras.
I'd play with it for hours on end.
Personally I always loved when they sang, because I loved singing and I'd sing along with them.
And during the parts where they were fighting for their love.
Great stuff.
O:
My Favorite was Ariel, Because I wanted to be a mermaid.
And swim around all day.
With a Tail.
Oh yeah that would have been EPIC.

For halloween I remember being Cinderella, Belle, and Jasmine. Yippe for recap of childhood memories, although every costume had something bad happen -sniffles-
Cinderella got a tear on the bottom, Belle same thing as cinderella, and the jasmine costime had a holei n the pants x3
I used to love them as a kid, they were pretty to me and the movies were just great!

My favorites are Princess Jasmine, Mulan
(technically she's not a princess btu she awesome), Pocahantus (she is a princess but they never show her, Belle (she's not a princess), Aurora (she's a princess...and yeah).

I don't hate any of them but I just wish when they advertise stuff for the princesses they would include Jasmine and Pocahantus.

I heard theres supposed to be a new princess. I'm not sure on all the deatils but I think she's from Africa or something like that.

Belle! Alice!
Both of them aren't technically princesses, but you get the picture. ;D
I ALWAYS loved Belle, because she was different from the normal princesses, you know?
I probably like Alice so much because Alice In Wonderland has always been one of my favorite movies.

I never liked Cinderella though. She just never really stuck for me. She was too...something. I don't know excactly, but something that turned me off. xD

I love Jasmine. She was so cool because she did stuff. Most of the princesses just sit around, no offense to any of you, but I like the ones who did stuff more. Jasmine ran away because she was unhappy. Disguised herself as a beggar. Stood up for Aladdin when he was in trouble. And she has a pet tiger! Oh and she turns down Aladdin when he is a prince who she thinks just wants the title and the money. She loves him for him, which I admit most princesses do. Plus she also tries to fight in the end and tricks Jafar (sorry I do not know how to spell that). Then she does get stuck in the hour glass, but how is that her fault. I just always admired all that she did.

Pshh. Needed a man to complete them? Maybe in the older Disney movies, but they've become more acceptably independent and alternately motivated in the more recent titles.

Jasmine sure as hell didn't need a man. She spent the first half of the movie chasing away all of her suitors! She just wanted a life free of her royal obligations. That she just happened to find that kind of life with our pal Al is pure coincidence.

Esmerelda? She didn't need Phoebus to complete her. She was fiercely independent and tougher than nails. I think there was a point where she realized that she could in fact rely on others besides herself, but it was a big step, and she probably would have been content going it alone, had it not been for her meeting Quasi. I think she was more in search of a kindred spirit than a romance. It just happened to fall into her lap in the form of Mr. Phoebus. Coincidence!

Mulan, perhaps the butchest of all Disney princesses, pretended to be a man to join the military. Why? Certainly not to chase after her rather attractive captain... well that might have been part of it, but her PRIMARY motivation was to defend her family's honor, and to save her father from certain death on the battlefield. No romantic motivation was involved. Her relationship with the stud is still just a coincidence!

Belle wanted adventure, maybe to meet a prince charming on the way. But she was certainly no pushover.

Meg from Hercules? She was just pure nasty at times. And I'm pretty sure she initially didn't WANT to fall for a deadbeat ancient Greek superhero :D

Now that's not to say others WEREN'T motivated by the stuff you mentioned. I just thought it was worth saying that alot of Disney's heroines live up to the expectations of empowered women moreso than one would expect at first glance.

And the scandalous clothes? CMON, what would they rather have, nuns? Pshh.

I feel like I'm way too familiar with Disney films for a guy of my age. Don't you? lol

@Beri-Chan it's ok. My brother's 21, and he knows all of them as well... because I was forced to watch them all when I was little.

As you can tell by my avi, I'm not a girly-girl... I don't like princess and all that crap. No offense...

I always like the music though, and I loved the villains. Meleficant was god to me when i was 5. That and watching the Hobbit and Lord of The Rings (the cartoons by Ranklin Bass) as well as The Last Unicorn and The fight of dragons.

Being a furry I also Loved Robin Hood and The Lion King 2 (the first wasn't that good.)

Well, Ariel was my favorite because I loved the ocean. But my favorite for a good reason is Belle. I mean, she fell in love with a monster. She didn't care what he looked like? That's a nice message right there. I don't think I actually hate any of them. I can't remember a lot of the Disney movies, so maybe that's why.

@Phe-Phe - You DIDN'T like the first one but you liked the second one? Interesting. Because I think I've read somewhere that the original Lion King is considered to be up there with the most profitable disney masterpieces ever made. Not to mention, it's got Jeremy Irons in it! I don't know that anyone, save Alan Rickman, could have done as much of a show stealing performance.

One thing I found funny though... doesn't Matthew Broderick do the voice of adult Simba? He doesn't seem like the most Leonine of fellows :P

Like many of the other people who already mentioned, I don't think I dislike any of the princesses. O.o If I really had to name one I guess it would be Aurora from Sleeping Beauty but only because she...doesn't do much except sing in the woods and prick her finger. As for my ultimate favorite it's a tie between Princess Jasmin and Belle. >w< I dressed up as both of them on seperate Halloween events, my mom was pretty good at getting my hair the way the princess' were so I was happeh. XD I also love Ariel cuz being a mermaid would kick ass! Breathing underwater, swimming around, having a perdy tail, and flipping out of the water would be fun enough for me. >w<
As for the newest princess she's going to be African American and based in New Orleans *I believe but it's not set in stone yet*, the story is based off the frog prince so it ought to be interesting. >w< Oh, besides the fact that Disney is actually going to DRAW again!

My favorite Disney Princess is Jasmine. Now I'm going to be really shallow and say it's not because of anything she did in the Aladdin movies (though she is kick-ass) but because she was in a movie with my favorite Disney villain Jafar.

I love the princesses.
My favorite is probably Cinderella, but I love them all.
It's really hard to choose.
I don't get why people are so insulted be them though.

Ariel was my favourite when I was younger and then when Mulan was introduced I added her to my top as well. So really I love Ariel and Mulan - but I love pocahantas as well - I always loved that movie >w< I was such a pocahantas and lion king freak when I was younger lol - sheets and everything!
I have red hair, blue eyes, and I am a music major so even as a child people would always compare me to Ariel - I guess it's one of the reasons I loved her so much lol.
Mulan is just awesome - it's one of my favourite movies and the characters all have such great personality - she's so strongwilled but not too strongwilled that she looks MarySue - she has her faults and has to work twice as hard as the guys she is disguised among but she ultimatly succeeds over all of them because of her unique perspectives and ingenuity.
and Pocahantas is so wise and charming and she loves the forest and animals and all people. She wants a world of peace and harmony in which everyone gets along and I wish the same thing :D

Out of all the movies, I would say Snow white. Only due to I was not scared after watching the movie. However I've also seen the unofficial sequel to Snow white that involved instead of seven dwarves, but seven female magic wielding dwarves. It's one of my favorite ones despite some of the quality.

i don't think there was ever a princess i didn't like.
they all give you something to think about, to dream about, it isn't true that there isn't any reality to them.
there are women who live the life they've always dreamed in this world.
i would have to say though, that my favorite will always be cinderella. there were so many things that i can relate to with her character, and it is a great story. the same goes with sleeping beauty, tons of similarities between herself and i.

I love Belle she is my absolute favorite it makes me mad that you can never find that much beauty and the beast stuff.

To everyone that has a problem with the Disney Princesses :

Oh my god EVERYTHING these days is rotting out the minds of kids right. Just lay up on the stuff. Kids are now being ridiculed for liking the Disney Princesses. What are kids supposed to do sit in a room all day with nothing. I liked the disney princesses ja they were pretty and I wanted to be like belle or jasmine but kids grow up and relies that they can't really be like them. Just let them have fun while they are young. Little girls have to have ugly little messed up barbie dolls because people complained that little girls thought they had to be just like that. No little girls thought they had to be just like that because everyone in the media is like that. Just lay off the disney princesses.

*long post is long*
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney_Princess

I love them all in their own way.
my favorite will always be Ariel, for her courage, curiosity, and fun personality. and when something is serious, she gets serious. she is a very great character.

i disagree with people who badger on about how its bad that the Princesses need a Man. i never got that impression at all. everyone always gets on Disney about altering the stories to begin with, so if they just made them with the Princess not wanting a man at all, they'd get the verbal crap thrown at them.

each Princess is indeed independent and has their own personality. i honestly cant recall one focusing on their looks, unless you count looking in a mirror to run around outside. nor was there focus on their lineage - say one.

Disney worked them to be the Average Girl. that they indeed had Life to them besides walking around in a pretty dress.

they are nice, playful, and stood up for their friends/loves. they dressed appropriate to their surroundings, and like a lot of Princesses- they are attractive.
i fail to see how that is a bad thing.

if your child is intimidated by an animated character, then they just shouldnt be allowed to watch Disney movies or Animation with females in them.

i say you dont need to pick up a sword, be Tomboy, have a dirty face and defy your Father's orders, just so someone will declare you a "Tough Princess who doesnt need Anyone" therefore you are good for girls to admire. whats wrong with being polite and having an opinion?

even though characters of other Disney movies dont have the "Princess" title. i still consider them a Princess of their own right.

Princess Review
Snow White - to me, by far the Cutest Princess, she may not be tough in a physical sense, but she is willing to help out when its needed. she is also the Youngest, so you cant really call her stupid based on her Kind and Open Personality.

Cinderella - lol certainly not afraid to express her feelings, she did have a pretty tough life. i guess that is why she thinks of others before herself. if you mess with her friends she will come at you. she is not born of royalty- though she was born with privilege but that title was taken away.
she does prove such things are not necessary.

Aurora - seriously IMO the most Mature, every time i look at her i just get the impression that she is a Big Sister. she has Warm aura about her, i think she is just likable.

Belle - now she is definitely the average girl type. she also has a lot of focus (when its not books) on situations. i find her to be a lot better than her Fairy Tale persona. Disney's Belle questions things, she can certainly debate and she doesnt back down. her love for her Father is great. and she loved the King as a Beast and held the same love for him as a man.

Jasmine - another likable character. i like how she wants to learn (and does) do things that go outside of her Princess Duties. she is one of those characters who have matured beyond their years. she can be down right stubborn or just plain sappy. she certainly has the most expansive personality out of everyone.

Pocahontas - wow. she is just so cool. her pride just jumped off the screen. she is a bit like Ariel only lol she seems to think of things ahead of time before doing them. and she stands up for what she believes - is right. she has a strong heart, and she is dang brave.

I've always liked Ariel the most. Probably because she's a mermaid, haha. XDD
But I hate the sequel to The Little Mermaid... x.X
I really like all the other ones as well- especially Mulan's personality. I think she'd make a pretty awesome princess for China ;]
I believe the princesses are good rolemodels. They teach people to stand up for their beliefs (even if it's love in all these cases) For instance, Cinderella at least snuck into the ball, Ariel made a deal with Ursula to become human, Belle went to live with the Beast for her father's sake (and helped break the Beast's curse), Pocahontas disobeyed her father, Mulan dressed up as a guy and ran off to war. All these princesses took some risks, for love or...search of love? I dunno XD
Even though they did disobey their elders...I guess that's why some people are against these princesses as well.
