The Odyssey is an epic poem by Homer back in like, something BC.

And what's worse,I study literature...but I hat the ancients... xD
They bore me...even Shakespeare bores me...occasionally. XD

I know, it's so boring, I do like the odyssey, it is kinda nice.

You can understand it more easily then.Although those ancient Greek myths have been studied thouroughly and were re-used in modern literature.For example,James Joyce's Ulysses is based entirely on the Odyssey,but with a few twists,including the technique of the stream of consciousness...
