Ok so this year is my fist year living on my own, away from my mom and dad and brother, and now I'm living with my soon to be husband and trying to recapture the true meaning of Christmas.
It was easy as a kid Christmas was presents and turkey but now I find that I want to use Christmas as a chance to reconnect with my family and friends, but with my very limited funds and the fact that I'm on a "don't support child laber" thing I don't want to buy all my gifts and so I have decided to make all my gifts this year as a way to reconnect with my memories of my family and to try to give my family something more meaningful then I could buy.
Discus~
what Christmas means to you.
Hand made gifts.
spending Christmas with family ( or without )
Anything else you think fits.
Oh and if anyone is wondering here is a picture of the hand made key chain I made my brother its hand sculpted with polymore clay hand painted with acrylic paint. its really a lot more impressive in real life you lose a lot in the pictures.

That key chain your brother made is gorgeous. *_*
Christmas is a gathering time for families, but all my family members are halfway around the Earth, so we don't have much of that here. Nor do we have gifts. Come to think of it, my family just doesn't celebrate Christmas. xD
It's pretty sad, our family barely connects. <_< Somehow I feel as though my childhood is lacking in the love and togetherness.
*sniffles*
Um..yay Christmas?

Christmas.
Hmmm.
The really meaning to me is spending time with loved ones whether it be friends, family, neighbors, etc.
Enjoying one another's time and celebrating the birth of Christ.
Eating and listening to music, just being together.
Christmas has gone to too much commercialism these days.
All you think about are gifts, money, and getting that last toy before that crazy women next to you does.
Sad.

Religiously, Christmas is about the birth of Christ.
But everyone says it's about spending time with your family and getting gifts on Christmas morning. :?

My family and my hubby's family aren't even doing gifts this year for the adults. We are giving gifts for the kids though. We decided for the adults to play games like Bingo, watch movies, eat good food, and generally play "catch up" with all the family members. It will be a lot of fun.
I believe that Christmas is about family, not the gifts. The best gifts are hand-made, made from love. I also believe Christmas is about giving. It's one of the reasons why I donated my hair to Locks of Love today. :)

Christmas is the holiday when my family usually gets together to celebrate. My grandmother and grandfather cook a bunch of food and invite a bunch of people down to the house for this huge party. Then the teenagers and young adults go out and do something while the parents and older folk just lounge around the house. The thing is, my mother and I always have to fly out of town to enjoy that fun. This year we are not doing the trip for some reason. I did not even ask why because really, I am fine not going. Whenever we go I just complain about missing being at home or how long the trip is. So, the fact that we aren't going isn't this major issue with me. I will admit that I'll miss all of the festivities that usually take place. Like, now I have no plans for this Christmas. Maybe I'll get some. More than likely my mother will just cook and we'll have dinner together.
As far as gifts are concerned, I don't really get too wrapped up in the gifts these days. When I was younger that was all I cared about. I would be the first one up trying to get them to open the presents but no one would let me. We had to eat breakfast together, watch Price is Right, then open gifts. It was torture for me. Now, I don't really buy into that whole having to give people gifts and expecting to receive them. I don't really expect to get anything this Christmas. And frankly, at this rate the only person getting something from me is my mother and I am fine with that.

I disagree with this. Christmas isn't really about giving or receiving, but society has molded it and manipulated it to be that way. I think people buy into the organized holidays a little too much. Sure, it's nice to give and receive but it's kinda dumb. Why do people feel obligated to give someone something or expect to receive stuff from someone? Why not have the kind spirit to give people stuff year around without reason? Just because? What happened to the days when people just stopped by with a nice batch of freshly cooked brownies just to be polite?

The brother didn't make it, she made it for the brother o_O. Anyways, I'm a christian and the meaning of christmas is the birth of jesus... I don't get why it's more important than easter, the resurrection of jesus... Anyways, I don't like christmas. It's not that fun. It's just like any other day.

Psssht, there is no "true meaning." xD It's either the
cliched "spend time with family" or "better to give than receive" stuff.

I'm making all the presents I'm giving to my family..and cat. lol.. but yeah.. I don't think that's the spirit of christmas.
I believe the real christmas has lost it's meaning through time, and due to the power of the catholic church. They've replaced many holidays with made up ones... The church that is. Not the catholic people. If you don't believe me..Well...Go read some history stuff.

Are you talking about how the church has allegedly assimilated pagan holidays and taken them on as Christian ones in order to kill off old religions?
I've heard something about that but I've never read up on it myself.
Or were you referring to something else?

Ya the church did steal Christmas from the pagans but hay a good idea is a good idea, presents and trees who wouldn't want that?

Personally I think as time has gone on, the holiday is less about church and more about family and friends. Which I think works either way.
I've sort of come to think that maybe Christmas in the old days was to distract people from the fact that it was freaking 30 degrees below, and they didn't have proper heating ^^

@fuyumi_saito: lol I know thats not how it worked in so many words, but in the bigger picture thats pretty much what happened. thats not to say that I'm getting down on the church or anything, but gifts and tree's were part of the old pagan religion.
@Berginyon: lol I never thought of it that way but you make a good point, I can't imagen wanting to celibate in the cold.

- It's the date that Christ was said to have been born. But uh, it's not his real birthday anyway! XD!
Nahh, just joke. My family doesn't really celebrate Christmas, but we do get caught up in the giving of presents thing. So we exchange money/presents with each other sometimes. :O

Actually, "christ" was born in Autumn.
And xmas was originated by pagens.
So really, christ has nothing to do with it. :'D
This has all been scientifically proven.

I think hand made gifts are cool, as long as they are not thrown together at the last moment. Which I am sure that yours are not. However if gifts are made at the last moment, people can end up with some really weird gifts. They make funny stories later on. If the gifts are made from memories, then they are really cool and special to the person who receives them.
